We tried a little heavier string but it would have damaged the guitar, so we went with the prescribed 10-46 and it sounds GREAT. If you played in a lower tuning I believe this guitar would have been just fine.

I'm going to attempt the height adjustment with the tilt screw like you did. I heard you say yours was originally at 9/64 which you called atrocious but I didn't catch what the recommended height spec is. Can you please tell me what you set yours to? This is a very pretty well built guitar, but being made in Mexico I'm guessing they didn't put much time into setup. Also I'd like to lower the action on the headstock end as well. Will I have to use my nut files or do they make an easy setup adjustment for that end as well? And I'm going to try a lighter gauge string because I'm used to lights and don't like the feel of the heavy gauge it came with. Do you have any suggestions on what tool to use to pull the bridge pins out with no to minimal damage to the bridge? The peg puller end of my string winder tool always seems to put a slight dent in the bridge of my cheaper guitar but I don't want to mar this one up. Great information and excellent video. There doesn't seem to be much out there on how to set one of these up. I appreciate you taking the time to post. This will help me a lot!
I believe I went to 5/64”.
Thanks for watching!
What are you using for the feeler gauge?
What’s the height in mm’s?
.012” holding at 17th and capo at first. Thanks for watching!

Been wondering what this bass would sound like with flatwounds and a piezo pickup that bypasses the built in electronics in order to get more of an upright sound. Hard to know without actually trying it. But if you have any thoughts, they’d be appreciated.
I’ve not tried it.
What tuners do you recommend for a 3x3 solid body electric? I am in the process of picking hardware for my custom SG build. I want to use all flat black.
Depends on the hole diameter. I prefer Gotoh locking if you have a 10mm post.
I have never tried that Dunlop cleaner. Not sure I want to.
It works! Very alcohol smelling.
“Setup to play” and crammed into a box 2 minutes before quitting time on Friday!!!
Absolutely!
I have this guitar. Can it be made as dive only so when i do drop D the whole thing doesn’t go out of tune? I searched but cant find it.
Sure. Use a Tremolo-No
I bought a Gb24 cort jazz bass recently. $220 out the box no issues at all (just an ugly headstock) great value, put some flats on it, plays like a dream. A fraction of the price, maple and pauferro neck, poplar body with maple top (beautiful too) same as fender player series I believe? The only thing id do would maybe upgrade the pups at a later date (maybe) as a little more noise would suit my playing.
Cool
The large washer is supposed to be placed on the backside of the strap… with the e-clip locked into place over it.
Joey Ramone low height for me.
I feel exactly the same about Neil. Seen him live many times. Don't care about what he says now. Liked his music.
Yep
Gorgeous guitar. Binging your channel. Very informative and enjoyable. Thank u
Thank you for watching!
Grt vid. Thank u
So nice of you
So, the tone knobs just come off like a strat? Asking cus the nut under my tone knob is extremely loose and was scared to do it myself because I don't know if it just pops on and off.
Did it myself no prob.
You should be able to just tighten it up.
This is a GREAT set up video!! Thank you. What are you using to set up the pickup height?
Stewmac. Just look up pickup height gauge.
Thanks.. but I fell asleep waiting for the work to start…😩
Hey! I was thinking of upgrading my Mikro Bass with EMG Active pickups, which would require to change the jack socket with the stereo one that they provide, but again it won't be the right shape for the bass... What would you suggest?
I believe if you contact EMG , they have a replacement barrel jack that would plug in. I believe they all use plug and play systems.
@@stringmanguitars4329 Didn't know that! Thanks for the advice, I'll ask them :)
Thanks bunch great vid I learned so much (I’m working on one now). If possible can you reply with tailpiece height and mention what that height will be in relation to (hoop-ring or what)? And if ok pls also a good rule-of-thumb regarding sanding bottom of bridge to lower action (so approx how much bridge material removed will equal let’s say 2/64 or whatever # you’d work with such as if using caliper then sanding ect; and with nut slot too). Or if this too technical per se then how’d best would you handle action and tailpiece adjustments)?
It’s 4/64” at the 17th fret. The bridge location (center of bridge) is 25.5” from nut, then you address from there to arrive at a point of the Es being intonated at the 12 Th fret. Thank you for the kind words and watching.
Hey why is there wiring under the bridge? I disassembled mine and im confused on why it’s there.

