    Hi, I really liked your apartment! I am a prospective Ph.D. student at NYU, and I am considering the living conditions there. Could I ask how much your apartment cost and which area it is located in? Thank you so much!

      @annam5733 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! I lived right by campus, on 5th ave! I paid $2200 for rent; however, I signed my lease at the absolute trough of the pandemic prices and, obviously, prices have skyrocketed since then. When management sent the lease renewal prices it was $3600 and I'm sure it's gone up since then. Jersey City/Hoboken and Brooklyn were really popular for NYU grad students, but if you want a manhattan apartment I recommend looking in UES or UWS. It's pricey but I LOVED nyu and I miss it every day

    It's a nice place and a good start. There is lots of potential. As far as the box is concerned maybe a big scarf or table cloth, or cozy shawl could be draped over it. I love the tapestry behind the bed.

    Another idea for your TV box: Cover with contact paper of your choice fitting your decor- it will look like a built-in on the wall- turn the box so the open end is easily accessible and use for storage for large flat items, etc.. Can also drape box with material if contact paper is not an option. You can probably store fold-up chairs in there or folding tables, canvases, pictures, etc.

    If that box doesn't fit under the bed. Wrap it in some wrapping paper or fabric and hang it on the wall like it's a work of art above the place in the floor that it's sitting.

    Have you ever experienced any paranormal activity in this apartment? The reason I ask is because of the mark on your moms mirror, the camera malfunction, and Alexa doing her own thing.

    • @annam5733
      @annam5733 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh interesting! I haven’t in this apartment but I definitely did in 2 apts I lived in during undergrad and as a kid I thought my parents house was haunted (still do). The mark on the mirror is from my fingers when I was trying to figure out the perma-dust situation earlier that day. But this building is pre-war and has hundreds of residents at a time so paranormal presence is definitely possible

    TV box: Cover it with a graphic contact paper and put it behind the TV against the wall. Hide all the cords and cables in the box itself by snaking them thru the bottom flaps. It’ll muffle the sound and improve the acoustics as well.

    Is it true NYC is a cesspool?

    • @annam5733
      @annam5733 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah, the media makes is sound exponentially worse than it is. It’s true I’ve noticed a larger half-way house/homeless population in my area compared to the 2010s, but it’s a cyclical trend. Every hotspot tends to die off after a while and they’ll start to congregate in a different area. Most of them keep to themselves anyways

    Absolutely agree on purchasing; but not throwing out, the TV shipping/moving box. Well, worth the extra (1 time) expense. Do you have an extra afghan, colored sheet or blanket? Leave plane or put your stuffed animal on top. Fake plant(s). Purse display (like art). Nothing that you don't already have or couldn't use again in another place (fake plants). Can't really get the box wet. I feel you on the box!.

    • @annam5733
      @annam5733 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Omg that’s the program I’m in!! NYU is very international student friendly and tbh don’t think there’s a significant difference in what they’re looking for in international student applications versus domestic. What I can tell you is that your essays need to be incredible so have at least one person with strong formal writing skills proofread! Honestly start writing or outlining your essays now if you haven’t already. Research experience in some form is huge for this program, so get experience you can put on your resume and incorporate into your essays. Feel free to dm me on insta if you have any more questions, I’m happy to chat with you: @annnnamart

    What kind of work do you do? I am trying to rent a $1100/month studio and it isn't nearly as pretty, and it is 25 mins from the city, but I know I will need to look for some better work and I'm only just waitressing and going to school. Are you trying to save for a home or are you happy renting and what kind of work do you do to afford such a gem in new york, if you don't mind the question?

    • @annam5733
      @annam5733 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! I'm a student so I'm relying on loans and then I also nanny part-time to make money for food, MTA fare, etc. The only way I was able to get this apartment is because my parent signed as my guarantor even though I pay for it. I also signed at the peak of the low prices in the covid market crisis so prices are back up since then. TBH I wouldn't spend more than $1000 to live outside the city, that's overpriced. You can find great places in Manhattan in Kips Bay, Murray Hill, Upper East Side (the far east side or the north side), East Village, and FiDi in the $1000-range. Get a roommate and you can pay less than $1000 in manhattan for a decent place. I recommend living in the city because as a waitress you'll make WAY more $$$ here, plus if you live outside of the city then the daily commute will add up and you likely won't have saved much money. Also, from a safety perspective, please don't take the subway late at night alone after a shift. I have friends who have been attacked and followed in the last year, so please find a safe apartment in the city and embrace CitiBikes or walking lol
