I've been enjoying Doctor Strange a lot lately, so I decided to take him up against a really tough villain. Strange goes aerial with his cloak, giving him access to Honed Technique Dive Bomb. It's crazy that he can do that while also being an amazing support with so many tricks up his sleeve.

Nova is continuing to grow on me. He is very fun and very powerful. Mysterio threw a lot at me this game. At the end, I overreacted to the board state. Had I taken a second and realized that I had a Forcefield Projection that I was guaranteed to draw into, and considered that I had enough damage without needing Wasp, I could have made the correct play. why do you not perform the surge ability on weapons runner?
@@danacoleman4007 if it’s at the beginning due to the main scheme, then it’s because it’s put into play, not revealed meaning you don’t do surge. If it was dealt to me as an encounter card and I didn’t do it, I just forgot.
@@DaringLime okay. thanks. I just find this game very difficult and I was wondering if I was somehow making it even harder than it's supposed to be. I'll have to keep in mind the distinction between revealed versus put into play
@ that distinction is quite confusing. It’s the same for player cards as well. I personally wouldn’t worry about it too much. The orange book that came with the game will answer most of your questions. I would recommend sticking with that one until you start finding it insufficient before moving on to the updated rules reference. Just remember, always follow exactly what a card says, and you should be okay.

Great game. Yeah Dr Strange has lots of draw AND cycle options to hit those combo/power cards. Biggest threat from Ronan is him smashing through with 'overkill'. Sometimes he gets it when HE needs it, sometimes he doesn't. For purposes of moving control of the PS. 🤓 T1 Ronan regular attack: He still **Dealt** 3+ damage when hitting your 'tough'. Hero using 'defense rating' can "reduce the damage dealt", but 'tough' does not - it merely "prevents damage taken". The old (err "new") "Deal & Take" rules strike again...lol So he woulda taken the PS on that 1st attack not with 'Superior Tactics' which would have been a boost card. I think still would have taken 8 damage from the 'surge' into 'Assault' as the other card was also a 2 boost. Then your Dive Bomb would get it back on T3?? Right before main pops and he steals it back again...or something. PS moving is hard to remember ALL the time 😵💫
Ya the power stone rules are goofy. The difference between dealt and take isn't intuitive. I knew the correct ruling on that, but that's the kind of thing that I will forget about while playing lol. It may have had a meaningful cascading effect into the rest of the game, but it also may not have. Too hard to tell.
@@DaringLime Interestingly, the way "deal and take" work is exactly how it works in LOTR LCG since it was released in the early 2010. And since I played LOTR way more than I should, I am totally comfortable with it in MC. Plus the "deal and take" was already official ruling in MC when I started this game. This is why I never had a problem to apply it intuitively, but I can definitely understand why it is troublesome for most of the community.
@ ya it’s just super weird with how defending with a basic attack reduces damage dealt but a tough reduces taken and that spider man’s back flip doesn’t work on power stone. It’s just all really strange lol. I think the power stone and juggernaut are the only times it really comes up that often though, at least for me.
@@DaringLime The way you formulate it is very interesting, because while it is totally true, it also show how "unclear" it might be in your mind. Let me try to reformulate it, and let's see if thing get more intuitive. Tough does not reduce the amount of damage taken, that is just the aftermath/consequence, but it is not what it does. Tough Regarding indirect damage: Tough is a buffer equal to the amount of remaining HP avaible for the character. If Luke Cage is played, he come with a tough. That means 5 damages can be dealt/assigned in one fell swoop to his tough. Then you resolve/take the damage, which pop his tough. Tough Regarding direct damage or damage resulting from an attack: Tough is an infinite buffer. It can be dealt/assigned an unlimited numbers of damage in one fell swoop. Then you resolve/take the damage, which pop his tough. Defense Regarding Damage from an attack: Defense is not a buffer. Defense is a hard damage reducer. Like helicarrier reduce the cost of a card, Defense reduce the value of the Attack, not the value of the damage. And the result/aftermath of that, is that it reduce the damage dealt, but once again, this is not what it does. What it does it reduce the value of the ATK, not the value of damage dealt, which is an aftermath.
Quick summary/conclusion: -ATK minus Defense equal damage dealt to the character. Simple equation. Tough absorb Damage dealt, and then pop after one usage. Simple equation. This is how you can save your tough, by defending. Because tough only care about damage dealt, while DEF only care about ATK value.
Ahah, honed dive bomb. Ronan main weakness, if any is his low HP, relatively, for a final boss. Sunfire kinda break his economy/control, and Honed Dive Bomb, well it is honed dive bomb lol. As I told you, I think ronan is poorly designed; no gimmick whatsoever. All he got is big number: economy, boost effect, stats, encounter cards. From there it is just a race of who go big first. And it seems it was you lol.
I don't feel bad building a deck to try and shut him down lol. Some villains I enjoy the struggle they can provide and I don't want to counter them, but Ronan deserves it lol

