Does it help reduce recoil substantially? Mine will be in the mail today and hopefully my 8 yr old can shoot the 22-250 and not have it thumping him! Thanx!
@@troybrake5686 some. Noticeably. What it does best is give you a no wobble platform. That said both deer I harvested this weekend were off hand because the shooting windows were too narrow for me to utilize my scope on the grip. And the deer were moving. Both one shot kills though. Your stand needs tall, wide windows. Other wise, go get you a Tidewe ground blind and hunt from there. It’s perfect for that.
I experimented tonight. Let it sit for 20 minutes before eating. Let it re-hydrate.
I recently got one that had some issues (screws being stripped) A few trips to ace hardware, a couple failed reassmblies, and some atf fluid on the inner piercing cap, and she seems to hold pressure now! Dont have shells yet to test but shes seems awfully powerfully for having only one co2 cannister Hope I can make her good enough for some small game! There is potential in mine yet

I was under the impression that there hasn't been any contenders made for several yrs. Rumor has it the company has been sold twice and according to the new owner that production and a product line will be introduced in 2025
@@keithlarge1151 Correct, they haven’t. TC introduced the G2 Contender and made those for a few years. Smith and Wesson bought TC in 2007. In 2010 all manufacturing was moved to Springfield, Mass. Greg Ritz was CEO before and after the sale but left because he disliked the big corporate culture. In 2021, Smith shut it down. Just this year, Greg Ritz bought the company back from Smith and is now moving it all back to Rochester, NH. The new product line launches at the end of the month. There are plenty examples of used guns out there. SSK, a custom barrel marker for TC guns manufactures an improved Contender clone called the SSK-50. There are several custom barrel makers and contender shooters are still thriving.
@theoutdoorslifetv3200 I've seen the ssk and wanted to purchase one and found out the price I was quoted was not close to what it was going to cost
@ check their site again. Further down the page.
@ EABCO and Haus of Arms has them as well.
You can find a nice used one on Gunbroker, or the TC groups on Mewe.
I put together a slick 6.5 Grendel rifle recently, my first AR build actually. I just bought a complete BCA 20" heavy barreled right sight charging upper, Aero Precision M4E1 lower, Geisele 2 stage trigger, Magpul PRS heavy adjustable stock. 25 round Israeli made magazines. So far I've only put 20 rounds of Wolf steel cased ammunition through it and the magazine scored the cases horribly. Luckily I hadn't burned up and damaged my good match brass cased loads! I may try the 7.62x39mm magazines since I just got an upper chambered in that also with 10 magazines.
@@RollingRigTraction some lowers will work with them, some won’t. The only difference is the follower.
In Florida you can only hunt with a 5 round magazine and the 762 5 round magazines work fine in my PSA lower BCA upper. Hornady ammo gets close to moment of angle groups.
Drink holders. Are under your legs.. 😂 How handy is that
Riding rough trails the drinks are gonna end up there anyway, so.
Hopefully this gun is better than the other, the original falls apart. The front screw that holds the sling broke into, it’s not metal, the piston stop working as well, buyers beware.this took place in about a year.
@@dwainmorgan8550 this one does not have a sling. No piston issues so far. Hatsan’s are hit and miss. I had scope accuracy issues originally, because it was mounted poorly at the factory. A new buyer should inspect these things on receipt. Some have complained about crooked scope rails. I dislike the combo rail they use. I think all manufacturers who make high powered air guns should abandon the dovetail rail and use exclusively pic rails.
Love this air rifle it hits hard !!!
The 7.62x39 mags are AR-15 mags for the 7.62x49 upper. They do work with 6.5 on this rifle.
I have half a dozen barrels for my Contender. 357 max is a very interesting caliber that I would like to try very much. As far as cannons go, my 45-70 barrel is pretty painful off the bench. Free hand is not too bad.
@@jakeoutdoors9600 This is the direction I’m headed. www.shootingtimes.com/editorial/put-the-357-maximum-where-it-works/372875

