Every watch model has a history! On here, we focus on the more "timeworn" pieces: Few or plenty years old and pre-owned, which makes them all the more precious:
- Unique and probably less-known mechanical wrist watches and brands.
- May they be a few years old, or true (neo-)vintage, but sometimes even contemporary pre-owned watches.
- HISTORY of the brands that form the watch industry at its core
There are plenty of channels featuring the most hyped watches out there over and over again.
Let's have a look at a different way of collecting and enjoying watches.

Aftermarket Parts on a SEIKO POGUE & How to spot them!
มุมมอง 17Kปีที่แล้ว
My POGUE (SEIKO 6139-6002) taught me a valuable lesson. A lesson about aftermarket parts, but also that you can enjoy a watch even after finding out that it is not as original down to the last piece as one possibly (and foolishly) expected it to be after doing some superficial research. With SEIKO watches, the devil can be within the details. Nonetheless, I think it is very important to make an...

Great value. I also value your reviews. For example I recently sold an Oris BC Divers Regulator (the original divers regulator) with a link to your well researched review on that watch. The seller knew he was getting something special and I achieved the elevated value it deserved. Sellers would do well to include a link to your reviews. Thank you for this and keep them coming!
Thank you! That sounds amazing ! I am very happy if my videos can be of service to the community. Hope you don't miss that Regulator ? 😅 I should probably let go of a watch once in a while to keep the collection alive
I have always had the normal concentric handed brother in my collection. It too has the fully fitted /contoured stainless bracelet. Same aesthetics but easier to read day and night. I miss the novelty and rarity of the regulator for sure.
Love the lumed indexes. Very unique, which is hard to do.
Thanks man! Your feedback is always appreciated! It is an odd watch at first glance, but I cherish it for that very reason.
Sadly, it's part of the hobby and I have fallen to the fakes. C'est le vie. I have the blck dial 73 American Pogue which needs a service and serious TLC. Still love it and feel like a kid on Christmas Eve. Cheers 🙏
After tripping over the aftermarket parts involuntarily as well, I've made a hobby out of spotting the aftermarket parts on interesting listings and for anyone who cares, for example a friend of mine was interested in the Seiko "Sunrise" from 72, which is quite rare and therefore easily riddled with aftermarket parts as well. He went ahead with that model anyway, since he just enjoyed the aesthetics and the original movement inside. I think there is a lot of enjoyment to be had with these Seikos! Thank you for your comment! Cheers!
I have for couple years almost Pogue as I like to call 6002 model. It now needs servicing, since bezel is missing and glass had to be replaced. Everything else is in perfect combination with some scratches on the case. I was thinking of refinishing the case but can’t decide if it would be a good idea.
It's your watch, so if you dislike the state of your case, prefer a newer look and trust the person refinishing it, you can go for it. I personally never buffed out scratches, that I made myself as I consider them as part If the journey! Enjoy your Pogue 🙌
@ thanks, I really appreciate comment. Even with scratches case is in the good shape, so maybe I can just replace o rings, crystal and put aftermarket bezel, since that’s only one I have. This way I can put original bezel and crystal if sometime I found it and will be all original. Thanks a lot for this video and for returning me to the right path.
@stevan367 thank you! I think many will enjoy your comment/path as well!
This si the true Jedi!!
I personally agree 🙌
Thank you very much for sharing this video. I trusted the person I bought my Pogue from on a handshake. You helped me verify his integrity, along with other peer references ofc. Very informative video ❤
Love to hear that I could provide some value to your collecting journey 🙌 Also glad your Pogue is what you wanted it to be!
Hi Sir 👋🏻. As you have said, the inner bezel can be swapped? I bought one which don’t have it but I found one junk for spare parts. Can it be done? 🙏🏻 Just swapping the inert bezel?
Hi! The inner black bezel with white font is directly printed/decaled on the mineral glass. Therefore you'd need to switch out the crystal! Is it intact ob your junk piece?
I have two of them (blue and yellow) 100% aftermarketed by myself, love and enjoy both of them.
The Cevert is in my list as well. From my experience, I'd probably go for a good deal on a nice aftermarket one. Cool having both!