I'm 64 now and i can't believe that so many people don't know????? Light gauge strings 8s and 9s are for live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They cut through the mix! I learned rhisin 1973 ! One of the first things i learned.if you use heavier strings, all you hear live is, didly, didily, didly, didly, dee, dee, deeeeeeeeeee, ect. You can have a boost pedal but , everyone has their fingers in their ears and afterwards folk say, 'yeah they were good, but they knew it'! Or, they say, they were too loud! You will cut through the mix easier if you use very lightweight strings! Low mids, or the mud frequencies are very easy to get live. It all depends on how high or how long the room is! It happens exponentially from the stage outwards. Sound is three dimensional. The tone will ampify itself. The same rules apply to bass players. Use light gauge strings and, here goes, (you will really hate me now) 10 inch speakers!!!!!!!! Yes, let sll the bass come from the "bass" drum! That way you don't get the Doppler effect live. (The fire engine going past effect) The sound swirling past all four corners of rhe room snd the "bounce round delay" will make it sound out of tune! These are the very basics of live sound. For god's sake, I'm begging you, please listen! These are amongst the first things I learned in 1973! For god's sake listen to the experience of those from rhe 1930s 40s 50s 60s 70s 80s and 90s! There's nothing new here! The digital age doesn't change anything! Lightweight strings will let you cut through the mix without sounding muffled, or dull!!!!!!!
I have an s420 from 2009. And I bought the guitar because it has a bearing tremolo. After X year I have to say that the tremolo is a piece of sh.t. The entire tremolo is zinc alloy and my saddles and nut are totally ruined. Price of new tremolo unit from prestige series prices about 450$, but I dont know if that prestige series ZR made from steel or zinc alloy…..
Thank you for watching!
There’s a serial number, that’s a big give away you’re not that familiar with this guitar.
Don't have to need to be intimately familiar. It's a dive only Floyd. They come in gooned from the factory and I fix them. Thanks for watching

Time to go to acting class my friend!😂
I like that peg head shape. I might try it for my customs.
Remember the custom van era of the late 60's to late 70's? Awesome time to grow up. I was 18 in 1979 when that was still the legal drinking age. I the next year here it changed to 21, but I could still buy beer. A lot of my friends were a year younger and missed the legal drinking window and had to wait 3 more years. I was a popular guy!!
Ha
Love the shirt, I want one.

