Titling this "GAME OVER", 50% percent because it sounds cool, 50% because I am really proud of how far this build has come. I hope this gives you all some inspiration. Thule Motion XT L on 2015 Toyota Prius (with vortex aero rhino rack bars)
มุมมอง 64511 หลายเดือนก่อน
Been rocking this system for about 2 weeks / 1200 miles. Has been nothing but awesome. Superb quality from both the rack and box, and minimal loss in MPG (I'm loosing about 8-9 MPGs on highway). Installation was fairly easy - the bars took me a good several hours. but easy enough to follow! Would definitely recommend! Links below. Etrailer rocks btw. www.thule.com/en-us/cargo-carrier/car-top-ca...

I have similar but block out the front windows instead of the curtain in the middle. Why not use the whole car space
thanks a lot.
Very helpful. But, unclear what the inverter is used for & what plugs into it. And, unclear how you power your Jackery. I have been thinking about getting a bit larger portable power station, such as the Bluetti Elite 200 V2 or EcoFlow Delta Pro 2 Max. Would these be able to be charged by the car with the set up you have? Thank you.
Thanks! Just installed touchpad from t550 on my t440p :D
This video helped me choose a quiet switch.
Love it! What kind of guitar is that? I'm so worried about having an instrument in my car with me cuz of humidity and temperature ruining the instrument.
It's a black star mini electric guitar! A good intuition! Oddly I haven't had any major issues. The strings get out of tune more easily but whatever. I would NOT keep a wooden acoustic guitar in a car. But idk an electric seems more sturdy? But also this guitar was not crazy expensive so I'm not too worried about it. A carbon fiber guitar would probably be best too!
@@HowNoahSeesIt Thanks! yeah, I was thinking about a carbon fiber one, I played one once at a music store and I did like the sound. This electric you have looks so small though, that's a huge consideration in such a small space.
@ruchamapolak7013 yes!! It's so nice because it is SO small. (Super thin + size of a mini guitar). Sounds waaaay better than acoustic-mini-guitars too)
Great video brother one question in 6.2 feet what do you think i will can't camp in a prius? please reply me lol
I am 5.11 (and a half). I can fully extend in my setup (toes pointing up). However, I don't have the front passenger seat pushed all the way up. So if you do push it up all the way up, I think you will have enough room. I know people who are even taller than you who do it - BUT IT may be tight! Edit - some setups even take out the front seat.. in which case you would 100% have a lot of room - but that decreases stealth.
@@HowNoahSeesIt thanks brother be safe. i will go to the dealer next week to see one prius 2013
@carlosespinal1434 cool! Bring a measuring tape with you to measure length from back of seat pushed up to back! Also for 2013 (gen3) be aware of the potential for head gasket issues. I don't have specific advice for this, but just be aware of it. (My car also has this potential, but has been good so far - but it's also been taken care of VERY well)
thanks :)
How is the mpg on it? I’m thinking of getting one but I’m curious how big the hit on mpg is.
For me it was not that noticeable - hard to tell anecdotally to be honest. I feel like my mileage calculations on long trips decreased from like 48 to 42 ish maybe (anecdotal - not comparable trips)? But if I also look at how total range calculation (done by the car) then it has dropped by like... 5 miles?? TLDR hard to tell - maybe 5-10% high estimate 1% low estimate. BUT I do notice that cruising highway speeds, I do have to press just slightly harder on the gas. So that's gonna put a slight increase on wear and tear. (Edit) Oh also - I think at highway speeds it's a bigger difference, at sub-40 speeds it's negligible)
@@HowNoahSeesIt appreciate it thanks. It’s not as bad as people make it seem then
Nice setup. Have you ever had to replace the hybrid battery for the 2 years you've been living in the prius because I'm assuming the battery will degrade alot faster if you have it turned on with ac running 24/7?
Nope! Still going VERY strong :) I'm sure it's more wear and tear, but these cars are TANKS (as long as u don't buy one with issues). But I personally don't use AC/heat overnight. I will when it's very cold or very hot, but only 10 days a year or something. I DO idle about 3-4 hours a day during the day. So that adds to the wear and tear. But i've had zero issues. (I've replaced a headlight lamp and a water pump - nothing big)
How long will the fridge run off the battery before it’s dead are you having to charge it every day or will it go for a few days if your in the same spot
It charges whenever the car is turned on. With just that, the battery is topped off everyday. (Probably 3-4 hours on a day) The battery could power the fridge for maybe 48 hours without a recharge? That's my guess since I've never run it down!
Perfect thank you

Wow!! You're a veteran.
I have a 2015 prius just like this one but I have an automatic sunroof and solar panels on top of mine, do you have any suggestions for putting a rack on it?
