Toyota Land Cruiser HVAC Door Repair How To
This is a how to video off how to install Nate’s HVAC door repair kit. Link to buy at bottom:
What:
This is a replacement recirculation door actuator arm for the HVAC system on a 200 series Land Cruiser or LX 570. Please refer to the video linked below for install instructions.
Why:
The factory HVAC recirculation door is easily broken if the proper cabin air filter replacement procedure is not followed. This is a permanent fix to that problem. If you are experiencing problems with fogging windows in your Land Cruiser or LX570, this is likely the culprit.
Toyota only sells the full housing which costs around $400-$500 and requires a full dash removal for replacement.
Fitment:
This is confirmed to fit the 2013+ USDM vehicle (including LX). Message me to 2008-2011 US model fitment. A different part is required for Global RHD models, contact me directly regarding fitment.

Great product and tutorial. I just did this on a 2017 that has the warning label, some jamoke still broke it.
Hi where can I find this part
There's a link in the video description.
Doing the install today! Btw which seat covers are those?!
Hi, they are Escape Gear Covers! They are excellent, and have protected my seats well against my Shepherds.
Awesome!!!!!! Like everyone, it was an $1800 Toyota repair. $45 part and 45 minutes (I'm slow) and works like a charm. And I'm a total amateur. The video was spot on. Thanks so much!!!!
Great to hear!
This is an amazing fix. I just received a quote for $2,600 to fix. 12 hours of labor including $290 in parts. its a great auto shop just not for this job. Nate, I see you are in Colorado. I live outside Boulder. Have you ever considered doing the full repair besides selling the part or have someone you recommend?
Thanks Robert! Message me through the Etsy store and let's discuss.
The LC250 sounds sooooo cheap!
Hi Nate, I just installed the fix I received from you. Quick question, when I switch to the fresh air mode there is a tiny gap between the door and the air filter. I see yours doesn't have any gap. Mine is a 2014 model year. Thanks!
Hi! Can you send me a photo of the gap through Etsy?
Is there any way Etsy can ship to saudi arabia ?
Yes! I’ve added SA to the approved shipping locations. You should be able to place an order normally now.
6 years later and I will benefit from it, thanks bruv!
Happy to help!
Similar. At first I thought the gx was a bit f150 sounds (weak, cheap).
Just discovered this issue today while troubleshooting water getting in through the cabing air filter area. Thank you so much for this.
You're welcome!
Dude. You are the man… I’ve been wondering why my “new to me” 2016 LC has had window fogging issues… after watching your video, I checked my recirculation flap and this is exactly what the issue is. Just ordered my part from you. Thanks for the solution and help in this video.
Glad to help!
Really helpful. Thanks!
Glad to help!
This is also an issue with 07-15 LS460/600 sedans.
That's good to know!
Hi, How can I order this part that you have made and get it to Australia?
Hi Pamela, I regularly ship to AU; check out the link to Etsy above in the video description.
Here's the link: onengineering.etsy.com/listing/1306596850/land-cruiser-hvac-recirculation-door-fix
I just did this repair in my 2020 Land Cruiser 200. I couldn’t figure out why my windows fogged up all the time. This seems like a common issue with Toyota and Lexus recirculating flappers. Installation took me about 90 mins but just because I really took my time.
Thanks Michael!
Hi Nate. It’s Peter from Perth Western Australia. I recently bought your fix and have installed it this weekend. First let me say I was impressed with the quality of the part it fitted together perfectly with the right amount of friction to hold it together. Fitting was a big challenge. After removing the glove box as per your instructions. I removed the redundant connector piece on the outside of the corrugated door and found that the actuator arm came off as well. This was an unmitigated disaster 4 hours later after removing more bolts and nuts to gain about half inch more clearance but was still unable to reseat the actuator arm in it’s correct location. I gave up and retired to a glass of red. Next morning I decided there was a better way and took the decision to carefully cut an access hole to better locate the end of the actuator arm. This made refitting much easier as I could use an end if of a felt tip pen to hold the lug in place as I rotated the arm. The rest was as per your instructions and worked fine. All working and buttoned up. In short a pain to install because of the actuator arm coming off but your bits appear to be working great. Happy to share photos if anyone is interested
Looking at your video Nate I did not see a computer module with lots of plugs to the right of the blower housing. On the right hand drive 2014 model in Australia has this module severely restricts access. I did not disconnect battery or module as I wasn’t sure if this requires any dealer input. In the end I made room by undoing as many fixings as possible and moving the computer module and blower housing apart by about half an inch which helped.
@@peterknox3950 Glad you were able to get the part installed! A link to photos would be great!
@@TulsaMtnBiker apologies for the delay I need to upload and this is an IT challenge. Watch this space
At 11:55, my 2009 LC doesn’t have auto-wipers so I didn’t have that module. I DO have the DVD player which fits in the upper right corner of this space. It is easily removable with 2x 10mm/Phillips screws and a 10mm nut in the upper right. As it turned out, my arm wasn’t broken. The servo arm had just popped out. Once I popped it back in, I was all good to go. Thanks Nate for making this great video and the work put into the replacement arm!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much! Just finished the install and it’s working again! I might have flipped the inside arm, but it seems to work just as well.
Glad to help!
I just wanted to add, for anyone doing this on a 2016+ LX 570, there is an ECU module in the way. Unhook your battery, unplug the necessary plugs/bolts and move it to the side. Installation is near impossible without this step. Thanks.
Good info, thanks for posting!
any videos or step by step photos for the LX? I've got a 2013... i notice the door jam and center side panel is different than the LC.
Thanks Nate recieved my parts today and fitted to my rh drive 2021 land cruiser and works a treat ,i used the 6 degree part and that matched the original .
Thanks so much for the feedback! Glad to help.
Thanks Nate, this worked like a charm on my dealer serviced 2019. Total time maybe 45 min. Hardest part for me was removing old arm but after that was a breeze. Now have defrost that works great.
Glad to help!
Nate, quick question. Any reason my rain sensing wipers would not work after unplugging them and re-plugging back in? They now work like a standard intermittent wiper as you described in the video as if they were not plugged back in. They worked fine just 2 days before so curious if there is a setting or resetting that needs to happen. Thanks in advance.
Nevermind, took it all back apart and it was not fully seeded. All good sorry
Can i get one in Australia?
Messaged you!
2014. Door doesn’t seem to want to close all the way. Any tips?
Messaged you!
Bought the kit but when I took apart everything it looks like my flexible motor arm just popped out of the door arm. Nothing broken. Just bent it back into the arm and everything works great. Guess I’ll hang onto the new pieces just in case something happens down the line. Or if I ever come across another cruiser owner that has the problem. Thanks!!
The same thing happened to me, but without stripping things apart, I just pushed the gate a little hard, and it just worked ! Now I have this problem with the servo motors controlling the direction of the air flow😅
Excellent! Thank you! Just ordered my part! Part is going in my 2015 LC in Mechanicsburg, PA!
Glad I could help!
Great tips and video! Please in future videos do not use any music - it makes it very hard to discern what you are saying. Thanks again!
Hi Nate. Is this part compatible with 2009 LC?
Hi! There is a very good chance this will fit the 2008-2011 USDM model range. I have had a few people purchase this for the model range, including a 2009, and not heard of any issues to date.
Just installed this part on a 2021 heritage edition. We have only had it serviced at toyota and of course, they broke the door. For me the removal of the glovebox was straight forward, except for dropping a bolt down the other side of the carpet liner. Took a flexible magnet to get it out.The only difference I could see was my windshield wipper plug was located a little differently. It took me a while to get the new parts in the correct position. The actuator arm is tucked back in there and it was tough for me to get it flexed to to mate to the new part. Reassemble went smooth. Thank you Nate. Solid design to solve a big issue for us.
Glad to help!

