There is no mic jack, though. So no connection for external mic. .. Of course one could also use a dedicated recorder (e.g. Zoom H6) or (budget choice) a smartphone with with e.g. WAV or FLAC recording software (some smartphones have quite good mics). Of course one would need a Hollywood-style clapper to sync up the sound in editing. These are just some braistormy thoughts, have not actually gotten to do this myself yet.

+Lucie Vec <<Are there any external microphones to use?>> Nope. I carry a small digital recorder on the same bag as the camera and clip its mike to the flash shoe. Sync in the post processing with the internal soundtrack.

+Lhets Reyes Hi, I have installed the latest firmware about 10 days ago. My E700 is now on "026". I have not encountered any problems. Also not any shocking new features or software for that matter. Android is still on 4.4.2. (So no Lollipop.)

***** Thanks. Excellent question. I used 30 seconds. The (probably) good thing is that the lens does not retract every time. With 60 seconds it does. I also temporarily removed the optional DMW-LFAC1 flexible lens cap, because that, in combination with the frequent retracting (with 60s) caused slight irregularities with framing in previous, unpublished time lapse videos. BTW, I tried (but could not get to work, perhaps because I did not research well enough) to use HDR shots to make the time lapse video (as I did with my old Canon G12). So the post processing / creation of the 4K time lapse video inside the LX100 is a breeze (<10 minutes compared to many hours of work on the PC with the G12). But I missed the smoothing effect of HDR shots that I made with G12 time lapses.

Ray Kon Hi Ray. Good question. The recording sound quality of both video and sound-only recordings of the E700 is surprisingly good. You get a very spatial, stereo sound image. Of course not as natural and realistic as a dedicated sound recording device with X-positioned mics. But nevertheless very pleasant to listen to. E.g. when recording a meeting of a group of people, it becomes easier to follow who is talking, thanks to the stereo positioning. I don't do a lot of video recordings with the E700 (I have dedicated cameras that are much better, e.g. my Panasonic LX100 in 4K). But I have made many sound-only recordings of my daughter's early babbling already. Very nice to have a record of that.

ThatBulgarian Thanks for your info! I am also still very happy with it after > 8 months of use. All these new flagship phones coming out in recent months, but dual sim versions of flagships are hard to get in Europe.

+Olaf Weyer <<Still shooting analogue>> If you are a SLR shooter, you'll feel very comfortable with a DSLR. Lots out there to pick from; get one that accepts the glass you already have. OTOH, if you're a rangefinder type (Leica, Bessa, Retina, etc...) you should take a look at the brand new Fuji X-Pro2. Nothing like it; best leicalike experience below $7000, actually below $2500 including one excellent "normal" lens. Better than Leica proper, as a matter of fact. Take it from a user, leave digital Leicas to dentists and lawyers. Any decent modern camera will include remote control by means of a smartphone so you can take ground level shots without need for a tilting screen.

Fabbri Fabbri I have never owned a dedicated video camera, but I know that TH-camr PeterGregg is using his LX100 for exactly that: a backup video camera for his youtube channel. I am constantly shooting my videos in 4K (mostly my children and family). The AF is quite capable, but manual focus is also possible with the multi-purpose ring control on the lens. The only downside of 4K so far, is that you need a powerful computer and video card to edit these videos. But when just using the microHDMI-out, the results are wonderfully sharp, even noticeable on a 1080P screen. While the video quality is exceptionally good, note that there are no features such as external mic input or headphone out.

Anthony Pauwels Thanks for your experience! Yes, I often skip a day of charging if I don't use intensively. (my guideline: only charge it if battery percentage has dropped lower than 80%, but also before it drops lower than 30-40%. This keeps the battery in better shape, so I have read) If I only need it for 2 hours of (Google Maps) navigation on a day, I can easily make it to the end of the day with 30-40% left. However on days with intensive use (e.g. full day driving, long trips), I will give it some extra juice from an external battery.

There were no video reviews of this phone available at the time (only some hands-on videos, short previews). So I was quite eager to share my experiences to the world. However, I had very little time (family, full-time day job). This was a one-take video, no rehearsal, no editing.

I can imagine that you could get that idea after watching a couple of videos. All the default available wallpapers are H2O-themed (liquid), so blueish. I am a big fan of IPS screens (long before they became common). They are not so saturated, quite neutral and have good viewing angles. This screen is not much different than the other IPS screens that I own. I would say it is quite neutral, not cool, not warm. I have no complaints. Having said this, the screen is not "perfect" in every sense. A follower asked me to do a test about ghosting effects when switching between high contrast screens. I could reproduce his problem on my E700 aswell. Iris Van Dessel No, Acer Nav (TomTom) (unlike e.g. Google Maps) is completely off-line capable. Of course you will need to download the maps at home first. The only limitation that I found is that the map for Western Europe is missing from Acer Nav on the E700. With TomTom, this means that you cannot easily do cross-border navigation. So e.g. Benelux is included (NL-BE border is no problem). But Germany and France are separate maps. So as soon as you cross the NL-DE border, you need to switch maps to continue navigating. Same for the Belgium-France border. That is a typical TomTom limitation (if the Western Europe map is excluded)

v8guggi Good question. My "problem" is that I live in 2 countries, so I travel a lot. Taking the 1D3 gear with me is not always an option (e.g. 10kg hand luggage limitations). However, I have always either 1 or 2 of my 3 Speedlites in my 2 houses. I have very good experiences with using a small camera (previously Canon G12) in combination with ST-E2 and one of the Canon Speedlites. E.g. you can make very artistic dancefloor pics (without the flattening frontal-flash effect). G12 in one hand, flash with bouncer in the other, and participate in the dancing. Also, with an additional light source (light from a window) I once made a very nice series of professional looking portraits of my son, with only the G12, the ST-E2 and one Speedlite. In the mean time, I have discovered that there are many alternatives for using flash with the LX100. Since the LX100 still produces acceptable results @ISO 1600 (with the G12 this was ISO400 for my taste), I am now frequently using small LED flashlights (in combination with daylight) for ambient lighting. This has proven to be very good for baby photos (my daughter is now 3 months, I still don't want to expose here to flash - bad for the eyes, that cannot adjust so quickly yet) Flash-wise what I got working well is: - Using the LX100 with any of my 3 Canons speedlites mounted directly on the hotshoe - provided I use the manual settings on the flas (ETTL / TTL does not work) - 1/125 or 1/60 shutter speed on the LX100

None. I just keep it in my front pants pocket or jacket pocket. I considered buying one of those silicone ones (there are a lot available now), but decided not to buy, because it makes the phone bulkier and more difficult to get in and out of the pocket, because it is rubbery. There are also nice book-style cases (amazon.es, amazon.de, ebay), but also: these make the phone a lot thicker than what I like.

Thanks for your feedback. Valid point! I am trying to improve on this in new videos I received the phone before many shops started selling it. I made this video in a period where I had very little time (e.g. for editing and rehearsing), but felt the importance of sharing my thoughts to people considering the phone that was about to come out in many countries.

Yes, I have successfully tested and already used several times Acer Navigator (a rebranded version of TomTom). Did you already install the update? My App version is 1.14GT.M2.0.18. I got prompted to update. Updates goes outside of the Google Play store, so a bit unconventional.
