Plowing Rough Forest Driveway 1999 GMC 3500 6.5 Diesel

I've been working on creating this driveway at my wood lot property. It's far from finished and is very uneven and rough. My plow is old and very rusty so I was really taking it easy with it trying not to break anything. At the far end I kept getting hung up on roots and stumps. 8 foot Fisher plow

    As a fellow owner of the Chevy Thunder, I approve this message. I was surprised you did not chain up, coulda plowed the entire road in 10 minutes. Sorry, I used to do snow removal 20 yrs back. I realize that you had to take it easy, a stump can really do some damage to the frame. If a Dodge truck tried this the frame would crack in the first 100 feet. I have owned them all and Dodge has been churning out crap truck frames for decades. Dodge is Ok for city plowing.

      @@michaelr385 Awesome. Those 1988-1999 trucks were the best GM ever made. The 4.3, 5.0, 5.7, were all real good gas motors. I remember the 6.5 diesel being hit and miss. I'm glad yours seems to be doing well. How many miles do you have on the truck now?

    • @michaelr385
      @michaelr385 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joeraptor1 She's got 206,000 miles now. Yeah the 6.5 had a few issues even though I've heard the 98-99 version was best. I've done a few things to help reliability like relocating the PCM to an external cooler and adding an aftermarket low pressure fuel pump. The truck is a good workhorse for me so I try not to push it too hard.

    • @joeraptor1
      @joeraptor1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelr385 Super. I believe the 6.5 was made by Detroit Diesel and they usually produce really good diesel engines. Modern emission constraints have made modern diesels expensive to run and maintain.

    That’s a pretty good snowfall brother! Just curious, has it ever been a problem for you that your dually track is wider than your plow? Or seeing out the back window of your topper when plowing? From a fellow plow guy in Iowa (F-250 w/ a Boss v-blade).

    • @michaelr385
      @michaelr385 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I always have my eye out for a used 9 foot blade. It gets annoying when the dually runs right over the bank I just made. The 8 foot blade works if I'm plowing straight but any curve and the dually is in the bank making a mess. Obviously a reg cab single rear wheel truck would be best for plowing driveways but I work with what I have.

    • @brokenarrow5928
      @brokenarrow5928 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, do the best you can with what you have where you are. Very few guys around here run dualleys and even fewer have toppers but at the end of the day is better than beating up on a half ton truck with too big of a blade. Stay safe brother!