Hm! Idk - but I would check out ETRAILER.com - they are very good about matching setups with your car (idk if they know specifics about sun roof etc)
OMG
PRIUS TIME
PRIUS TIME
Awesome build brother! I've got a 2022 Hyundai Elantra preferred that I'm planning on converting into a weekend camper/road trip warrior build! There's honestly a ton of room in it and it gets 37MPG combined so pretty good gas mileage! Been referencing alot of Prius builds for my build plan! Great set up dude, took alot away from your videdo! Keep em coming and keep on truckin!
Thanks man. Good luck and have a blast :)
do u have a guide as to deal with electricity? or where you find your sources to read about them living in a prius? i want to avoid bad scenarios
I don't have a guide for electrical setup at the moment. I would just research online (reddit is great). I use an inverter (which I got professionally installed to my starter battery), and I have an external power bank that just charges via the 12v cigarette lighter. The later is very easy. Edit: you can get by just fine without an inverter.
Really like the gear wall/cabinet idea Happy accident sparks inovation Permanent back up camera👍 Rain guards are nice How about ventelation/cooling?
Cool! It's a hybrid so I use the built in AC and heating when I need to. (Really cheap cuz hybrid) I usually will NOT keep it on overnight, but sometimes it does get very hot and I'll keep it on.
@@HowNoahSeesIt THX for the quick reply. If that wasn't the best reason to car camp in a Prius - I can't think of another (except for gas mileage - I guess) I have doing occasional trips in a smaller Transit van for the last 8 years 90k miles (love it) The reason I am viewing car camping videos is that I want to spend the odd night sleeping in back of my GR Corolla (the opposite of a Prius) as I rip threw the Pacific North west in search for the twistiest roads👍
@TerryManitoba haha love it!! Very cool. Yeah transition to car camping can be a big move, but if you prep right it'll be fun as hell. Good luck!
@@HowNoahSeesIt To be clear - I'm keeping the van for my multi mouth slow moving travel. The GR will be the opposite of slow and between 2-3 weeks... I enjoy both a bunch.
@@TerryManitobaalso cost and reliability of the Prius especially second generation They are known to go at least 400k miles
For the urine, get a one liter or one and a half liter bottle of liquid laundry detergent from a Family Dollar or other Dollar store. Screw off the top while in the store. If the container has a built-in pour spout, just make sure the pour spout is removable and take it out (after you purchase it, of course). If the pour spout is not removable, just check another brand and find one that either does not have a pour spout at all or has a removable pour spout. After you use the liquid laundry detergent, keep the bottle for a urinal. The screw-top lids are usually tight and waterproof, they have wide openings similar to the urinal you have now, the laundry jugs are short and wide and have wide, solid bases that don't tip over easily, they are tilt-able like yours, they have strong, built-in handles that are hollow (so more liquid can be stored), the bottles often smell good (at least for a while), the containers are not see-through, the jugs come in nice colors such a yellow, blue and green so stealth well, and they are cheap. I buy these for a disabled family member- much nicer than the ugly urinals. I rinse them every time and also rinse with a smallish amount of some dilute bleach water about every other or third time. If the jugs develop any residue on the insude, just throw half a paper towel into the jug with the small amount of dilute bleach water, close the lid tightly, and give it a good shake before dumping the contents. The paper towel will provide a light scrubbing to the interior. You can dump this in any public toilet too and get a little rinse water while there. And when the jug gets 'old', you can just buy another one for very little money. I also use a small hand towel or dish towel to cover up the stuff in the bin where the jacks and the lighter and stuff is to reduce interest and possible theft.
I'm gonna try this! Thanks!
I've logged about 1.5 years in my Prius, and I can't understand why people add battery banks to them. I have a 1200w inverter (I've heard that 1500w can lead to problems) and I'm able to charge devices/tools and run a fridge. These cars are generators on wheels, so why complicate matters?
I have 1500 watt inverter, works great. The reason you need a battery bank is to have power when the car isn't on. So this is necessary to keep the fridge powered all day (or at night). Necessary to charge devices overnight. Etc.
@@HowNoahSeesIt I've been doing all of that without any added power sources or batteries. I've left the car in READY mode for months at.a.time without issue.
I'm confused. You're keeping your car on almost all the time? Or you're running your inverter when your car is off?
@NoahRayRoberts READY mode. During the daytime, the gas engine might only cycle on once or twice an hour while running devices and an efficient fridge.
Ok - yeah, cool if that works for you!
Is that a jackery?
It's a YETI 500x (goal zero). Basically the same as a Jackery.
Interesting idea…..each cubic ft counts. I hate saying this but…..have you heard of the Prius V? Way more room. I mean…..I’ve camped in ours with my wife before haha.
Lol yeah the Prius V is great. Adds a bit of extra head space and cargo!
Tofu is terrible for a male.

great setup. Like the workflow and looks yummy tbh. I was considering the mini instant pot but damn. microwave in prius can be done.
thanks! ... Yes it can 🤣
I'm actually thinking about doing this!
This is sad as fuck. Mans is eating microwaved dog food in a cramped prius.