Watches are so delicate and intricately designed, so I have intense respect and admiration for MAMACOO watch makers
Hey ! How are you ? I have an one for 3 years with the original strap but before i buy it the owner scratched all numbers of the cercle's of steel bezel watch outside ,i don't know why he did that , and in these 3 years im looking for solutions to how printed it ?
I am sorry, that is a tough position. The bezel is something which I've Not seen as a replacement part (LCD Panel, glass with decals can be found in eBay). Printing it yourself could be possible, but unfortinately I know nothing about printing stickers. But you can probably pull the design from the untouched bezel from one of the pictures online and use it as a template?
@@TiMEworn thank you thats what im thinking
@morokko5stars68 my bezel ain't perfect, but I can try to get a good shot straight from above for you, if there are no proper pictures of it online! Just let me know. Good luck with your Surfingtimer!
that's very nice from you, sir i appreciate it ,from please because it's difficult to find a good picture for printing it. Take your time plz thank you sir
Who cares!! It looks like a Pogue and so long as it keeps time why worry? Wear it and enjoy Myself after wearing mine for forty years and giving it a hard time, I had hardly any numbers left on the bezel, so an aftermarket insert makes it look fine (I still have the original bezel if needed). The spring barrel arbor holes were closed up and re-reamed. Watch keeps smack on time and although I live in Adelaide and can get to V.T.A. if needed, who is only about 20 kms away as yet the watch is keeping great time. Enjoy
Forty years! Great wrist companion. Makes even more sense to accept aftermarket parts, if you wore it so much that the bezel faded completely! I am now very much convinced that this IS my Pogue, despite any aftermarket parts 👍 Love it a lot
This is the best documentary on the Pogue on YT .
Thank you! That's a label I'll gladly display 👍
nice one i still have my casio from 1984
Which one do you have? Owning a Casio for 40 years is awesome!

Boa matéria parabéns esse relogio relíquia tenho um
Thanks mate! When did you get yours? Ever changed the crystal on it?
Ah yes. Casio. Plastic watches & G Shock. That’s all. No Edifice, Lineage or Oceanus. Nothing but endearing budget stuff & G Shock. 👍 😜
Didn't mean to be too harsh on G-Shocks, but those are the ones that seemingly get shoved down my YT feed the most😅 those compared better to the the Surfing Timer than Edifice etc. But it is true that Casio is more than the obviously hyped lines
@@TiMEworn Be as hard as you like on G Shocks. 1. I don’t really care and 2. They can take it! 😜 My point was more to poke fun at how the other lines rarely if ever get a look in. It’s your F91W types & Shocks only. Put some respec on Oceanus name! 😜😜
@@hibernopithecus7500 Definitely! I'll keep going, one odd watch line at a time 😃
Thank you for the very nice introduction! Very nice watch with much character!
Thanks for the compliment 🙌 it hit me by surprise and i'm glad if you enjoyed getting to know it as well!
Casio should make a re edition
Would love to see that! Just going all out on colorful displays, but keeping the metal bezel. Maybe even a metal case 🤔
@@TiMEworn it should be solar so that we don't have to change battery 🔋🙋🇩🇪
@guidine7 Good idea! Given the vintage prices, they could stuff it full of functionality and still come out cheaper 😅
Super funky model.
Exactly my thoughts! Thanks!
Unique perspective and the confidence to share your thoughts, Bravo. The jewel count catch very good. I always wanted you to open the Zenith Movado Astronic and count the jewels and compare to the Zenith Espada to see if they actual did reduce the Astronic jewel count to meet the jewel maximum to be compliant with restrict USA tariff. Thought?
Thank you for the support! About the Astronic: Even if I could open the watch, counting all jewels would make a disassembly necessary and noone wants me to do that... well at least the owner wouldn't :D But Movado is very transparent and always displayed the correct amount of jewels on the rotor, no shenanigans there. Others have already proven the fact that they indeed reduced the count to 17 jewels for tariff reasons! Again thanks!
The second hand is too far away from the chapter ring..the original is so close it’s almost touching.
True! I've seen fake Geoscopes with even shorter seconds hands. It was deceivingly close to the original length on the one in the video (good eye!) though.
Beautiful watch!
Thanks! Awesome avatar btw 👍
Great video, thank you. Only thing more beautiful than the movement is that stunning dial. Am curious what happened to venus: who owns it, or at least the rights to the name, equipment for manufacturing , or did it just get swallowed up and renamed (like Minerva).
