Cool deal.. 1 great moter for sure
Yes sir they don’t make ‘em like that today 👍
Looks and sounds great. Those old school Petes are nice. Oh yeah., Old truckers never die, they just get their Peter re-bilt.
Yeah and way better off having an old one rebuilt 😂👍
I am a retired truck mechanic I worked on these engine's back in the day they were a big horse in its day.
Yeah it’s crazy a big engine like that was roughly 450 hp factory of course 😂😂👍
Still a great truck even for its age! Looks like its ready to put in a lot more work!
Yeah I’m sure it could go rite back to work 😂👍
Dozer engine🎉🎉 put some WD 40 on the fuel tank, that engine will run like a dream.
I’m sure it would like that 😂👍
Nice Pete that’s for sure😊
Thanks it’s a little rough after 42 years but hopefully we can take care of it 😂👍
No hole in the roof and you're still upright on the floor. Looks good!
Yeah I think it’s gonna be ok 😂👍
@@muddycreekiron1487 Don't need much compression to freewheel.
Is this truck from portersville
Yes it is 👍
Sounds good to me for a V-8 Cat , Take care of yourself and this truck, sir. May 2025 be good to you. Also I hope you find lower fuel prices in the new year.
@@jeffearnest3269 thank you and hopefully the new year will be better for all of us 👍
I read a lot about Ashtabula and atomic stuff. Those are too fast for me but look a lot like the old one you have. Blessings
Hope that 3408 don't bite you for fooling around with an older woman. Blessings
One way to find out!
Gonna keep working on it I think it will work out ok 👍
@@muddycreekiron1487 Looks like you already did!
That rig might pop and you might never see it again. This is right up your alley working with a gaggle of truck drivers! Blessingts
You have a great start there 3408 DITA 😊
@@jamesanderson5243 thanks it’s so much nicer when you can get a truck even though rough but 100% complete to start with 👍
Very nice
@@merlinmonson2133 thanks hopefully when we can get on it it will be really nice 👍
god dam !!! that's one nice old hill killer yall got there
Thanks I’m sure it’ll do the job 😂👍
G'day from Australia. Louis Kats nothing like a 3408 Cat. There is a Peterbilt 379 of a company here in Melbourne called Midway's Concrete hauling a mini B Double combination 7 axles plus the steer, 2 turntables carting concrete dust locally grossing 62 tons fully loaded. Where I work I hear it everyday & it has its own distict sound you cant help and smile & enjoy. Subscribe looking forward to the rebuild. Cheers Louis Kats 👍
Thanks for the sub gonna try to keep some videos coming can’t promise how soon though 👍
@muddycreekiron1487 👍👍👍
I’ve got a 3408 in my cabover KW in Australia. Works everyday. They are a good engine as long as you change the oil and coolant regularly and do a bearing roll every 6-7,000 hours. Subscribed and looking forward to the rebuild.
@@gm16v149 that’s cool you guys got a lot of cool old rides over there wish I could say when we are gonna get started on it we have a 63 needle nose Pete with a 318 Detroit that’s probably gonna get finished first hoping to do a video on it’s progress thanks for watchin and for the sub I gotta say it g-day 😂👍
G'day Tresdale, Haven't seen your gorgeous Cabover on the Monash Freeway for a long time. Love to see your Cabover in person, you are based in Ferntree Gully area. Everyday I see & hear Midway's Concrete 379 Peterbilt with the 3408. Work in Port Melbourne for Dyson's Transport an no matter all the noise on the Westgate when that 3408 Cat is pulling fully loaded in a mini B Double configuration it cuts through all the noise & boy you hear that Cat through all the noise & it sounds absolutely awesome. Cheers Louis Kats 👍
@@gm16v149 do you drive the blue one I've seen on TH-cam?
Wow great to connect to you sir I have watched some of your Video ! Happy new year
@ thanks for watchin hopefully I can make some better videos 😂hope the new year goes well for you also 👍
Awesome truck , 3408 has a sound all its own !
Yeah especially the e9 Mack’s they have a very distinctive sound us truck guys can here a V8 way off people will say what are you listening for 😂👍
Man what a beautiful old truck as the saying goes your never late in a V8
No doubt but you might run outta fuel first 😂👍
I miss the 1985 peterbilt 359 I used to drive.
Yeah they definitely grow on you 👍
3408 V8 The cackling’ monster beast :)
They are a beast I don’t know if it’s a cackle or purring 😂👍
@@muddycreekiron1487 Right - yours doesn't rattle - its probably due to injection pump timing...The further you advance the injection pump timing on a Cat, she starts to have a cackling rattling sound. Prematurely wears out the engine too. Too much advance.
My dad had a truck like this
@@ElvinLeadfootyeah the old 1693 dual overhead cams were the real cacklers 😂👍
@@BrittanySmith-e1tthat’s cool there were a lot at one time 👍
what is that empty filter base behind the drivers side front tire???
Not positive but I’m guessing it had another fuel filter there a lot of Pete’s had a secondary filter on the frame 👍
Lubra finer oil filter
@@lelandburks323no I don’t think they used lubrifiners after mid to late 70’s
Shes rough
Yeah it’s a little rough but it’s all there just need some love 😂👍
It's 42 years old. And it looks great
Yep only gets more beautiful with age thanks 😂👍
Nice old truck looking forward to watching you work on her I remember in your older videos you had an old white and a autocar did you ever get those done ?