THANK YOU! finally someone who explains well
Salt lake is super chill. I spent a night there before at a 24 hour fitness
Great setup and tips. I'm just starting car living myself and so I appreciate you sharing your systems.
This is awesome
When your life sucks and feeling depressed, watching any van/car life videos really makes you feel better about yourself.
My house is terrible and I plan to redo it this fall. My plan is to closein very small area to keep LOWEST utilities bill.I can do car life but I did My time I was an OTR truck driver.I LOVE GRID TIED MORE THAN TRAVEL.You open yourself to every sort living that way . Here home I keep it looking so bad you know I DGAF they can't even figure out where I live here. They know I have camera I smoke someone they don't have the witness I do. I'm a libertarian you park in front my house I'm not calling law as long as you do you I'm as cool as you.
Your life really must suck ass if watching car/ vanlifer videos makes you feel better about yourself. 😅
does your rear view camera set up suck in the rain? mine does
It can, most of the time it's fine actually, but if a drop sticks, then it sucks (just depends). Snow can suck even more, since it's "stickier"
Cool setup! How did you make the side door black out curtains? Where did you get the side mirror convex thing?
Thanks! The side window coverings I DIY'ed with: reflectics + adhesive spray glue + black felt material. And cut to size. I use lil adhesives and wood sticks to keep em propped up. (I forget - at the time of this video it might have been either that or just black material taped on.) Mirror: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B071J2KPNN?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
@@HowNoahSeesIt 🙏thanks, I’ll look into buying those mirrors
@onlyinparadise4613 just know that they are probably technically illegal! ... Very low risk I would say tho. Just be careful when you are still getting used to them! (Distances are harder/different to judge)
@@HowNoahSeesIt good to know! 👍
What mpg affect have you observed?
From the roof box? About 5-10mpg drop - depends on speed. I really haven't had a noticable dip in my range, which is interesting.. maybe loosing 10 miles on full tank (according to the car). But when driving, you can definitely feel the difference. More gas. But overall it's not a big difference.
@@HowNoahSeesIt I've got the Thule cargo box for the trailer hitch. It's improved my economy. Got a great deal $300 . It's the tilt down with tail lights. Blocks reverse cam view only drawback. Greatest dumpster diving addition ever.
Ha! Sweet!!
@@HowNoahSeesItthe glory of Prius camping is you do not have to drive as much. Youfit in the spot that you're supposed to most people do not expect you to be sleeping in a Prius. You can park in town get your sleep and not be molested the majority of the time. My current lifestyle is such that I do not use that much stuff everyday I think my wife might actually improve some if I lived out of my car I can't deal with the insaneness a police and every joker being able to mess with you. At my house when I close the door it's my house nobody comes to my house sure my mom will come knock on the door but usually she leaves me alone. If she calls I'll go visit and play some cards.
Been watching many of your videos today as I have been obsessing how to turn my Prius into a camper. So many great YT channels, but yours has many ingenious solutions, especially the middle section platform. Been trying to figure out where in the car could it possibly feel more spacious, which takes headroom. I hope there is a detailed video re that build. Love how you kept the seat back (the bigger section) and especially what you did with the side cabinet/with hooks on back side, in your 2024 newer build. THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!
Well that brought a smile to my face 😁. I'm glad you are finding them useful!! Currently don't have a video of how I built the platform - but I took out the bottom part of the seat and the back of the smaller section. Then I just used wood and fasteners (screws) to make the platform! (and did not make anything permanent, no holes drilled).
@@HowNoahSeesItThanks! That’s enough info to begin. I will probably take my front passenger seat out and tint the front windows out, limo style. Yes, “illegal” but I hope with all the real illegal stuff going on, they won’t bother with me. Wishful thinking 😂.
@@janeorganizes2024 good luck! Yeah I have never had an issue with my illegal tint (but mine are in the back). You gotta bypass the air bag system if you take out the front seat (if u want the error code to go away) (and idk about safety). Quite complicated that I personally gave up and didn't wanna risk safety. Do some research on it!
@@janeorganizes2024 also... If you do find a solution to airbag bypass, let me know!!
Great tips! Thank you.
Oh dear oh dear oh dear…that roof box is sitting way too high!! At the end of the day it’s still a Prius 😂
LOL yes it's quite high. That's just how the bars are at least for that brand. Not been an issue at all
Yes….at the end of the day it’s a Prius….and that’s why Prius owners love them.
Dude……. the shredded seat cover.😂.
@@InsipidRoustabout exactly 💯 👏
Tried sleeping in my Prius, every time the engine turned on to heat up the car it woke me up. I honestly slept better with the car off with extra blankets.
Same. I don't keep the car on overnight.

Great tips and advise
Wish I could’ve continued watching this, but the speed of this was ridiculous, and with the camera swinging all over the place, it was hard to follow.
Sorry mate! Pretty old video - I've got a newer build vid on my channel if you want to check that out.