My T-Handel reamer has worked well for me from bridge pins to tuning machines. It does not have steps, but is just a long taper and spiral cutting surfaces. Still have to be careful not to chip out finish, but it works well. I have no idea how I will sharpen it when needed. Hopefully sharpening will be be needed.
I have one. It was supposedly set up at the shop. I never hear anyone talk about the Detune E string dropper (what ever its called). Mine is freaking terrible, its way out. help on that anyone? Also, i thought you werent supposed to string a FR from top to bottom, but more in a 3,4 /2,5 /1,6 type of manner?
No rules on stringing a FR. That video should get you through setting up the D-Tuna. Just follow along. Do the D first then use the set screw to dial in the E when the D-Tuna is pushed in. Takes time and patience. Thanks for watching!
I have an EVH Wolfgang standard two actually.
I purchased a Wolfgang because I at least wanted to have a guitar to remind me of his legacy. I have to say, the one I purchased is a beautiful guitar, made fairly well, but I dare say if Edward was still alive he would not be quite so excited at the some of the crap Fender is pushing out the door on unsuspecting customers. At the very least, the setup was so bad and the installation of the Floyd Rose locking nut was so unprofessional it was ridiculous. Fender should choose employees at production facilities a little better, and monitor them a little closer. Quality Control is a wonderful thing! Simply because one is not purchasing the very top of the line guitar is no reason for a manufacturer to sluff off on ANY model. Even the cheapest Wolfgangs are almost $700.00 or more dollars, and that is not an amount to sneeze at. (I think I'm correct on that price -- Wolfgang Standards?) The action on mine at the nut was so high I had to file it lower and also file the underside of the locking nut... I was afraid to file the actual neck wood more than a hair... it is fairly thin at the nut to begin with. The action on this guitar considering what I paid for it was absolutely the worst action of any guitar I've ever owned... and I've owned far too many at this point in my life to remember. To put it bluntly, the action and playability was nothing short of terrible! I had to SHIM (speaking of the shims that were in this vid's guitar neck) the neck at the body several times in order to get the action where it should be... I had already lowered the bridge as far as it would lower, and that is saying something... the action was STILL ridiculously high. And I don't require my action to be really low! To end this, it is just about the worst guitar I've ever purchased... Fender should be ashamed of themselves! Nice neck, great body weight, great-looking maple top, great body feel and weight, somewhat decent pickups, terrible tuners, terrible assembly and setup by the factory, terrible routing job in the spring cavity (atrocious, to be exact -- sloppy), volume knob cutting in and out when pressure is applied the wrong way, selector switch cuts in and out in the bridge and middle positions, strings over 1/8th of an inch off of the frets at the nut ... and the fret leveling was so bad I can guarantee some rookie assembled and set it up... or maybe he was drunk, on drugs, or just didn't give a crap. Very disappointed, and hope no one else gets near-trash like I received when purchasing my Wolfgang. It took me quite a while to get this guitar to a somewhat playable level. I still do not care for it at that. Ed would most likely be p!$$ed! If anyone purchases one, buy it at a store so you can take it back and not have to pay a return. Unfortunately, I purchased mine from Sweetwater, and they wanted a mandatory 15% return fee... regardless of circumstances! (Just to mention: Sweetwater has been great to me through the many purchases I've made from them, except this particular instance). Sorry for the rant... just trying to help other potential purchasers!
twelve 'thou' or twenty 'thou' can be said as thousandths and stop using coded cutesy language...
5/64 = 0.078in = 2mm 3/64 = 0.046in = 1.20mm Rounded in metric to make it easy :) No idea why some people use imperial but if you wanna precision metric is the way to go.
It’s what’s on my measuring device. Thanks for watching!
Hints: - make a single mark and drill a single pilot hole. Install a single screw. Make sure the rest is properly aligned and then mark your second hole. This reduces the chance of the marks from being off center and shifting your rest from the desired position or screws binding against the sides of screw holes as they’re tightened. - Don’t drill the entire length of the screw. The end tapers and it won’t be holding. Leave some virgin wood for the tip to fully bite into. Depending upon the screw size, material, and application this could ranged from 5 to 15mm. - Soap will work as a lubricant too.
Thanks for watching!
In order to play in Drop B you'll need super light gauge strings. I've used Super Slinky Bass 5 strings for Drop B and even then it seemed like they had too much tension. I think it would be better to get a custom set from Kalium.
so a normal P-bass pickup drops right in even with the reverse route configuration on the bass? thanks
Yes. Although depending on how much poly finish they left in the routs you might need to file those openings. I’ve had three of these and I have had to massage two of them. Same pickups.
Was my honor to do the guard brother. I only wish that some of the footage of the actual route hadn't gotten corrupted....but who knows perhaps we can work together again at some point. Anyway the guitar turned out awesome
Thanks man! I’ll spread the word for you!
I'm digging it brother.
sweet looking axe.
I bought the SOLO SG kit at that same time.
How did yours turn out?
@@stringmanguitars4329 Well, it is still in the box. I have so much other stuff to do. Soon. I promise, Soon.
I have this same guitar that I have owned for over 35 years. I love the guitar with 1 issue. Tuning stability with the Kahler. I have had the guitar set up by pros and no one has fixed tuning stability issue.
Very cool! I just bought one of these knock offs wasn't expecting much, but I am surprised how "not bad" it is. The 12 string is a complete tuning fiasco and pretty much unplayable. The 6 string has some upper register buzzing, and the G string goes out of tune as soon a s you touch it, All that said, It actually has great sound and looks/feels good. Thought I might try to set everything up myself as it was cheap buy anyway. Thanks for the video!
That’s a really pretty Casino. That tune-o-matic screwdriver is fantastic.
Thanks for watching! Sometimes you’ve gotta just buy Stewmac.