Not yet did a little more to the white haven’t done any videos on them lately problem is those one are my own those one is company I work for so not as much gets done in mine 😂👍
@muddycreekiron1487 yes I understand time and money I have 4 projects out back to share time and money with. Thanks for the come back have a great new year.
@@dannyodonnell6227thanks and same to you and your projects 👍👍
Lucky enough to of run a 3408 for three years in a a model w900 with a 15 speed My engine was white tho.
That’s cool a lot of them were white from that era
One like that use to run in eastern New York
There’s still a few around but kinda like seeing an albino deer awesome but not very often 😂👍
THAT is a BABY DOLL! Like a Super Liner with an E-9. SWEET! Buddy just got a Diamond Reo with a 318 2-cycle, an air shift 5x4 and 10 ton running gear. And here I am and too geezerish to hop in anything. THANKS!
That’s cool don’t know if you’ve gone through any my other videos but I did one on a Superliner the boss got on a trade and we have a couple V8’s for it too we’re working on a 63 Pete needle nose with a 318 too problem is there all spare time projects and that’s not much thanks for watchin 👍
@@muddycreekiron1487 I herded a Pete with a 3406B and it was a BULL! Started with a 237 and ended up with R-models and 350 Macks and 12-speeds but drove a tri-axle Liner with an E-9 and a 12-speed. OH it was a thumping monster but I'm partial to all V-8's including Scanias which are kin to 3408's and E-9's, and 318's and 92 doble turbos. Looked at dog butts all my life off and on. Diesel in the veins..
@ I’m a mechanic for this company and when I started 38 years ago we were just starting to get Pete’s had a few 3406b’s but the new ones were 3406c’s but before that they were all Mack’s very similar to your story 237-300 300plus then the four valves now it’s disgusting what rolls in the door 😂👍
@@muddycreekiron1487 I've tried to answer 3 times and it left do all I can do is agree. Blessings!
@@lewiemcneely9143yeah technology isn’t all it’s cracked up to be 😂👍
The ol 3408 " Clatterpiller " as their called - factory 450 hp but have seen them turned up over 600 . Got same truck ( ol yeller ) with a 5 & 4 and 370 rears . Bought it back in 85 hauled s butt load of cows / hay . Retired now and only does parades and Sunday drives . Hard to find engine parts for these days . Will pass about ANYTHING BUT A DIESEL PUMP ..,
That’s so cool thanks for sharing it’s a shame how expensive everything is getting nowadays I think their really try to get rid of fun trucks 👍
As soon as I saw 359 and 3408 I jumped on and subscribed . I am looking forward to whatever you do with this truck .
Thanks for the sub and I’m not exactly sure what we’re doing on it yet but the boss likes things nice so I’m sure it will be cool
neighbor of mine had a truck very much like this, also had a 3408 cat. he dumped that thing because the motor ate all the profits.
Yeah unfortunately now days unless you got a super run their not economical that’s why you mostly see them at truck shows 😂👍
Wow that's a really cool rig!!
Thanks no other way to say it thanks 👍
Wish I Had the $$$ to Own it.....
@@horsepowerhorsepower3861yeah unfortunately the older they get and fewer around they go up in price 👍
Beautiful truck, the look and sound of the 3408 is so sweat.
Yeah there’s no better sound for us truck gear heads 😂👍
You can tell she's had some love in the past .
Yeah definitely and she’s in for some more hopefully 😂👍
That'll be great to see
@ thanks should be pretty cool 👍
Very nice, would love to have it. I would take good care of it, but it would earn it's keep.
Well up till now it has been earning its keep wasn’t many times I went past it and the wagon wasn’t loaded with iron 👍
The Caterpillar logo on the valve cover is a lot newer than 1983.
Yeah guessing he just added a little bling with newer valve covers 😂👍
😎💯✌👍this was one of the top set up's to drive back in the day.Its also in a movie scene with Patrick Swayze
It would’ve been pretty cool back when diesel was a under a buck cool info on the movie scene thanks 👍
Too bad no brakesaver there would be another lever under the trolly brake if it did
I never was involved with a brake saver but I’ve heard they did a lot of leaking
@@muddycreekiron1487My 3408 has got the Brakesaver. There’s a lot of O rings in the control housing and the big Brakesaver oil cooler but I wouldn’t say they are a problem, just got to replace them when you remove the oil pan when you do a bearing roll. Main thing is not to get the oil too hot, but there’s a seperate Brakesaver temp guage on the dash. Steering wheel attendants used to get them too hot. They were an O/O engine.
@@gm16v149yeah that’s the problem with a lot of these old trucks and equipment many things get left go instead of repairing 👍
I want to drive it 😊😊😊
I got to take it up the road to our body shop only a couple miles but I wasn’t rite the rest of the day😂😂👍
Gosh I love those old Peterbilts. Even cooler with a 3408. Gonna look nice when it’s all done. Best of luck with it!
Thanks these old Pete’s are hard to beat other than maybe Kenworth A model with a 3408 or a KT Cummins 😂👍
There is a fellow on youtube Badlands Bull hauler that has a sweet 359 with a ktta 19 that he still works. I hade the pleasure of him rolling up behind me on the hwy rollin coal.
That’s cool we had a lead from a Pete salesman that sold a new 359. With a KT in it but haven’t heard anything on it lately
Damm nice old Pete.
Thanks hopefully we can make it a little nicer 👍
Gonna be AWESOME when it's redone
Gr8 LARGECAR with Never Late V8
Don’t make them like that anymore 👍
