I’m from Carroll High School from ft Wayne Indiana and I must say this was great. Their 2021 show “expansion” might be better though it’s really good. I saw it at BOA in Dayton OH and they won visual, music, and GE and then they won BOA (they’re a well funded school compared to us too)

My HS marching band is playing after Carmel this Saturday at the BOA competition so I went and looked for some of Carmel's performances and holy crap we're gonna be so bad compared to them, especially since we perform right after- this left me speechless, Carmel has such an amazing and talented marching band
Current sophomore baritone From Carmel, And I am Just shell Shocked on How Good this looked. They Killed it. Intro Gave me Goosebumps after hearing What I Play as our intro in Tribute 2020. Completely Amazing.
Who tf decided that 210 bpm was a reasonable tempo for marching band??? Yes, they pulled it off beautifully, but that looked like a marcher's worst nightmare.
James Kaprowski I would say that it’s from 8:04 to the end of the first movement was the most difficult part but I’m sure other people have different opinions.
Colin Harding plus they learn the show in about half the time we have and are normally a thousand times more perfect, but hey, the number look kinda similar right ;)
Zach Zuber while visually they were very clean, to me Carmel’s show is just kind of bland and easy to me. (I’m not trying to put down the crazy amount of work these kids put into their show.) But Vista Ridges performance was phenomenal and so much more enjoyable for me than carmels and in my opinion just better.

Show is clean and crisp with a quality sound but just boring IMO. It seems that’s just the norm these days though. Much more challenging and exciting. This wasn’t their best show either but unfortunately I cannot find the 89 one on TH-cam. That one is the best HS performance I have ever seen. Marching band needs to get back more to its roots. This may be more “artistic” but it’s not as entertaining and the music is not as challenging.

But because marching bands do shows without words, suddenly it seems to give designers carte blanche to be lazy in conveying basic narrative elements. Band show designers need to be reeled in and made accountable for their choices, just like the professional world of entertainment. But somehow they convince students that they don't need to explain the narrative elements, or the progression of action, (sometimes there is none), and students are sheeple who put up with abstractions and capricious design whims.

You try and get production financing in the performing arts and say your production is "up to interpretation"? In television and film? In large scale outdoor rock concerts? Musicals? The producers will laugh you out of the building. Marching arts should be no different. The dramatic action of this show is unclear. The only thing up to interpretation is the designer's resume.

As someone who performed both, I think our semi-final performance 2021 was better than finals, and may have just been as good as 2018

I know Texas bands are very good, but I thought Carmels performance was very good from both a musical and visual standpoint
