Is this online recovery program scamming addicts?
มุมมอง 1842 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I discuss how I think this particular online recovery program is scamming people by charging a lot of money for content that you can find for free. They also claim that 90% of people are successful which sounds like absolute bullshit! Our Fellowship has been permitted to achieve-though still in miniature-the “one world” dream of philosophers. Ours is a world in which we can hotly differ, yet never think of schism or conflict as a solution. As a fellowship, we ask nothing of wealth or power. As we better use “the language of the heart,” our communications grow apace: Already, we find ourselves in safe passage through all those barriers of distance and language, of social distinction, nationality, and creed, that so divide the world of our times.

    I don't completely blame myself for everything that had me doing alcohol and illicit drugs, but l certainly don't leave myself out of the equation either. I as a new comer, couldn't seem to adapt to A A/N A meetings. The environment was often unsafe because l had a decent education, and could understand real easy, what l read or was hearing others share at meetings. To get to the bottom of what precisely caused me to drink and use drugs, l applied to Holistic approach to recovery. I looked at people, places and things around me, including family, but l mostly looked at my own behavior. I did this Spiritually, Mentally, Emotionally and Physically. I was able to see how my thinking and my feelings played a major role in my drinking and drug use. When l changed the two of them, that led to change in the other two. In 9 years, l went from being a member of A A/N A to becoming a therapist myself after going back to school. I now have 14 years of clean time under my belt, and I'm getting sober everyday. I'm functionally deaf in both ears, as a result of alcoholism, but it hasn't stopped me from getting three different degrees in school, after being a dropout with just a 9th grade education. Emotional Sobriety open the door up for me to see how l was letting the substances back into my life by the way I Thought and Felt.

      @@gods_cocaine7985 Many groups that meet solely online have come up with a some type of system for "signing" a paper. Even if you went to a meeting in person, you'd bring in a paper to be signed and whatever random member has the job to sign the paper will sign the paper. When I chaired an online meeting during Covid, I'd "sign" the paper by sending an email that said "This person attending the NA meeting online at this date" to whatever email they asked. I'm sure there are lots of different ways groups do it now a days. I'll be honest with you, the papers do not matter nearly as much as attending. Judges in drug court have a lot of experience and I am certain they will be able to know if you attended by asking you some general questions regardless of how many signatures you have. Thought they were no way like me! Who offers a hug to a Crack head thief like myself. Thought they really were full of BS. Dressed to nice had to be a safe haven for mostly the area drug dealers. And offered me coffee lol, which at moment was a brain washing substance for these people to be under there control. Looking back with a clear mind 2 weeks away from a new mile stone 3 years clean. I was Blessed they planted a mustard seed, that for me at least was able to keep coming back with multiple almost death as an outcome relapses! My opinion is that newcomers need to be greeted and treated with respect. They may or may not feel they have a problem with drugs like I Did. Claiming na is bullshit in the description to further the agenda of na is kind of the cult like behavior that I hate about the program. Along with other things I used to try and have a great respect for the program but after a while I have caught onto either the 13th step nature and how were so nice you can’t find a way out mentality. Like look trust me I’m not in the program. Please don’t push your principles on me that I don’t agree with. I don’t like feeling bounced around to another group. I’m speaking for myself not the na unity. I only went to a few meetings and yes it’s an outside problem of a random Karen being real bitch. She’s not my mother and has no interest in my wellbeing it’s a pushy narcissist and the groups are very toxic in my area. I haven’t been to one in a long time although the specific is a thirteen stepper who rushes into the fourth step to blackmail members along with the clicky nature. Can you imagine everyone agreeing with that? It’s been over ten years the way it’s run is not going change. Everyone just nods and knows exactly how im talking.

So many lives are being saved by these wonder drugs that can actually stop the cravings, remove the fog, so a person CAN recover. More and more treatments facilities and entire countries require the use of medication for addicts… And to attend NA mtgs!!!! I support a person who does share her progress in titrating down on the medication and also emphasizes they cannot do it without mtgs. They must attend the mtgs and this is even though the person is often confronted with the “You ain’t clean” line. When did we forget that judgement of any kind can run someone, seeking help, out the door to a relapse and often death. Especially these days with amount lethal drugs available. Over dose is now the leading cause of death in young people in this country.

