I've not taken mine apart yet to attempt to fix, but is the problem down to dry/broken joints on the multiway ribbon or shrinkage of the conductive zebra-strip rubber under the white plastic bezel? I've successfully repaired several LCD displays on FT-290's where the zebra -strips have shrunk by cutting a piece of thin mylar type film to fit under the edge of the bezel to push the display back a few thou, just enough pressure to restore contact with the pads on the PCB - works a treat 😁

Hi nick, yes it has been a while . I've had no antennas up to work the sats for a while, I've been swapping things about on the mast.. May be I'll put something back up this year...

Thanks Motters , I've built a few 2m yagis , the one in the video (9 ele tonna)is a bought one so I can't take the credit for it lol . With it getting on a bit I've recently changed the screws etc to aid dismantling. Let us know how you get on with the build .. take care, Ben 🙂

Yep definitely , with 10/11m Dx at the mo and the moxon fairly easy to build its worth knocking one up. 😀

I'm using an old power lead to a vacuum cleaner, not that it makes any difference but one side is blue the other brown . I always save old power leads / wire for this very reason .. many thanks 😊

Hi Barry , yes you did hear me mention a second video. Since this video I hadn't used the HeX, BUT this last month or so I've started to play around with it . I'm currently filming little bits ready to do part 2 .. its been over a year ,but hopefully get the HeX up soon...many thanks , take care Ben...

@@benm1mlm846 I've got the one from MFJ Ordered. Seen a good review about it from cbradiomagazine, sounds like really good for local 11 meter traffic if vertical/diagonal-ish.

@@benm1mlm846 thanks mate. Unfortunately, i spoke too soon and they returned overnight. It seems that as the unit heats up they slowly disappear.

​​@@benm1mlm846​ Don't know if you've got round to putting a new display in yet, but I've successfully repaired similar problems on several radios where the conductive-rubber "zebra-strip" has shrunk causing loss of parts of the display. Carefully dismantle the white plastic bezel from the actual glass panel so you can separate the 2 parts. You should see the glass panel has conductive areas that contact the zebra-strip which in turn touch the gold-plated lands on the backing PCB. Find a piece of mylar, PET or similar thin clear plastic film maybe 0.2 or 0.3 mm thick and cut a rectangular piece to fit neatly inside the bezel where the display sits. Then carefully use a scalpel or modelling-type knife to cut a window in the film where the display shows through. Put this window of film into the bezel, put the glass panel and zebra-strip back and reassemble to the PCB. You should find the zebra-strip is now slightly compressed and restores contact with the PCB and glass making all the display segments visible again. No need for a new display and a lot cheaper 😁

Hi, it can be very frustrating at times getting everything running correctly , I used HRD at 1st but didn't work for me, I was having problems with the doppler correction. so I now use satpc32 which can be seen on the left monitor.(right monitor is HRD just for visuals) It takes a little getting used to but is very good . The 9700 is been controlled by satpc32 for doppler etc.. If you have more questions etc I'm happy to try and help anyway I can 😊 Ben M1MLM 👍

@@benm1mlm846 Hello all I know this is an old one but I would like to try this but cant figure out freq tracking im using 2 IC-706 im able t connect both vfo knobs but it does not make much sense. Is there a fix space or shift however we can call it seems like rx freq is moving more than the tx one. Thanks YU5KBm

100% agree, this is why it took so long to compare as I expected the moxon to be way better on rx. The efhw hears everything the moxon does but 1 or 2 S points down at times . But on tx it's always around 2 S points up. I've had very good results with the efhw and sounds like I have the same as you ,80 to 10 with no comp coil for 10m. May be I've made a good efhw and a poor moxon haha , I find it all interesting just the same .. need to compare it to a vertical really . I've got an antron99.. Oh and yes I had the moxon pointing the right way... take care.. Ben
