Gu patrol zd30 Air box modification.
If you own a Nissan Patrol GU zd30 you will know the problem.
The factory air box is not sealed properly to the snorkel and which will cause many problems when you start getting into really deep water crossings and dusty roads.
This will fix all those issues and give you peace of mind when you tackle your next big adventure.

Nissan Patrol ZD30 CRD Egr valve failure
มุมมอง 1.7K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
If you have an engine code po401,this could help you out. Apparently this is a common fault with the EGR System on these ZD30 CRD engines. We had real issues with the car when it first happened and we thought the worst. Had the engine gone bang,it was running like it had three cylinder and wouldn’t idle properly or accelerate. It was blowing heaps of smoke also so you could imagine what we were...
Nissan GU Patrol CRD ZD30 PDI front mount Intercooler
มุมมอง 4.6K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
2014 Nissan Patrol GU crd zd30 this is the extra large kit and it fits perfectly in there. Join me as I work through installing the PDI front mount Intercooler. Being able to keep my grill was a big tick for me. I chose this kit over a top mount purely because I didn’t want cut a huge hole in my bonnet and not have a big scoop blocking my view. Plus the heat soak issues you get with top mount. ...

Frenchman's Track

We tackled the Frenchman’s track from west to east. August 2023 With all the talk about the Pascoe river and how deep it was going be we set off with one goal in mind. Finish the track off no matter how deep it is. But as you seen we had problems with a small but deep crossing before the Pascoe. Broken winch cable and water in the car all because I didn’t get out and check the depth. Lesson lea...

The Frenchman’s Track Cape York 2023

We Tackled the Frenchman’s on the 29th August 2023. Nearing the end of dry season. The Wenlock and the Pascoe rivers being the mine obstacles. The GU Patrol made light work of track with just one little problem in the middle. She decided to sit in a puddle and wet the carpet. Oh well I guess I should have walk that first 😂. It’s a great track and one off the bucket list ✅.
Setting up for camp: The Bush Company AX27

Our set up is getting more and more efficient. 20 minutes from parking up, to sitting in a chair. New additions for this trip: the darcheoutdoorgear shower tent and the Companion Aquaheat Hot water service. Honestly, we should have done that years ago! Mind blown how awesome having instant hot water is. #camping #campingaustralia #darche #companionaquaheatlithium #livingthedream #settingupcamp

