@ 5:00 the 'back flap' is called a mantel, and it should cover shoulders too, but some tailors incorporate it into upper seam, so youre ..ok.

As a hobbyist woodworker who almost never uses paint or even wood stain (I like the way most woods look on their own), do what you like; don't let others bully you. Woodworkers have a tendency to gatekeep and be bit snobby. Ultimately the best tool for the job is the one you have which can do the job safely, accurately, and meet the needs of the design. Whether it is watered down paint, stain, or Rubio Monocoat, use what you like. Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now. Good job by the way, I might copy your design for myself.

So firstly, this is awesome. Secondly, for your dry specimen, which I love, go check out “Crafsman SteadyCraftin” (yes it’s spelled right). He has a video called “how to make realistic, fleshy (gross) polymer clay creatures” His painting techniques that he does to his frigates in this video would look AMAZING on you dry specimen! Rock on!

The moment you said "white spirits" I knew you were a damn genius. I've used it to make silicone molds bigger or smaller but never even thought about using it this way, on the actual piece. That's freakin brilliant.

What sells the “dry specimen” for me is the larger, longer segment partway down the body length- reminiscent of common earthworm anatomy. Attention to detail matters, and you nailed it.
