Hey Harvey, are these positions applicable to an international audience as well? Thank you.
Hi there! Thanks so much for your comment, I would say most definitely are although some counties may have differing infrastructures that make some roles more accessible. Where are you based? 😊
@ thanks for the quick reply,I’m based in South Africa.
Amazing! I have done some searching and I can see there’s a lot of crossover in Industries between the UK and SA, especially in industrious jobs and even emerging technology in the Education sector (EdTech), referring to the AI segment in the video. Of course I can only really comment from a UK perspective as that’s where I’m based, but it seems that a lot of skills/experience gained in education and employment in SA would transfer nicely to employment in the UK, within the roles in the video 😊
@ Thanks for the feedback.

Does this also apply to big bands?
Yup every but the hybrid/remote is In My offer letter, the position when you apply on indeed it doesn't even tell how much an hour
That’s good everything is there! It’s worth checking about the working from home if that’s something you’d be wanting. It’s so annoying when the pay isn’t disclosed! 🙃 congrats on your offer btw!
@@Harvey_Emerson appreciate you but no I can't be cooped up on a remote job I'm only

What if you get a offer letter?
Hi! If you get an offer letter then you’ve definitely smashed it in your application! I would recommend carefully reading over the content to make sure you’re happy with it all, checking it matches what was advertised. I do have a short on what to make sure you do before accepting an offer, if that’s of use! 🙌

Thanks for the video. This is the question I'm usually most comfprtable with because I like how I articulate it. I structure my answer by saying that when I look for a position I need to tick 3 important boxes: The company, the product they make (I'm an engineer who needs to be proud of what I design), the job description. Then for each of these aspects I explain why it is a good fit to me.
Hi! It is my pleasure, thanks for your comment! That sounds like a great structure, thank you for sharing! 💯 What area of engineering is your focus? 🙌

Had a interview last week had good signs. 1emailed them asking if they hire someone’s and told them still interested got a call and email telling me to bring my resume down had a interview.2. I've never heard of a recruiting agency sending off CVs without your permission, hopefully they don't send it to your existing company 😅
Hey! A lot of recruiters send out CVs anonymously to bring on new business, but that only involves taking out the sensitive bits (name, address, contact details). Most hiring managers can tell if they’ve received a CV already because of the experiences on there! Omg…Couldn’t think of anything more awkward than the existing company getting it 😬😂

