    Does anyone know the history/route that went over US26 parallel to Cornelius Pass Road ? There were some trestle footings there until just a few years ago when they widened CPR. I've often wondered if the MAX blue line was constructed on part of an old P&W route.

    P & W out of Oregon is the last or very few last trains in the native US that runs logs those log cars are from mid 70's so over 50 years old and still in service as of 2024 this one was I believe currently headed to banks where the mill is for those logs.

    I grew up on Jackson Quarry Road, parents still live there, about 2 miles from that crossing. It’s rare to see a train cross there, but I always am hopeful that I’ll get stuck waiting for one. 😂 Thanks for the video tracing many familiar places that I still pass by daily.

    I'm surprised by how this train was assembled... Lumber, then logs. Lumber, then logs. With a tank or two tossed in, just for fun! A view of this train on another day crossing the Holcomb Creek trestle would be cool as would a view of it entering or leaving the tunnel! Thanks for chasing this train along it's journey!

    • @gregebert5544
      @gregebert5544 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Look very carefully towards the east, just north of the hairpin turn on CPR as you head towards US30. You can see a glimpse of the tracks. And the answer is yes, there is a tunnel, but I'm not sure how long it is. Probably several hundred feet long and probably curved, going under Cornelius Pass Rd near the hairpin turn. The rails are very shiny, so it's probably daily. I live next to Shute Park, and there are probably 8-10 trains per day, all hours, thru Hillsboro. In fact, there's one right now as I'm typing this. If you look carefully on a modern satellite view, you can see roughly where the tunnel is ( 45.60598129233784, -122.8737424105851 and 45.614714807855826, -122.86026785874628 )

    The whistle on this engine is a really pretty sound. Seems like a 5 chime. Problem, the engineer does NOT know how to blow the damn thing. With a whistle this strong and pretty, it needs to sing out with pitch change. Not that short crap. Someone please teach this guy how to blow a whistle .

    • @Tank245
      @Tank245 ปีที่แล้ว

      The whistle on this engine is the original shop made boiler tube 6 chime it had at Rayonier. If you blow it too loud it sounds like ear piercing garbage. Having fired this engine many times I can say that it is my least favorite whistle.

    • @gervaisrailfanning862
      @gervaisrailfanning862 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've noticed they don't really have a schedule. They just run three times a week at any time. First run is picking up the cars at the interchange and then serving every industry, including Pepsi and Valley AG. Then their second run is switching out cars at the yard, then coming to Mt Angel to switch out the Pepsi and Valley AG cars. The third run is taking all the cars from Pepsi and Valley AG, putting everything in the yard and preparing their train to the interchange. These runs happen anytime of the week.

    • @TheCanbyRailfan
      @TheCanbyRailfan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re most likely guaranteed to see them run on Mondays when the UP drops off and picks up cars for them like the day I shot this video. Rest of the week I assume it’s whenever most of their customers need a switch.