In the words of wise sports scholar, "thats a diaper dandy baby!" Good looking rifle!
Where did you get this barrel?
@@davem4193 it is a Van Horn custom I picked at an auction.
@theoutdoorslifetv3200 thanks, I'm hoping to get one like that at some point.
@@davem4193 my advice, for what it’s worth, get a Contender frame. Any Contender frame, G2’s are better, or an Encore and then buy the SSK 410 straight rifled 15” barrel with extra full choke. Turkeys have been taken out to 50 yards using that combo. Then you can add extra barrels in any of 60+ calibers that you like. The new Encores and G2’s are coming from TC in the coming months. Follow TC’s Facebook and their channel on TH-cam. My 10” 45/410 barrel full choke outperforms this 28 gauge barrel.
@@theoutdoorslifetv3200 that's good to know. I've been following T/C and plan on buying a new Contender when they're released. I'm amazed that the 10" 410 outperforms the 28.
@@davem4193 I was too! And it’s much easier to handle in the pistol platform.
One pc bolt or two piece ? Theres the prob. 😉
@@davidrivero7943 it’s not that hard to open. Two piece barrels. My SSK barrel was a little tough until it got broken in.
Whats the best choke for 12ga drone defense?
Agula is some of the shittiest ammo I've ever used, not only that its dirty and dont fire all the time, i had over 20 plus hang fires. With remington walmart ammo i get a fist size hole at 20 yrds. No choke. Definitely depends on ammo.
@@outlaw615 28 gauge is hard to find. Federal True Flight Prairie Storm is worse. I'm not the only one having trouble with that. I'm not worried about dirty in a single shot break barrel. But I won't shoot it in my 870 for sure. The gun used in this session is a Thompson Contender pistol using a Van Horn custom straight rifled 18” 28 gauge barrel, full choke. My TC 45/410 barrel full choke outperforms it so far.
@@theoutdoorslifetv3200 definitely I had a 28g but ended up selling it. Yeah the fedral flight is worse I just use game loads and they work like a charm
Later Gen1 models can use Gen2 barrels. The later models used a stepped lug.
That scope was installed before rails were common. I'm going to replace it with a rail to facilitate use of other optics.
Best way set that scope stay on target line crosshairs on where you hit no more then 3 shots to set 1 see where you hit 2 check adjustment n 3rd should confirm zero
@@mckinleypotter1785 it’s exactly in target now. Last 5 shots.
Where can I get more details on the barrel? I’d heard of straight rifling in context of getting around SBR laws but it never occurred to me that they’d be good for shot.
@@sssss8700 Thompson Center made spiral rifled 45/410 barrels since the ‘60’s. The use what they call a “shot straightener” choke which used to stop the wad from rotating. This one is a full choke reduction as well. Straight rifling came along a few years ago at Smith. Taurus also uses it. Thompson patterns a bit better. SSK makes a 15” 45/410 barrel that is capable of taking turkey out to 50 yards. The 28 gauge barrel I was using is a Van Horn custom. It needs a shoulder stock but I'm putting front and rear sights on it to use as a pistol, its so unwieldy with just the button. The TC guns were always made to pattern better because they were intended to be hunting arms.

@@dannyarmata8878 this one likes Predator Polymags.
These video scenes were set up using an iPhone 15 close to the target on slo-mo. The audio is slow-mo. It was an easy shot to set up and fortunately, the scope was mostly set. I had doped the scope for a windy shot in another session and didn't reset it to my zero stops. I reset it to zero and made the shots. A word on energy. With the 44-grain Predator Polymag, the average velocity was 570 fps providing a muzzle energy of 32 ft/lbs. At 25 yards, that drops to 26. At 100 yards, its 12. At 50 yards, its 21. I don't want to engage a target beyond 50 with it and I can't envision a scenario where I would need to.

Those who watch my channel know I use a 25 yard range almost exclusively. The video is supposed to be fun, not a serious critique of the gun.