one question which always came in my mind is - How can an individual play an important or outstanding role in making his company a top player in market lets say an engineering construction company.. what are contributions which can lead to faster growth of company from an employees perspective who wish to skyrocket his own career path also in the journey.. which books would be essential around this topic...
Hi Mohib, thanks for your comment! This is an interesting one… I think it greatly depends on the seniority of the position and the size of the organisation. You are likely to have a more significant contribution to business growth if you’re closer to the executive board (and therefore given more responsibility and autonomy) within a small business (where your impact will be more visible/more notable). It’s not to say that you can’t make an impact/grow the business significantly within a junior position and/or a large company, but it’s certainly easier with the above! At least to have your work seen… I also think a big part of it is showing yourself as an innovator, by maybe talking about achievements that make you stand out from others, relating to how you grew revenue, customer base, a team etc. if you can show that you would follow a job specification, but also add your own unique contributions, that’s going to make you stand out as a solid candidate. This is especially prominent in engineering, like you mention! If you have more experience and a deep knowledge of the market and how competition is operating then that’s something to show off. I don’t know too many specific books on this from an employee perspective as most of them (from my research) are targeted towards business owners, such as “Built to Grow” (Royston Guest). But yes this is a great discussion point. Are you interviewing at the moment? 🙌
@@Harvey_Emerson Insightful 😊 it means a lot !! I am job searching at present so a senior told me all jobs mostly require strong communication skills so watching lectures here on TH-cam regarding it and searching for books around this topic.. what do you believe is the possible impact of communication skills on our growth in career..
Amazing! Good luck in your search! 🙌 communication is such an important skill to develop through your entire career. It’s a soft skill, so it’s importance is usually understated, but to be able to communicate effectively to all your colleagues/customers/prospects etc is going to pay dividends in your career. Especially being able to tailor your communication techniques based on why you are talking to! 🙌
@@Harvey_Emerson Thanks a Ton !! 💛
Thanks so much for watching! If you are wondering how and when to follow up after your interview, this video may be helpful! th-cam.com/video/iA2iFwob-LU/w-d-xo.html Have a great day :)
Had a interview a week ago. It was an online interview & 3 people interviewed me. It was allotted to be 1 hour, and it ran for 1 hour. I think it was rushed towards the end, but they gave me plenty of time for questions and answered them with details. The hiring manager where the position will be working with gave me a tour of the lab via a PPT and showed me photos of the lab team that I'd work with in the company. All of them gave positive feedback throughout the interview. One of them was interested in the research I've done in undergrad, while the other two managers gave me positive feedback throughout the interview process. Questions weren't too technical, but they were more related to my personal value and who I am besides my experiences. The hiring manager also told me timelines in fair detail & planned to contact my references this week. Are these positive signs?
Hey! Thanks so much for your comment and congrats for absolutely smashing your interview (by the sound of it!!). Everything you have listed there sounds VERY promising. Whilst of course there are no guarantees, I particularly picked out the parts where they showed you the team and mentioned your referees. Unless they collect references for all candidates, it is an administrative task that the employer wouldn’t typically complete without interest in your application. Even if it is unsuccessful in the end, you should be very pleased with the process considering it sounds so good. Interviews can be very daunting and getting practice is always beneficial. Regarding the timeframe, I wouldn’t be to concerned as to not hearing, as there can be lots of reasons why they haven’t got back. If you have time, feel free to check out my video on following up after an interview, as this explores those reasons. Just keep positive and your options open! Sorry for such a massive reply, but hope you get some good news!! Even if not, one door closes and another opens 🙌 Best of luck, would love to know how you get on 🤞
I had an interview for a technical preparation job for production about a year ago, technical education(Engineering) is an advantage, paying minimum wage, that's about 500€ a month after taxes. All smiles and everything from people, asking me when I'm ready to start, I seem like a perfect fit, so on. I learnt from a friend working there that a person with no experience or education related to the job(regular high school instead of vocational school+trade) got the job instead of me. I applied to a Technology Technician job this April, had 3 rounds of interviews(2 on Teams, 1 onsite), first meeting in May with 3 people, second Teams meeting in early June had management and actual shift leads in as well, a week later on the onsite interview it was the same people, asked how much I've been thinking about, told them a number, I got brought on a tour around the place, promised an answer in a week, 2 weeks passed and I figured I didn't get the job, the next Monday I get a call saying that the people that inverviewed me were doing interviews for multiple positions due to people from other departments being on holiday and they'll send me an offer in a day or two. I get the offer, straight up 10% more money than what I asked for... I'm starting on the 15th.
average salary after tax per year for average jobs
Ooo interesting one, thanks for commenting! Stay tuned 🙌
It's not too desperate or "stalky" to follow up, is it?
Hi there, thanks for your comment and great question! I don’t think it is, but there is definitely a line. Following up once or twice, especially if you have invested a significant amount of time in the process, is understandable if you haven’t heard for a long time. It can show as well that you’re invested and keen to develop professionally if you are seeking feedback - an attractive trait for a prospective employer. I do think there are levels to this, however. Spamming them many times for an answer may irritate the employer as, in most cases, they will have a valid reason for not updating you yet (as mentioned in the vid). It may also get them to question your motivations for wanting to join. There is definitely merit to following up, just not over doing it! I hope this helps!
Salary should be in the job ad to begin with. If it doesn't, it might be a red flag.
A fair point well made!
If an interviewer worries what you might say about them, if they badmouth their last employer. Maybe the new employer has to give the employee nothing uh badmouth them about and be a better employer than the last one.
Don't say "How's it hanging?"
Very good suggestion! 😂
I had an interview where I couldn't read how it went. Two people interviewed me. One was raving about my experience and resume and how impressive it was. He was excited to engage with me. The other gave nothing, seemed a bit stern and very business-like. Nothing I said or did seemed to impress him. He was hard to read. Ended up not getting the job, as it turns out the stern guy is the superior manager, and the friendly guy was an offsider.
Hi there, thanks for sharing and whilst I am sorry to hear you weren’t successful, this is an interesting story! This happens a lot, where some interviewers are more friendly and approachable, whilst others on the panel are slightly colder. Never helps when mixed messages are given to us when interviewing! I hope the job search is/has gone well since 😊
haha, classics
@stonesfan285 Yes, I am getting plenty of interviews but few jobs.

