Awesome stuff, this is the first video I have watched, love it! What kind of gopro do you use? Currently looking for an option as a beginner diver to document travels, any advice would be appreciated :) Also those hats are so cool
Hi there, thanks for watching our latest video 👍. We use Go pro hero’s currently 9s and 10s with housing, very simple to use. Just take your time and think about what you want to capture, slow movements when filming helps. Enjoy your travels 😊

❤❤❤
Quite good visibility. How can you tell how clear the water will be ? The blacker it is on the surface the clearer it will be. How come? The colour of the water is determined by the amount of light being reflected off particles in the water. The clearer it is the more light, photons, pass down until eventually fully absorbed by the water at depth. If the ocean surface looks black the water at, say 30m will be absolutely clear, visually not there. A good place to dive these conditions is at the Poor Nights in Northland.
It is traditional in New Zealand to call these ‘Crayfish’. However that is incorrect. They are Spiny Lobsters. Crayfish are fresh water and Lobsters salt water. Just saying. I have dived on Walkers Rock in the Marlborough Sounds. You could hardly see rock through the lobsters, what a sight.
Great vid thanks . Living the dream .
Hi there, it’s an amazing place.
They're stunted at growth oh lucky us.
Legends for not showing the location. Nice vid
Cheers...yeah definitely one of those spots that need to be viewed and appreciated. I originally found that spot 20 years ago and it has always had good numbers. I have never removed a bug from that area. Fish for the future. Thanks for watching and the comment.
hello! did you happen to see any squid in there?
Hi no not on this dive but I'm pretty sure they will be there, I've thought about flicking some jigs off the end.
@@DIVELIFENZ ah i see , thats what i was thinking as well. I haven't seen anyone talk about squid fishing in New Plymouth but from the footage from your dive it seems its a great environment for them to live in.
This is not legal in Australia as it is too easy
What a cool video to watch
Great video!
Where do we get merch?
Christmas presents 😊
When is the next trip up north?
Not to sure mate, we kind of just watch the weather and see if it suits with our family's and work and then head up. We are off to the fish and Dive Expo this weekend.
Great video. New to your channel and love the sensible, safe and sustainable way you operate. I love diving for diving sake and really enjoy your mix of good dive footage above and below the surface with a little cray action thrown in. I'm also a seaweed fan as plentiful seaweed with lots of variety usually means a good healthy underwater environment. Keep up the good work boys 👍
Hi, thank you, so glad you enjoyed it, plenty more videos to come. Are you a scuba diver or freediver? We love scuba 👍
@@DIVELIFENZ Born and bred in Taranaki. Love SCUBA and free dive from time to time.
Super cool footage team. Love the vibrant colours below the surface and as Mike said the seaweed with the blue back drop. Well done team keep up the great effort!!
Hi there, love the sea weed 💯, hopefully we’re back in the Coromandel soon 😊
I just free dived into a cave the size of a container and a red tide of small cray flowed out underneath me. The walls of the cave had few cracks but there were cray on every square foot. I've never seen anything like it in 45 years of diving. Last year in june there were three small males in it.
So cool to see crays in large numbers, thanks for sharing your experience. 😊
@@DIVELIFENZ I need to get a waterproof camera. I've been diving for 40 years, it never gets old.
Go pro cameras are what we use, nice and simple, great cameras 👍
@@DIVELIFENZ It's very clear footage. I came down to New Plymouth for a wedding once and paid for a dive out to the marine reserve but I got drunk and hooked up with a bridesmaid and woke up late and the boat didn't wait 🤣.
Great Videos getting better and better
Awesome, loved the no harm vibe, algae shots (native Caulerpa and reds), Sandagger’s wrasse and beautiful cave compositions.
Thanks for the positive comment, love how the sandagger’s gave my mask a peck. Honey combs is a great dive 👍
I live in New Plymouth where is this I want to dive!
Hi, this is in the Tupae marine reserve, this is around seal rock.
Do you still get Sea horses off the Lee breakwater? Used to swim off it as a kid, there was a lot of them.
Hi there, they are still around but can’t say there’s alot, will try and get some footage of them next time 👍 Thanks for the comment hope you enjoyed the video. 😊
Yeah I think the crays drowned
Not a hundred percent sure but it was weird.
@DIVELIFENZ hey bro any chance where you were diving was there packys around or nah? Just curious cause I’ve seen them kill reds before
Hi, didn’t see any on this dive, but a friend pulled a legal one out freediving last summer 👍
I don't eat cray but what does it mean if they have a soft shell
Hi Every year crayfish shed their hard outer exoskeleton except small young crays they shed every 4-6 weeks as they grow larger and out grow their current shell a new exoskeleton is growing underneath and once they shed their old shell the new one is still soft and they are very slow and easy to catch while they wait for the new shell to harden.
Wicked video though mate.. not knocking it at all..
Enjoyed this dive, it’s a great spot. Hopefully get to dive it with better visibility, and get to explore more of the reserve. 😊
I love those seaweed palm trees!!
Me too love the sea weed 👍
You cant eat any of those cray?
Hi there, no you can’t, it’s a marine reserve. Just look and enjoy.
Awesome viz😊
Hi there, not too bad for New Plymouth, got to get out there when the viz is good 👍.
Amazing footage ❤
Land locked Montana US boy. We have crayfish but freshwater are midgets to these 'blokes'. Thanks for taking me along & we could all use a boat buddy sometimes.
Hello thanks for taking the time to comment, we have freshwater crayfish here too, we call them crawlies. Agree having a boat man is super helpful and nice safety wise.
Nice one
Thanks for the comment, can’t wait for the next adventure there. 👍
cant wait for next time when im not broken.
Will be cool to sneak in another trip to Pauanui soon, hopefully you will be all sorted by then. 😀
Look at all those fish!!! 🐠 🐟 🐠
Love scuba, it gives you loads of time to watch and enjoy what’s going on underwater 👍