#5. I didnt think that cards in your hand are cards that you control. I thought I could only play interrupts on another player's turn.
Cards in your hand are cards you control, but there are a lot of nuances to that. To find the exact rules you'll want to look at the 1.6 RRG directly. Interrupts can be played whenever the condition is met regardless of whose turn it is, player or villain. Hope that helps :)
Finally getting around to watching this video. Man it has been hard catching up after the winter holidays. 1:37:47 Anyhow, I see you and AndyR both have Phoenix decks on the screen, and I notice you both have Superpower Training; what’s the target? I think I can say honestly that I don’t play SPT in my Phoenix decks, so I was just curious
I can't speak for andy, but for me the target is Rise From The Ashes. It's her 3 cost upgrade that allows you to revive to full health after being defeated. I find it to be incredibly useful and powerful. Hope that helps :) and thank you for watching this behemoth of a video lol

I will suggest to reduce 1 Haymaker., keep 2 inside the deck and add 1 more ally from the protection aspect core box (Luke cage). Basically to have at least 6 allies (the standard for a normal deck) since the ally card type is the best type of card of the game.
Those are great suggestions! That is probably stronger than what I did in the video.
I agree that Aerial is a bit weird. I think it would have been better to make the cards that care about it a bit below curve if you play it when you don't have Aerial and a little above curve if you do have it instead of the all-or-nothing we have now. Maybe in the future. I also really dislike the interaction between Honed Technique and Dive Bomb. Honed Technique works fine for most cards, but an expensive attack that hits everything just gets way too strong. I've only played that combo once or twice, and it just makes the game boring. I hope they issue some errata to break that particular combo (maybe make Dive Bomb not an attack, like most other area damage cards).
@@Anondod I don’t expect they will errata that. It is super strong though. It’s not technically dysfunctional though lol. I wonder if they just didn’t make it work both ways to save text on the cards 🧐
@@DaringLime It's possible. Dive Bomb was very weak before Honed Technique, but now Honed Technique puts limits on what they can do with Aggression attacks which feels not great.

I really like Spectrum. Even though she doesn't have any cards to take advantage of it, I think she really likes to go to Alter-Ego for the exact reasons you mentioned for her first turn, so I really like her in Justice for that reason; plus, Law Down the Law is a natural card to add to her deck. On the other hand, she can be a lot of fun in Protection, too, with cards that let her ready frequently.

@@kansaskyle I got it on eBay. FFG sends booster boxes to local game stores so that when there are marvel champions events you can get free cards. I wasn’t around for the beginning of the game so if I want any I have to buy them. I just like doctor strange and desperate defense enough to where I felt it was worth it.

It was a while ago now, but I've also used 'Resourceful' in a Dr Strange deck, for stacking 'wild' resources (including other such cards too) in the deck and leaning into playing his 'Magic Blast' event and triggering all 3 buffs - so regularly getting $3 = 7 damage, stun, confuse.
@@shanepheeney9029 I’ve tried that before. It’s so cool! When I tried it I used the domino ally to put a wild on top of my deck before playing it and that was a lot of fun.
Now I am a more expert player and start deck building from scratch, but I viewed this video imagining me at the beginning... Very helpful and clear. Thanks for the video!