Just made my first ever Etsy purchase. Thanks Nate.... for the engineering and the spot on video. Will go on my LX570 in Tucson
Nate, did you ever discover if your fix works for the 2008-2011 200-series LC's? I have an '09 and about to dive in and can send you pics of what i find if you haven't confirmed that yet... BTW, I'm on mud as firepuppy; searched there for this fix without success before turning to youtube; have you posted anything related to this there?
Please report with your findings on if this video fix will work on 08-11's!
Missed your comment! There is a very good chance this will fit the 2008-2011 USDM model range. I have had a few people purchase this for the model range and not heard of any issues to date.
@@TulsaMtnBiker I agree that there's a good chance your fix will fit; I just think after a LOT of research while fixing mine that something changed in 2012 to cause MANY more cracked door failures; most of the people with 2008-2011 models had some other point of failure (stripped gears (mine..), arm popped out without breaking the door, etc.). Thanks for the reply.
Hi Nate, Is this kit compatible with 2013 LX 570?
Late reply, but for the broader audience, yes it is compatible!

Vincent, I misread your comment earlier. I'm out in CO so a bit far away. I'd suggest removing the cabin access panel in your glove box and confirming if the recirculation door/flap is operating when you press the Recirc button. Do NOT move the flap by hand!
Nate, do you have those parts for sale?

Are the 2020/2021 LC third row seats still manual or have they adopted the LX power seats?