Soft shell and why you're finding empty shredded shell. Good video 👏 Did my DM there New Plymouth Underwater ❤
Thats some amazing footage!! I bet not many places like that in New Zealand. Keep up the good mahi!!
Thanks for the positive comment 👍, could do with some more reserves to protect our marine live. 😊
Good vid Thanks. Be a good place to get fish gear during the day? Plus clear a bit of nylon line. Sketchy/Gnarly entry and exit - well done .
Hi there, loads of fishing tackle broken off down there, was hard work getting out. Thanks for the comment 👍
🐟🐠
Wow, incredible footage! Great to see so many crays
Thanks, really enjoyed how calm and peaceful the ocean is at night
Awesome video!
Thanks for the comment, would like to dive more locations at night, and see what’s out and about 😊
Its a reseverve thats good there eggs would float an spread across the sea
It’s cool how the larvae drift in the current, and develop for months. 👍
Some great footage there.
Thanks, loved diving there, will be back once the waters clear.👍
I hope you got a feed. How deep were the cray holes and cracks? Some good cray holes around Forster NSW where I live, limit two and you can still find abalone but are only allowed two if not an indiginous person. Thngs were a little bit more liberal back in the 70's and 80"s regarding numbers and many feasts were had. All the best with your videography. @@DIVELIFENZ
Hi there, this location is a reserve, so looking only. 10 to 20 meters deep. It’s my first time seeing such a large number of cray’s . What’s the viz like over there?
Beautiful in the winter when the south west winds blow.. In summer there can be a lot of algae and the wind is more onshore north easters. The rivers also contribute to the clarity of the water so if there has been a lot of rain the water can be dirty..@@DIVELIFENZ
We also have trouble, due to rain, rivers pouring out muddy water reducing visibility, it’s not often that we get crystal viz, so when it comes we make the most of it.👍
such a shame commercial fishing and greed destroys so much that we need reserves.
💯, hopefully we start to learn, thanks for the comment 👍
It looks so amazing
Thanks, it was amazing, hope to be back soon. 👍
That was lovely. Im a Montana USA, landlocked without my Harley. Boats & seawater are long roadtrips just to start, so THANKS for taking me & below. Fat thumb up.
Hi, thanks for the thumbs up, hope to be back out there soon 😊
Me too😢 I'm in Chicago
700+ Miles to the ocean for you, bit of a drive, lucky you have a beautiful lake👍
@@DIVELIFENZ i suppose you refer to the FlatHead & it is beautiful. Mentioned i RIDE, & did accomplish a trans America ride extraordinaire last summer. Maybe next year: the Gulf of Mexico

Great video! Some very pretty shots!
Great footage Mike especially enjoyed the footage of all the fish!
Hi, thanks for the positive feedback. Love capturing all the different makes and models. Will take the time to do more fish footage. 😊👍
what music backsound please
Hi, NEFFEX and Dyalla, they can be found in the TH-cam Studio audio library. Check out our other TH-cam content, more of their music in there. 😊
ruined by the sound track
Sorry about that😊, some people love it and some don’t. Check out Part 2 the music is a lot more tame.👍