    yeah i relapsed 10 years ago and have been thinking about getting clean again without a rock bottom experience again. the problem is i have been clean several times at least 4 or five, and i noticed if you keep getting clean for periods like years at a time you eventually cant get clean or it becomes harder to get clean again over and over again, its like most people only get a certain amount of tries at it, like people i have known that had a decade clean and a decade later they still cant get clean. so it appears you only get a limited bite of the cherry, maybe i have reached my limit and getting clean might be near impossible for me again, i may have reached my limit. well there is only one thing to do and that is wait until i am ready to totally commit to it, i know that half measures meet with failure and if you keep making half committed attempts at getting clean your addiction will bring you back and it only becomes more powerful, there is no other way than to start off with a complete and total commitment to getting clean only that will carry you through the tricks and traps addiction plays on your mind, weakness will bring you to a relapse perhaps out of the blue. well i have been considering it for a few weeks now, i may not be in total out of control addiction right now, but i better not be deluded and not think because i am not using every day of the week that escaping my addiction will be a walk in the park this time, when i decide to quit and stop using my addiction will emerge with full force to get me back into the using pattern again, you often cant see your addiction until you try to control it and suddenly practicing abstinence will bring out ones addiction in full force to remedy this folly of total abstinence and it will play tricks and inflict mental torment on you and disturb your mind to force you to seek relief in a drugs again, just walking away from a strong addiction is a pipe dream, ones addiction will fight this folly of a serious commitment to total abstinence, and commit all sorts of discomfort and torment on the escapee from addiction ???

    I'm in NA and just got my 6 months key tag a week ago... I was so happy and proud with myself. I literally just found out an hour ago my 6 months clean time was all for nothing. My sponsor found out through my sponsee brother telling him I was on methadone. I honestly never thought it was a detail that needed to be shared as it's a prescribed med that helps me. Well my sponsor told me if I'm on methadone I'm not considered clean and basically said all those 6 months are gone and I'm back to zero until I get off methadone, not exactly his words but that how my brain registered it. I'm devastated and can't stop crying. In fact I'm baffled how I was not aware. Is it in the literature somewhere and I just simply missed it? Please help me, in fact if I'm told I've missed it somewhere I'd have an easier time coping with this. Let me make it clear, methadone does not make me high. I don't nod off, it allows me to remain contious, awake and sharp. Why isn't smoking cigarettes considered substance abuse? Why is that tolerated? Methadone does not make high, in fact it allows me to go to meetings and be involved with my homegroup. Shouldn't my sponsor of asked me in the beginning if I was on methadone since he's aware of the rules and I wasnt? Who would of thought that I could lose my clean time by doing something wrong without knowing. I thought there was only one way to lose it and that's by relapsing. And to be honest it seems like a good option right now. Why would it even matter, my clean time is zero anyways.

    • @AccordingtoJexi
      @AccordingtoJexi 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You did NOT lose your clean time. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who have strong opinions on medication in recovery without really understanding what those meds do. You see this a lot in the program. What may help is finding a sponsor who is more understanding. Also it may be better not to mention the methadone during meetings as it is a program of complete abstinence and many do not understand. I want you to know that your recovery is no less valid simply because of the opinions of one person. What's important is how you feel and how you are living each day now. Are you living in active addiction? Are you lying, cheating, stealing or are you simply taking a medication to assist with the physical part of your addiction while you use the program to work on the mental and spiritual parts? You know yourself. Please know that you did not throw 6 months away. Im very proud of you for speaking up and even asking. Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly... Especially considering this video is pretty old. Your words are very comforting to me. I shoukd say I really like my sponsor, he's been very easy going with me. I'm just trying to wrap my brain around how did I miss this detail? Why was I not made aware? It has never been talked about. I knew complete abstinence is the ethos of NA. But I guess in my newness, in my naiveness I never thought that being on methadone was considered as being "not clean" as it's trully helping me. I mean it never even was a detail that my sponsor and I got into a conversation about. I've never even thought to mention it, honestly. Anyways it is what it is, it's sad my key tags were earned all in vein. I know, I know, you say it wasn't and to certain degree it wasn't. But I still can't change the way it makes me feel. At least not right now. Again thank you so much for your kind words. Sincerely!!

