HOW TO fit a SPLIT CHARGE RELAY to your CAMPERVAN
มุมมอง 127หลายเดือนก่อน
A split charge relay is a pretty essential part for any campervan conversion. It charges your leisure battery while you are driving but then disconnects from the vehicle battery when the engine is turned off. This means that even if you drain your leisure battery, you can still start your engine. Please consider subscribing and follow the build #panelling #diycamper #diycampervan #selfbuildcamp...
HOW TO fit a side mounted VENTILATION FAN to your CAMPERVAN

Build your own COMPOSTING TOILET from ECO-SHIT

Ok, i'll admit, the name won me over lol! In our old van, i built a composting toilet as they are very expensive to buy. We decided on a composting toilet rather than a chemical one as we didn't want to keep having to search for somewhere to empty it safely. After much thinking, we decided to build one for the new van but bigger and better. A version 2.0 and here it is! You can also find me on ...

    Just to follow up on my last post, I was on a good road and just started pressing buttons and the cruise control works without any programming, still no light on the dash for cc but at least it works, also I mounted the switch to the opposite side so a word of caution to anyone doing the same thing the switch plug has 5 wires but 2 of them are the same colour 'white with black stripe'. I have a replacement binnacle ordered to change from mph to kmh, it's from a '17 plate so hopefully it will have a cc light

    Does your split charge relay work with a smart alternator?

    • @Markscampers
      @Markscampers 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes it should work fine as it is sensing the output voltage. It would just stop the connection when the smart alternator clutch disengages

  • @scottmitchellweb
    @scottmitchellweb หลายเดือนก่อน

    I found that the split charge relay doesn't work with Lithium batteries. The Lithiums sit at a high voltage with engine off and they then discharge into the starter battery! (Just a heads up for anyone considering else considering split charge and Lithium, get a dc-dc charger instead.)

    • @Markscampers

    Looks good, my only worry is will the polystyrene crush down over time in areas of high footfall traffic? It's because of this reason that people batten the floor length ways and cross ways when doing the floor with pir board.

    • @charlevoix418
      @charlevoix418 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      People batten their floor because Greg Virgoe did it many years ago, he even screwed them to the metal floor... If you install high load XPS, (strong enough to support concrete weight), you don't need battens.

      @DigiDiver 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I decided not to batten the floor as i want the maximum height i can get inside the van. The polystyrene is very thin and im hoping screwing it down will crush it enough that it doesn't crush any further.

I'm about to get an L1 H1 Renault Master, ex motability WAV with factory tinted windows all round for my first campervan build. Also I'd love to know about the satnav you mention .

    • @Markscampers
      @Markscampers 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it depends what you want the interior of the van to feel like. Our first van (LDV Convoy) had just the one window in the sliding door which made the van really cosy feeling but also quite dark during the day if you didn't have the rear doors open. The Ducato with all the windows in is much lighter and feels bigger than it is with all the glass but, it can't be as well insulated so temperature control is a little more difficult. As an example, in the LDV we ran the heater for 25 - 30 minutes in sub zero temperatures and the heater then stayed off all night. The Ducato we had to leave the heater running on low at night to stop temperatures reaching single figures.

    • @markallen7804
      @markallen7804 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Markscampers Thanks for that. I thought it might be possible to use insulated panels for when it's cold. The van has a Webasto night heater and an Autoclima 12v aircon in the rear, which I thought would be useful as the windows don't open.

    Hi Mark, My current camper is a self build Master van. I will be converting a Movano van imminently. The idea to make it 4 birth this time. The issue I found with both vans is the handbrake, It's in the way when you try to put a swivel seat on the drivers side. Your thoughts on this would be appreciated. I'm still in plan mode as to the layout of the new van. Possible shower over wheel arch with the toilet cassette accessible from the rear doors. Then main bed fixed and raised opposite the shower, if that makes sense. Then similar idea to yours for kids seat/foldout beds at the front with swivel seats to create lounge/dining area. I'll be subscribing to your channel to see the progress. Good luck with the build. 👍🚌

    • @Markscampers
      @Markscampers 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't got to the point of the front seats yet but have been researching it as it is a common problem for these conversions. From what i understand, there are a few options. I read of one person redrilling the mounting holes and cable access hole a few mm over and repositioning the lever. Others space one side of the lever with washers to mount it at more of an angle so the seat clears the lever. I may look at purchasing a spare lever and see if i can modify it to be slightly lower, maybe with a bit of cutting and welding.