U stil got ur air conditioning
Air conditioning works fine no issues there.
@@nom_ben_livingthedream what's the benefit of doing this m8
There’s plenty of benefits for installing a front mount. Cooler combustion temperatures mean better performance and fuel efficiency. Diesel engines perform better when they have cooler air/fuel ratios. Front mounts don’t have any issues with heat soaking from your hot engine. Your EGT’s are a lot lower all the time. I can keep going but that’s just few.
Great vdeo mate. Awesome gu...
Great video thanks mate I’m just about to install this exact kit on my series 4 zdcrd. Just wondering what size hole saw u used for the piping. How big did you go?
Great to hear mate, it’s been a game changer. When I first cut the holes I used a 75mm hole saw as suggested in the instructions. That worked out okay for the drivers side but on the passenger side I was having trouble positioning the pipe and getting it to clear the A/C pipe so I had to make it a bigger hole. I would recommend a 100mm holes on the passenger side. Any other questions I’m happy to share. 👍
Nice rig mate ! What does it weigh
Cheers mate thanks. She doesn’t like anyone talking about her weight 🤣but I’m glad we upgraded the suspension everything underneath has been changed. I didn’t give up a lot of details in the video to much to mention.
@@nom_ben_livingthedream hahaha that’s all good mate I was assuming she would be heavy that’s for sure ! Also for your water storage I highly recommend a water bladder that sits behind the front two seats at the rear passenger foot well
Great idea. Space was always an issue on the big long trips and we looked at the drifta 60ltr bladder to do exactly that so I’ll have to look into that for the next trip.
@@nom_ben_livingthedream I’ll send you a message from my car page, a pic of what I run in my patrol
Love all the drone footage looks unreal
My flap must be down where yours ended up, l never found it. I did pull the manifold off and clean all the black sludge out of it while it was apart. I also did the resister mod on the pink MAF wire.
I bet there’s a lot of patrols with it down there. Pink wire mod would help too. Thanks
Seems like a perfect time to delete it. And put a plate in there
If you egr delete with blanking plate or loom do the fumes still bypass that section of the car or do not be lazy and just take it out
@bevanlarkin8614 I can’t comment on deleting the Egr completely but I do know that’s possible (not legal)and you would have to remove it from the ecm by an engine tuner. It’s a lot easier to just blank it off and leave everything in place,it’s now been a few months and I have had no problems with codes coming up or anything like that 🤞. The cars not tuned or remapped. The only thing that’s different is the flap is missing off the valve and it has a blanking plate in. Maybe the ecm thinks it still has a working Egr valve 🤷♂️.
Core size is overkill for the 3L and too much cutting for it. Not a fan of those clamps on the hoses on the cooler and you will oneday figure out why. The strap braket on bottom of the IC will rub and fret a hole through. Nothing should ever touch the bar/plate section.
Thanks for commenting. That size Intercooler is perfect for what I need, intake temps and egts are well done. With the setup I have and the weight of the GU plus towing I can sit at 110kms/h on the freeway and the egts sit 250/280. 👌 The clamps that came with the kit are solid clamps and I’ve used different clamps over years so I had no hesitation in using them. Yes there’s a bit of cutting but it’s all worth it. The bracket that’s in the middle of the cooler doesn’t contact the core as I have a rubber strip behind it. It’s made a huge difference to the GU and I’d recommend it to anyone. Thanks for watching.
@@nom_ben_livingthedream I looked at the kits but the $$$ was over the top. My core is 600x300x75 and sits forward, no metal cut at alld and bonnet bracket still in place, cut the front plastic grill. Hole punches used for pipe hole, no hole saws or jig-saw cuts. I run 20PSI on the snail and have EGT's of 250°C @ 110kph. The charge air temperature on entry is bloody hot (steams in the rain) but by halfway over the core, already ambient. Now you see why I said core is oversized for 3L . FMIC's are the best for any simple and reliable diesel setup. Hose clamps, they hold till they don't and if you blow a hose out bush, common to never see the clamp again and the sealing area will now be oiled and never seal the same . Good clamps are a must along with spares. 510K kays on the clock and still going.
@@bentheguru4986 what fmic kit did you buy?
@@hughesy43 eBay core, 600x300x75, eBay 2.5" pipe & rubber kit and a weekend of cool beverages and a bit of swearing. Not saying all kits are evil, just saying that there is enough on the market to be seeing better pricing and that these rigs are not new so why re-invent stuff when you can work with whats already there.
Great video, mate, missed the most interesting. How did you rotate it from one side to another at home?) Thanks for the content!
Thanks What are you referring to?
@@nom_ben_livingthedream The RTT is quite heavy. At the start of the video it's laying on the rails and later the rails on the top. What you've been using to rotate it?
Yes you are right they are heavy. With a few helping hands I flipped it over on the trailer and then used a forklift to place it on the Patrol. It’s still on the patrol as we speak. If you head over to our Insta gram page you can see it setup. 👌
❤❤❤❤😊
Very informative! Thank you.
Thanks for watching
Awesome video mate, love how detailed it is. I have a front mount coming soon, different brand but I'm sure I'll come back to this video for a few tips.
Hey mate loved the detail in the video can tell if it would fit with a hi mount winch thanks
Thanks mate. I’m not sure about the high mount winches, I guess it depends on what sort of bar you have and how far the it sits back so I couldn’t tell you to be honest. PDI do also make a large core it might be worth checking out.
I'm glad I found your channel. Yes l would like to see a video on your 12v set up. lm in need of 12v now that l have finished making my draws.
Welcome, thanks for watching I’m getting some content together and will have something out soon. What in particular interests you?
@@nom_ben_livingthedream The whole shebang mate. From how you ran cables from the starter battery threw the car and wire sizes to where you set up the 2nd battery. All l have is a starter battery so lm starting from scratch.
Exactly what I was looking for - thanks for taking the time mate, looks awesome mate
It’s definitely worth making the effort to install, it’s made a huge improvement. Thanks.
Excellent video. I could see what you where doing. Great job.
Thanks. I enjoyed making that one hopefully it will help someone out.
Excellent mate 👍 awesome setup. Love seeing another pooroll going bush like this 🤘 we used to have titan drawers, replaced them with xtm ones from bcf to stop the shit rattling, but was stoked to find they’re 10kg lighter per drawer. Just a thought 👍
Thanks for watching. I reckon I probably would have removed about 10kgs as well. 😂 I’m happy with how they are and they’re still working well. 👍
Thanks for the rundown, have a GU myself and planning cape in August this year. Super helpful, keep up the awesome work 👍
The Cape will totally blow your mind, it’s an amazing part of this country. The GU will eat it up mate.
Go the Patrol! Congrats on your trip ! 🏞️🛻📹😎🤙
Thanks. It’s a pleasure owning this thing makes things look easy.
They closed the old crossing because there was no money to be made, the ferry is an income👍
great Clip guys, love how real it is, we had the pleasure last year, we went west with our Conqueror UEV-490 hybrid van in tow, Few "F' Bombs too. Great work on your vid.
Thanks glad you enjoyed it.
It’s a great adventure, I’ve been there in a Gu myself, loved it. They are very capable with even minimal modifications. Would love to know what rubber flare do you have? I’ve been looking for something just the same.
They are very capable. The flares I got from Autobarn. EZFLARES 25mm I honestly didn’t think they would to long but I was wrong and they’re still holding on.
Thanks. Safe travels.
Nice video on ott
Thanks
That was a nice little day trip … on our list but questioning towing the off-road van 😂
It’s a great track really worth checking out. The track down into the Pascoe on both sides would be difficult with a van on.
Top vid mate. Crikey Palm creek looked worse than gunshot 😮
This is true
great video mate loved it, keen to give it a hit myself!
Give it crack mate it’s awesome.
Hey there. Just for simplicity I bought some supapeg leg ends for the awning and screw in pegs purchased off ebay or most camping stores. Impact driver and pegs are in, plug i have the driver for wheel nuts and so forth. So multi-purpose tool. The amount of people that ask me about the peg is crazy. Just thought I'd share as anything to easy is good for me and I'm all ears. Cheers
Thanks for the tip.
Epic adventure. The patrol ate it up. Thanks for sharing
Thanks. GU Patrols got to love them. 👌

