In real life I am an Aerospace Engineer and I run the prototype manufacturing department of a Research, Design, and Development company in the Atlanta area. My hobbies are vast and varied, but do NOT include watching television, professional sports, or video gaming. This allows me to live an eclectic lifestyle, and to feed my insatiable curiosity. I have been blessed with many abilities and I have been interested in recording videos of my vast and varied projects for decades. Even though I have been able to conquer my fear of exposure, public failure, and my own self-consciousness and record myself, I haven’t been able to do so in a way that doesn’t require a considerable time investment to which I would have to source from other activities. I live and breathe R&D and I will eventually figure out how to send my full and interesting life to posterity. I have 2 active channels, this one, which is to be unpolished and raw, and another one that is intended for general audiences.
Replacing a Honda HRX217 Transmission
Replacing the hydrostatic transmission on my second-hand HRX217HXA push mower.
This isn't really a tutorial, more like a video of me going through my thought process.

i did this job, putting this thing back together was a pain, but I got it.
Muy buen video amigo, thank you!
If mine needs replacing I'll take it to the shop. I might break things in the process. Still cutting in the 17 yrs mark.
Its not too bad if you watch someone who actually knows what they are doing.
If no one has kept the rear adjuster bushings lubed, all that extra resistance may be why the transmission failed. It needs done every 1-2 years. Your parts guy is wrong. Grease is the way to go, and that spacer washer isn’t matched to anything. It’s just a spacer.
Did you get another deck?
I have found the easier with back wheels tilted in the air. I drain the oil and gas prior to tilting it.
The decks crack at mount holes for engine also.
I do not know if still have mower, I repaired our mower deck with fiber glasss. It seems to work well.
You never, ever turn your mower over with the carburetor side down!!!
I don’t know, maybe you’re right. I’ve never had any trouble doing it that way.
@@paulmccoy2908Oh he is definitely correct!
I like to lay out old towels to work on. Parts don't bounce!
If you take it to Honda and show them they put a claim in and then wait to see if they accept or reject it the only issue is you repaired it and you’re not original owner they replaced mine 0 cost
Yep, 5 year residential warranty.
6:38 ".. how do you get this thing apart? Should just come right out, right?" lol - ya have to take half the mower apart, and then it "comes right out."
37:10 incredible speed , thanks
How did you get the u bolt off
I don’t remember a u-bolt.
Hi Paul Do you happen to have the part number for that transmission? Great video.
