They had been told Rovina was extra dangerous and were surprised it wasn't. My experience of staying in Rovina for most of the last two years is it's a very normal safe place. Local shops - I much prefer going to the local shops rather than the malls. The brutaria on Dezrobirii, or the other on Strada Spania, are both excellent.

Yep. Stick with the compound past 😊(perfectul compus): eu am mâncat, tu ai mâncat, el a mâncat, noi am mâncat, voi ați mâncat, ei au mâncat. Notice you need to know just the participle of the verb and use a shorther form of the verb "a avea" (to have). Of course you can use Standard Romanian even in Oltenia... they will understand you You know that Oltenians are typical seen as somewhat of a joke in Romania.... Kinda like the East Frisians in Germany

...well , I'm sure you will be better off there at the moment, rather than living here in the UK. I've lived here for 11 years, and I've closely watched internal and external politics since the "disappearance" of Jamal K and the poisoning of Skripal ... I don't know exactly why but those were my moments of WTH is going on here... fast forward I soon realised that we are being led by puppets put in power and controled by blackmail... from Clintons , Obama, Macron, Biden family...and the list can go on and on. ...since the beginning of this year I had a feeling that something is about to go wrong and I've started packing stuff and send it back home... and like you, I've sent my books first ❤. ... I do hope people will wake up to the danger we are in... don't be afraid of Calin but rather be afraid of those who demonised him as those are the real danger. Don't worry about the political tantrum going on now in Romania. It will settle down very soon. In fact we can see such political changes and unrests all over the world. It will be ok. Live your life peaceful and try to enjoy as much as you can. Romania is a beautiful country and despite of ongoing turmoil's, that country have a lot to offer.

hello! 16 year old student here. i'm currently learning french in school with the help of our local alliance francaise. just last month, i went to saint-malo with my school and it has truly been an amazing experience! i lived through every aspect of french life meaning that i got to stay at a local family, i would go everyday to school and take B2 courses of french, and so on and so forth. i'm not usually one to comment on any youtube videos at all, but i wanted to share my love for france just as you do for romania. i hope that one day i can become an international student in Paris, but until then i thank you for learning so much about our country! :)

I was gonna jump on you for talking about Romanian wine but not about Tsuica (I know that's not how it's spelled, but I don't know how to make the "ts" character) -- but then a few minutes later you talked about it. The best place IMHO to buy tsuica/palinca is in the market, in a plastic bottle that says Coke or something entirely different. It's available in the stores, at a high price, and I have no idea whether that stuff is any better than what one finds in the market. Any idea? As for French influence -- Some schools, like that high school in Craiova (where my Magda attended), teach in French. And, I understand that many of the leaders of the 1800s were sponsored to go to France to study.

Russian wasn't dropped after the 60s. I had Russian in the late 80s and early 90s (after the 89 Revolution). My parents had Russian. It wasn't dropped or, at least, not everywhere.

If I understood correctly you live in Craiova. So your comparison is based in that area of Romania. I would not generalize it to the entire country. Very few people speak French in Transylvania, Bucovina and Basarabia. After 1918, the influence of the old Kingdom, where French was widely spoken, started to spread to the "new" territories, but since we were never left alone, this spread did not take effect.