Just read ya description, yeah we have the darche shower and companion aquaheat too, great setup ay! Was gonna get a emuwing on that side with ensuite over the top 👍 see what happens lol
First time a video has come up in my feed with someone camping in my home town. Its a ripper spot.
Need a video update mate! Show that thing in the bush, what ya been doing with it etc Looks epic 🤘
Well done mate, nice Cod 👍🎣
Hey mate, can I ask how it's been holding up with just the brackets? Doesn't sag in the centre without racks or crossbars? Got an ax27 as well and am thinking about doing the same setup, love your idea!
Thanks for watching. It’s been holding up really well. I’ve been on many trips away now on some tough Vic high country tracks and rough terrain. The only thing I’ve changed is the height of the brackets to lower it another 25mm, other than that it been great. The AX27 has been built super tough as you know and it doesn’t sag in the middle at all.
Came here for this too mate, getting mine soon, just need to work out the deets and this was really helpful thankyou. Also, what the most weight you’ve put inside? Im a heavy cnt and stressed its gonna sag lol
@@WaitWhat99 One of the reasons for us purchasing the AX27 was the fact that you can leave all your bedding and pillows inside and close it up. We store shoes in bags and the ladder in there also. It’s bloody awesome. It’s solid and I haven’t seen any sagging there’s support bracing welded into the tent frame so it should be fine.
It’s honestly been amazing. I haven’t had any problems with sagging these AX27’s are all welded with a solid frame underneath. We will upload a video soon with some setup content.
Really really nice mate, so well organized!!! Great ideas !!!!
Mate nice work I've just finished flooring and building and installing a center consoles into my old 4.2 seahawk stacer still gotta carpet it and put in me nav lights I've got a 40 pushing me boat I think it's over board tbh nice rig that's how I'm trying to make mine lol I nice clean boat

is the boat still for sale
Some good ideas there
very nice tinny mate, thanks for sharing your ideas.
mate this is a great setup gonna set my proline out like this any tips before I start?
Hi mate,Nice setup you have there.Would you be able to explain how you made the hatches over the fuel tank etc as I would like something line that in my quinny. Cheers.
Me too. Have a 385 explorer and have fully customised it to my dream boat for the estuary. The back casting deck is my final project for it and would love to know how it’s done as I don’t want to have it connected to the outer boat as it’s very weak.
Impressive, great to see people can still enjoy towed watersports even behind a little tinny. I've skied behind a mates 40 hp tinny a few years ago and I weighed 90 kg at the time so it can be done. I did it on double skis though, but still great if you are just a recreational skier.