I like to edit precon myself for first couple of run of a new hero, just to get familiar with the new cards and how they interact with each others! Very cool concept. This said, I think perfect defense is not a very strong archetype, especially with dc strange. But I understand why you did it, it is just something that is important to know for new player. Perfect defense require hero with high def stat and powerful in kit defense. Without that, the archetype fall short quite fast. I noticed a couple of misplays, but they did not impact the game. You did not trigger unflappable on the first perfect defense lol. You resolved incite after putting hydra regular into play, and as the reminder text on the actual card said "it is only when revealed" lol. Last one is that you forget to "take a damage or put a threat" on the MS in one of the latest turn, but that did not matter lol. Good game!
@@alberttaco3668 that’s pretty minimal on the misplays lol. I don’t really trust reminder text on old cards. For instance guard says you cannot attack the villain, but in the rules reference it’s all cards you control can’t attack the villain. After that I just kind of disregarded reminder text for any do the old scenarios and just use the rules reference guide (which I didn’t have handy here lol). I think the new setup and having recorded games instead of live streams helps me a lot.
@@DaringLime Yeah, I think it is also more interesting for the watcher. When I watched "recorded streamed live", not only you feel as a "secondary target", but you feel the player has to keep his live audience entertain. And it is totally legit, when I go on your live stream, you want to entertain us/me who are participating in the chat. But that is a lot of pressure for one human. Checking the chat, the board state, the ruling, all of that make for an entertaining moment, but not for a great "game". If you see what I mean. TH-cam is made for quality. You record, you edit, you publish. Stream is made for quantity. You create a comfort zone for you and the people with you, and you spend a good time together. PS: If you feel me reporting the misplays is annoying or pressuring, tell me and I will stop. I do it for the sake of discussion and sharing knowledge, but I like you, I support all your effort, and I don't want to to be the guy "you are playing the game wrong". That is not healthy at all.
@ it doesn’t bother me at all pointing out the mistakes. When I first started the channel I used to make mistakes because I didn’t know the correct rulings. The comments helped me a lot. Now they sometimes teach me a new rule, but it’s less frequent. They don’t bother me at all and it’s nice just seeing people engage. One thing that keeps happening when I play doctor strange that no one is pointing out funnily enough is that I end up with some of my cards on the villains discard pile at the end of each game. I have a bad habit of putting things in the wrong discard pile, especially when there’s 3 decks instead of two lol but no one seems to catch when I do that 😂

I always found it weird that aerial wasn't associated with ranged, in the fact that an aerial character shouldn't be getting retaliated, thematically that is.
Ya that is interesting. Some attacks certainly seem aerial and ranged, like Iron Man's gauntlets. Dive Bomb feels like you're coming into melee ranged. It think it would be cool if some aerial attacks in hero kits had ranged.
I think some people need to stop including cards like “super power training” and “repurpose” in every deck that can use em. Its fine in moderation but other options exist.
I really like playing defensive builds in protection in multiplayer. I struggle to find decks I really like in solo though for protection.
Love these videos dude. I completely agree that it’s nice to just be able to discuss the game. Especially when you don’t have that many people or a playgroup to talk about things. Keep up the great content, and go live more!

That's a good example. I haven't played thor a bunch. I did actually play him last week, but I didn't talk about him. He felt so awkward to me with his hammer throws.
@@DaringLime I play mostly multiplayer with each player taking a distinct role, so I know the following is situational (someone else is handling threat), but I love playing Thor in Aggression using Aerial events and Hall of Heroes. It's so thematic. Versus Zola, the number of times that Thor "emptied" Hall of Heroes was so satisfying.
It is a weird trait for sure. It is existing since core box, and up until now it feels like a mostly ignorable trait
They did some cool stuff with it for angel. I'm curious to see how it updates in the future. Nick Fury looks pretty cool with it.
@DaringLime outside Angel who's whole mechanic is Aerial, most heroes barely care about Aerial cards. Well except Honed Technique+Dive Bomb
@ I think pitch back, yaw and roll, and ever vigilant are all really strong too though.
@@DaringLime i wont say yaw and roll is strong. For justice cost 1 more, but thwart 1 more, and dont have thwart and aerial requirement.
@@DaringLime pitch back is good multiplayer i agree but not sure who can consistently be aerial when it comes out. Ever vigilant is good i agree on that.
