DeltaHawk Engines - Jet Fueled Engines
The wait is almost over. DeltaHawk® Engines has achieved FAA certification and is being readied to fundamentally change the aircraft engine market. This is not just another aircraft engine. This is a jet-fueled, turbocharged, supercharged game changer.
On the average mission, a jet-fueled DeltaHawk engine is up to 40% more efficient than an Avgas engine-improving range, increasing available payload and lowering cost of ownership. Multiple redundancies increase safety. And operating with widely available jet fuel, you can fly anywhere in the world without the worry of finding places to top off. But we didn’t stop there. Our engine’s small, aerodynamic profile allows an elegant cowl design with less drag, further increasing fuel efficiency. To do that, we literally turned the engine upside down. And ended up doing the same to an industry.

      Both a turbo and supercharger spin like...a turbine. Low vibration, no reciprocation. Typically quite durable. And partially redundant. What DH is missing is the valvetrain/cam, ignition system. Low parts count. Not a ton to go wrong. Seems like a good tradeoff.

    I'm anxious for actual info to released. Why a V4? Why inverted? It's a 2 stroke diesel with a turbo..... but why does there also appear to be a rotary lobe blower underneath? How is this engine going to be better than the traditional horizontally opposed 4 strokes? There are way less parts with a 2 stroke and no need for ignition with diesel.... but they burn dirty and loud. Come on, spill some actual info for us.

      First of all - it will run exclusively on Jet-A for most applications. Why inverted? It is direct drive and inverted gives you clearance for the prop in planes designed for flat/boxer engines.

    I would like to know how the oiling system works. How the Scavenging works. If the engine is inverted with the cylinders down wouldn't oil collect in the cylinders if not used for a while? Like a radial engine? Would you have drain the cylinders before starting? I would rather mount it up right.

    My friends were so sick of me talking about this engine for the last 15 years. I thought the Delta Hawk team were on the right track. Direct drive, mechanical fuel system, turbo charged, supercharged, no valve train, no ignition system, clean looking installation low frontal area, (liquid cooled) so no shock cooling, and most importantly no fadec. I have always subscribed to the philosophy that once an engine is running as long as it has fuel and air and the throttle is held open it should continue to run! Ne electrical power required. This is a game changer for aviation. As a Canadian aviator I look forward to a cabin heater core, rather than a heat muff, safer with more heat available. I'm hoping there is an immersion type block heater, engine preheat for winter operations. Congratulations Delta Hawk !!!!!

  • @jaybee3165
    @jaybee3165 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    to those of you worried about the weight- the DHK180 delivers 363 Ft. Lbs. of torque @ 2600 rpm's. the io360 produces an ESTIMATED 389 ft. Lbs. - I say estimated because both lycoming & continental flat REFUSES to publish those numbers. guessing them from a formula will NOT yield accurate results in real world performance. HOW do I know this? simple experience and common sense. you cannot compare the performance of an engine with a 26 to 1 compression ratio and a squared stroke to bore- with an engine that has a 7 to 1 compression ratio, A 4.25 bore & a 3.5" stroke. they are two different animals with 2 completely different performance curves. ANYONE who's ever ridden in a chevy 1 ton with a 454 v8 will tell you that it's a great engine- if you want to go cruising. but hook 13k Lbs. of trailer behind it? a dodge cummins with less rated HP & way less engine cubes will walk all over it. plug THAT into your stupid equation. the difference? DIESEL. high compression, high RATED torque. gas engines perform well where high hp, rapid acceleration and a broad power band (again- hp) are good- like racing. what do big rigs use? DIESELS. why? because diesels LOVE to be strained- LOADED- and then operate at a set speed, ALL DAY LONG- aka- 80k lbs at 55mph.. ALL DAY LONG. INTERNESTING. what do planes need? 2600 rpm's... without slowing down, even under high load... ALL DAY LONG. the DHK180 was bred, born and BUILT for that. DIESEL. the lycontisaurus lawn mower engines? DISMALLY INADEQUATE for it. air cooled? FAIL. low compression? FAIL. horrible efficiency? FAIL. I am REALLY going enjoy watching this engine rise to the top. KUDOS to dennis & wife for their wonderful work in bringing GA into the 21st century.

  • @jaybee3165
    @jaybee3165 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    gemini diesel looked promising... then quite mysteriously... it was bought- and SHELVED. hmmm... now let's see- who would want to keep a LESS reliable eninge, that uses A LOT more fuel... thriving & on top? all I can say to dennis? KUDOS. for not taking what I am ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE would've been a HUGE bribe (the ignorant would say 'buy out offer') and also plenty of threats... and still stood his ground. you & elon musk now have something in common- you both kicked the big oil monster in the teeth & lived to tell about it. we thank you sir- for you efforts & your contribution- and we look forward to your future engines.

    • @TRabbit1970
      @TRabbit1970 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Edendum: I’ve looked into how I could balance the extra 100 pounds relative to the O-360 that would normally swing the pusher-prop and discovered that I could put the radiators in the leading edges of the strakes or even in the nose section and get most of the way to Being within the nominal c.g. range. When added to the adjustable rudder pedals and supporting leg well I want to use, and an improved ECS to give better control over cabin temps and eliminate airflow from behind the firewall (makes use of a forward mounted radiator system, or ducting from the radiators in the strakes), and it looks like I can get the rest of the way there. Still looks like nearly 200 lbs added to the empty weight when all is said and done. Interesting exercise, but still a really heavy installation for this airplane design.

      Curious about what is in the quoted weight for the engine. It seems that everything except the fluids and cooling system is included. It would be helpful to know what the intercooler(?), oil cooler(?) and cylinder jacket cooling add to the weight. It’s annoying when engine manufacturers (ROTAX is a huge offender here) quote ridiculously low weights without informing the builder how much more weight will be added to complete the installation.