      @@RainBitcoins Thank you so much! I hope to make videos again soon. I spent the last few years dealing with breast cancer so I had to step back. But I'm mostly feeling better so my hope is soon! The most important thing is that you are clean. NA does NOT specifically say anything about methadone or suboxone or naloxone. It DOES say that we are not doctors and many members have to take different psych meds to help. There is no difference. Anyone who says its one drug for another simple doesn't understand how these drugs work. If you are interested there is another video on my channel where I talk about medically assisted treatment for recovery and provide research articles to explain how they work. It may help you understand that you are clean if YOU say you are. NA does not tell anyone they are clean or not clean. Technically a person with a dope needle sticking out of their arm could stand up and collect a keytag saying they are clean and all people would say is keep coming back. NA is about feeling a part of and unfortunately there is just as much stigma around MAT as there is around being an addict. Please do not rush to get off methadone to fit someone else's standard of being clean. You do it when you are ready and not a minute more. If you want to start your clean time again at that point because you want to, then fine. But please understand you did not relapse. You simply continued taking a medication you were told to take without knowing someone else's opinion on it. What your sponsor shared was his opinion and not what NA says. Thanks for your kind words and know I try and respond to comments when I can 😊

    Alcohol is a very different type of drug.Most people drink it safely.Many Alcoholic's have also suffered from more than alcohol.Trying to control what people say is commie shit.I'm 61 years old and I can remember assholes in AA shouting us down because we ID'd as an addict and an alcoholic.Now AA is more tolerant of it.I can remember when the purists came into NA.I liken them to the same assholes that we had to deal with in AA.Jimmy Kinnon ID'd as an addict and an alcoholic.I'm with Jimmy

    As someone with autism and addiction I really don't want to be hugged, I struggle enough with normal social interactions, so an NA meeting seems like an impossible task for me and even more so now I think someone is going to attempt to make physical contact with me on my way in 😕

      Since Covid this may be less of an issue. Many people are more hesitant to hug strangers for a variety of reasons. I've even seen shirts with slogans that say the wearer doesn't hug. Another option is going to online meetings. Please let me know if there are any other suggestions I can provide

    Personally, I do not carry any guilt about using cannabis and being in AA recovery. My recovery is real, and I am grateful. I do not attend NA. I had issues over 30 years ago. I got clean on the Uncle Sam plan. Can't score coke in basic training. Now I do not touch any drugs except THC. No shrooms, no X, no Thai stick, no Kratom, no pain meds, to be honest I really don't take any meds. They freak me out. I have been iron clad on this since cleaning up in the 90s. Unfortunately I was under the mistaken impression that alcohol was not drugs. Whoops! 34 years of drinking, and I am finally and gratefully free. It was horrible, and I didn't know it. I actually thought it was cool. Now I'm an old man trying to salvage the years I have left. I never bring my opinions or the fact that I have this crutch into the rooms or shares. It could bring controversy, and threaten other addicts recovery. The recovery world pushes everyone towards a one size fits all total sobriety lifestyle. It's just not for me. I like my sticky icky. I like to have a little harmless fun. When I drank, it was not harmless. My ideas and decisions were immature and reckless. When I'm stoned I like to watch documentaries or clean the house or play with my dogs, all that stuff I would normally do. I just get to do it stoned, which is awesome for me. This might not work for everyone, which is why I keep it out the rooms, but you asked. My hope here is that I do not do damage to anyone reading this, but we all know that you can't blame relapse on others. I agree with everything you said, but I carry no guilt about how others may want to assess my recovery.

    This answers my question as to why there were so few young(er) people in my meetings. I see now how, in my youthful arrogance, I could have come to the same conclusions had I come into N/A early on in my addiction. I hope she found another way to get through whatever she was dealing with (I'd love to see that young lady make an update). To speak to the "junkies don't care what they're taking". She's almost correct, but it's because a "junkie '' is not only an addict. Not only are "junkies" addicts, they are addicts who we look down upon, but just like us, they too had the thought, "Oh, I'd never." What I and the girl in the video didn't see is that, sadly, addiction has and will take precedence over all morals, promising eventually anything you hold dear. My hope is she was fortunate enough to recognize this before she lost anything irreplaceable. It's amazing to see this now. Thank you for the video.

    AA is not started by a religions cilt. 2 alcholics meet ans started to share, Guidlines, steeps and tratitions were made. It has saved millions of lifes. NA as well. Why put it out as negativ. The women making this, vidio should know better.

    Tell you what, your so right, didn’t know where he got the higher ground or high horse after that lass stuck by him and know doubt brought them kids up when he was in his darkest days, I like the lad and he’s done brilliant but he has to pass on what he’s learnt and his experiences!!! That’s his only vid that made me cringe and I also had to comment about this weeks ago!!!