Thanks, great question! VENUS (or Fabrique d’Ébauches Vénus) became part of the Ebauches SA (much later: ETA) already in 1928 and as the consolidation of many brands went on, this move secured the brand, but the VENUS movements gradually disappeared, mainly replaced by Valjoux (also part of the Ebauches SA) in the 70s. This constant evolution can be seen when comparing for example the VENUS 188 with the Valjoux 7733, as some similiarities could still be found and some of these Valjoux movements were reportedly produced at a former Venus factory in Moutier as well. Last mentions therefore came up until 1982 and Venus was only manufacturing specific parts (pinions etc. under the ETA roof), but most manufacturing tools were already sold in the Seventies to Russia (Poljot) and China.
@@TiMEwornGreat info, thanks so much🙂👍.
Great video. The fit and finish of that watch is not even in the same universe as an authentic Edox. The way it has worn also shows the total lack of quality in both materials and finish. It has worn like a very cheap watch. The colors on the outer wheels aren’t even close, as you’ve shown. It screams $100 watch. Thank you for making this. Cheers
Thanks! Once you know a few signs, the whole facade comes crashing down with this watch. Even more so if you handled one, the fake (and especially its inner bezel) just looks and feels cheap, as you mentioned! Still it can be deceptive and I think the worst part is that it just doesn't work like the original (wrong speed of revolution of the world map). Luckily, my friend was able to return the watch in the end, as the evidence was so obvious! Appreciate your comment! Cheers!
Oh good! As that was my next question. Hoping that reputable dealer mentioned did the right thing! Another great example of why we deal with the best sources, whenever possible. Yes that lack of true 24 hour function was really the clincher! Simply no arguing with that. Very well done.
If I was going to consider owning one of these.. I would want it to look new and the aftermarket parts would not bother me.. the lume would need to be good wherever it is applied. I've seen fully aftermarket offering ranging from $700 to $2000 but who could deny such a fine looking timepiece in their collection
That's a healthy approach in my opinion. There are good options out there, but I would personally not go beyond the 1000€ mark for an aftermarket dial one. That's a range where you can already get good original vintage SEIKOS from reputable dealers (maybe not pristine). Hope you find yours! Cheers
I just bought an oval one from the flea market. But I've just realized it's missing the logo at the center, instead the previous owner slapped on a small sticker with a printed logo on it over the glass (which only covers half of it). At this point I'm not sure if the crystal is original, I didn't think it'd be possible for the logo to be missing in any way if it was indeed printed on the underside of the glass. I tried searching if there was any Astrographic without a logo at the center, but I only found one on eBay. I'm tempted to either rip off the sticker or make a new one altogether, it seems tempting to have it as a protective film over the entire glass. 😂
Probably a repair solution glass in the correct shape. I would probably also keep the glass (would be a bit of a waste to replace it just because the decal is missing on the underside. If you have a capable and willing watchmaker you could add your own sticker to the underside or just make a fitting one for the top! Probably noone will notice if it covers the stem ! Finding the original glass now is near impossible. Cool watch anyway !! Enjoy!
@@TiMEworn It's impossible to find the correct glass in the right size. I have a feeling a custom-made one will cost more than what I paid for the watch. I've since found a few more Zodiacs with no logo, so I'm wondering if they really came like that or maybe instead of a decal, it's a disc that fell off somehow. You're right though if there's a new fitting sticker no one will notice. 😂
@karatn I've never seen catalogue pictures without the sticker, but who knows! I am with you, just find or make a good sticker and enjoy! The floating red dot gets all the attention anyways 😄
I for one am glad that well made pattern parts are so readily available. Original dials and hands at this age are likely to be a faded crumbling mess, and are no longer available from the factory. These parts allow us to bring our watches back to their former glory. If you were restoring a vintage car, you'd most likely be using non genuine after market body parts, trim and panels etc, so I really don't understand why watch enthusiasts get so precious about this.
I am with you. Better to have aftermarket parts than throw away a good watch! That said, looking for your first POGUE is a bit of a minefield if you do not know the telltale signs, since most sellers will not accurately point out the aftermarket parts beforehand. My Pogue is very much enjoyable for me, but the friend that sold it to me was also fully convinced that he has an all-original time capsule, which just happened to be pristine. He was a bit shocked to learn that it was _not_ all original.
1st gen had horrible accuracy.
I think the 7S26 was not known for high accuracy from the start (so I agree) and it is only ticking at 21,600Aph, but it is robust. Just checked mine, which took a beating since its last service 7 years ago (!) and I can confirm that it is behind 27seconds/day.
Mine doesn’t match any gen … but the first gen is the closest looking one.
Sounds interesting! What distinguishes it from a First Gen then?

Oh well, just thought I’d ask. We need a book on forgotten and lasser known brands. But a big thanks for what you are doing anyway. Ken.
@@KenSinclair-pn6xt I would put that book on my coffee table straight away as well :D A book that I personally want is: "Retro watches: The modern collector's guide", which focusses not on unknown brands, but wild designs from the past. Hi,just got to your page and very happy to do so to see watches we have not seen or forgotten well done 😊. Ken from England.
Thank you! Glad to have you here! I starten TH-cam because the watches I liked were underrepresented and I wanted to show this side of watch collecting too!
What's a 'wersion'?
I guess you refer to my pronounciation of "version" (admittedly with a German accent)?
My dad bought his in the Navy stationed in Diego Garcia/Indian Ocean during Vietnam. One of the military service catalogs I believe. He dove with it and wore it for years after before giving to to me. Had it serviced a couple of years ago and I still wear it nearly every day. Love all the scratches and wear on the glass and dial he left on it. Will never restore any of it.
What an heirloom! Hope it accompanies you many more years 👍 thanks for telling your Pogue story!
Brilliantly informative video mate. Really helpful for people with what to look for. However, I dont think its bad to own a watch with aftermarket parts. Many 6139's these days look horrendously mouldy, aged & crap after decades of aging. No one turns their nose up at a modded SKX. I personally had to upgrade mine to an NH36 for example after the 7s26 movement died. I then threw a sapphire crystal on as well. This is commonplace, so im not sure why pogue fans get so critical about pogues that have been restored & upgraded from looking like trash to like new again for a new owner. That being said, once you know what to look for, a decent all original specimen can be found. I recently picked up an all original blue variant. But I wouldn't be adverse to upgrading say the crystal if it got really scratched. Upgrading a seiko to prolong its life isnt a bad thing imo.
Thank you! It's true, I think the Pogue "suffers" from that historic relevance a bit there. Since there is a "true" Pogue out there, it means that you have a watch close to that and original or you don't. It doesn't make it any less silly, I know, but that's just some attempt at reasoning, why it's a thing with (yellow) Pogues. But I agree that a modern, modded or restored version aren't any less cool in my book at this point!
what is wintage?
That's a very good question! Everyone has their own definition give or take 10 years at least. For me and now (mid 2020s), I would consider everything before the 1985 as vintage and everything older than 20 years as neo-vintage. But I am not very strict on that definition myself, I must admit. What's your take?
@@TiMEworn over 30 years old and over $500 at the same time

@@TiMEworn there should be a line between vintage and old garbage
@consumidorbrasileiro222 ouch 😄 as you can imagine, I strongly disagree! A 200$ well preserved Oberon or Seiko etc is as worthy of the vintage label to me as any pricier piece

They are just best for stainless steel Astros. That's why I'm a bit jealous that the only wide TV case with silver dial I've seen for sale is not mine now 😬
@AntoshaGorelov sorry 😅 but matching round ones sounds great for a couple 👍 always a good idea to get the spouse hooked as well 😆
For under a Hundred Dollars Invicta makes a good Jump hour watch with an NH 35 Automatic movement
Not too shabby indeed! I did not expect that from modern Invicta to be frank. Classical design as well. Flew under my radar!
@@TiMEworn You're Welcome
Didn't even know pin pallet movements are serviceable. They were made to be pretty much throw aways
Maybe "servicing" is an exaggeration, but cleaning an re-oiling can help. But they will never be that accurate, I guess and if something's broken it's probably more cost-efficient to just scrap the movement (If a spare is available) 😅
@@TiMEworn Well at least the quality of the movement matches that of the case! I'm not sure if I'd personally spend more than $50 on a disposable watch, even if it's vintage 😀
OK, but I think it's condition is quite surprising for 60+ years and definitely a worthy proposition. But could be that I just have one too many screws loose in that regard 😄
@@TiMEworn Definitely with watches we should all buy what we like. This watch does have an attractive dial, not to mention the digital jump hour is of interest. (I also like the fact it has a date, which a lot of alternatives do not)
@MegaThucydides It stood out to me immediately among the more "digital" looking ones (couldn't decide on one of those yet). The date was a strong pull for me too! Cheers!
Nice
Thanks!
I really like jump-hour watches, and I love the design of the LIP watch that appears briefly at 1:30. But the Oberon you're showcasing here is really tasteful and elegant. I haven't been lucky in my searches, though. The majority I encounter in the used market are broken, and those that aren't broken are offered at prices that are definitely outside my budget. The cheating about the jewels' number made me smile. I own a nice Kienzle watch from the 1960s that modestly proclaims "7 jewels" on its dial, but remains astonishingly precise even after so many years since the last check-up! 🙂 Great to watch another video from you. Keep up the good work! Cheers, //Rick
Hi Rick and thanks! That's the LIP Baschmakoff, I like those very much as well, but unfortunately, those are a bit more expensive. For these odd ones I have my sights on local markets. There is an ebay for local purchases (only private sellers) in Germany, which is a trove for attic finds (but also risky). Ah a good Kienzle! Which one do you have? I was hunting for a Kienzle 2002 Life a year back 😄 I believe we might have similar tastes! Those are quite robust. Great to hear from you as well, thanks for adding such valuable comments!
@@TiMEworn I replied to you earlier, adding a link to a picture of my Kienzle watch, but it seems TH-cam has removed my comment entirely, as it does not appear here. If you like, I can send it to you via email at the address you provide in the About section of your channel. Cheers! //Rick
Yes unfortunately I never saw that message/link. I guess YT is quite strict about external links. Would enjoy having a look at it via email! Thanks and cheers! - Jan
That's a good looking 50s (?) watch! Nice bracelet too! Probably a smaller size?
Unique and original design❤.....i hope they make again that style
Probably new versions will look more modern, but who knows! For the time being it's probably easier to find a cheap vintage one in suitable condition. Thanks and Cheers!
Invicta Makes a legitimate jump hour with an NH35 Automatic Movement for under one hundred dollars!
@@TiMEworn Modern? We are in the midst of a Homage mania. every company in every price range are coming out with watches resembling those in their back catalogues! originality is a thing of the past( pun not intended) Have you seen the Invicta Jump hour?
Yes, revivals run rampant, but aside the Invicta (which I admittedly did not know about) most brands added some modern touch to it, like the brands I mentioned in the video (Fears, CHRONOSWISS, Reservoir etc)
@@TiMEworn it's a few keys away to take a look at the Invicta Jump Hour. Why exactly do you choose not to look at it?
I first encountered Bell & Ross in the late 90s. This 'classical' military/pilot style chronograph has always been on my radar ever since I saw it, in the 2000s. Thanks for the review.
Felt a little pang reading that, since this is one of two watches I ever sold... It is a beautiful watch indeed! 👍 Glad you enjoyed the video!
what a beautiful watch !!
Thank you !!
Thanks, that was very well done. I must admit to not knowing much about that series of movements. Im lucky to have found a virtually new Heuer Skipper many years ago...what a great watch!
Thank you! Glad to hear you enjoyed the video. Wow, a Heuer Skipper is probably the best BigEye and Valjoux 7734 watch to have (in my eyes)!
There is a spring misssing from your reset lever
Well spotted! The watch was in service last year, since the chrono was acting up (probably exacty what you spotted) and it also got a new crown (the old one was only plated and quite worn down)! Works like a charm now 👍
Thanku ❤🎉
Much obliged 😄👍
Beautiful watch with a special history. I like ..and just bought the automatic version 👍
I rarely get comments on my watches in real life, but when it happens, it's mostly this one 😃
Thank you, very helpful.
Much appreciated!
I own a pogue which was my fathers. Of course I changed the dial and inner ring as they were almost destroyed. I don’t mind if they are not the original parts
Legacy lives on, that's the important bit! Love to hear the heirloom stories. That's what I look for with my own kid 👍