My 3rd round was on the 19th last week. I was told from the Director and the Senior Dev that I'd hear back with a decision "Early next week". As we are approaching mid-week (the 26th) I have been thinking about drafting a follow-up email or call tomorrow morning. What does anyone think the best action would be? Stay silent? Follow-up email first thing in the morning? Give the Corporate Recruiter a follow-up call? Thanks for any advice ~~
Hi there! Thanks for your comment, firstly congrats on making it through to the third round! Regardless of the outcome, that clearly shows you’re a strong interviewee to get through that many stages. I would recommend following up, as you want to showcase that you’re still interested. It is worth giving the recruiter a follow up call, and then send an email to reinstate what you said on the phone. I wouldn’t normally advise sending too many follow ups within earlier rounds, but by the sound of it you have invested significant time In this company. Showing that you’re still interested and engaged with the hiring process even at later stages will show green flags for the interviewers. I hope this helps and fingers crossed you hear good news! As I’ve said in other comments on this vid, there are many possible reasons why you haven’t heard yet. Good luck 💯
had a 2-hour interviews that went a bit longer overall a good vibe although I fumbled a few questions. hoping for good news soon.
That sounds very promising! Wishing you the best of luck, hope good news comes your way 🙌
@@Harvey_Emerson interviewer says to me at the end of my interview Good I will share your details with hr This means?
This sounds very promising! In most businesses HR will be in charge of your onboarding/gathering further information (or an internal recruitment team). They wouldn’t typically bother sharing details with HR unless there was some interest there! Of course I wasn’t there so can’t confirm for sure, but that sounds very promising! Good luck, please let me know how you get on 🙌
Had an apprenticeship interview and I’m a little confused and concerned, was asked one technical question to which I had to say “I don’t know”, but I was also given a tour first thing and intros to everybody, as well as asking about where I live and how I’ll commute and my availability to work, also let me ask questions and the interview went on for an hour, told me about the next steps & how they’d get back to me by Friday and about my final round interview and I got along well with both interviewers often laughing with them at some points, however I’m still very concerned that I won’t be able to get the job as they never brought up salaries or company values nor did they try to sell me on the job and I’m worried that in spite of the good signs that these bad signs might outweigh it :(
Hi! Thanks for your comment 🙌 From what I’m reading, that sounds like a very positive interview and whilst it’s easier said than done, try not to overthink it! It’s reassuring that they’ve mentioned a final round interview, as they probably wouldn’t bother discussing this if they’re not interested. They could be saving talks about salary in the next round! It’s funny, I actually had a very similar experience when I applied for my apprenticeship position! I had a second interview and salary wasn’t discussed until the end of that meeting. If you are counting more positives than negatives after, that is a really good sign! In your final interview, I would recommend really highlighting how interested you are in the position and the company in the long term as companies are looking to mould apprentices and look after them over the long run. If you can show this in your interview you could be on to a winner! I always say, even if you unfortunately don’t get this role, a positive interview will always be good experience for when the next opportunity becomes available. In future interviews you will be going in with experience 🙌 Sorry for a massive reply, but hope it goes well! Please keep me updated if you remember, it would be great to know 💯
@@Harvey_Emerson Hi, thank you so much for the comment I seriously appreciated it!! It put me at ease I was given a letter of acceptance today and will be having my second round interview soon :)
No problem at all and Good luck! I’m sure you will smash it 🙌
Is it really true that if you don't hear back within 2-3 days, you're most likely not going to get the job as there're better candidates than you? I had a recent interview which I think was pretty average and I think I could have answered at least some of the questions much better and he rarely asked any follow up question. When I asked questions about the role and next steps, the interviewer gave very specific details around the role expectation and talked about my involvement in the next round which specific people I'm going to talk to. A bit confused now as there're mixed signs.
Great question. By the sound of it you had a very positive interview, especially if they’re talking about the next round! There are many reasons why there could be delays in getting an update to you, so maybe don’t read too much into it (although I appreciate this is definitely easier said than done!). For example, if the company has other candidates to see that may be over the next couple days, they’d likely wait until they’ve seen all candidates before giving you an update. Or they could be discussing and agreeing next steps and waiting to confirm. Sometimes no news is good news! As I’ve said in other videos, even if you unfortunately don’t get an offer this time, having a good interview is great experience regardless. It will make you more confident in the next one! As one door closes another opens 🙌 Sorry for the massive comment, but please let me know how it goes!
@@Harvey_Emerson Thanks! Keeping my fingers crossed. I've just became your 100th subscriber :)
Ahh thank you so much!! I really appreciate that ❤️ 100 is a milestone for me, I won’t forget that! 🙌
Interviews recently are all by teams. So its impossible to do an office tour.
Good point! So many companies are still utilising online interviews, guess it’s a lot easier. From what I’ve seen, many companies will invite candidates for an office tour during a second interview if the first was a remote interview 🙌
Why is every video as if you are getting an office job ?
Hi Mark, thanks for your comment! My bad the stock footage is probably way too office focused! 😅 Although I would say that all the points here would still relate to any other interview process, from construction to engineering to agriculture etc. Of course the only difference from the vid would be a factory/site tour instead of an office. I can definitely make that clearer in future videos though so thank you 🙌
They gave all the positive things you mentioned, also showed me their office tour. But they told they will call me in a week. Now even after me sending a follow up email a week later, they didn't respond me.
@@smackyou4586Okay, by the sound of it you’ve delivered a great interview, which is definitely not easy. See what the verdict is, they could just be weighing up options! Good idea following up, maybe if you still haven’t heard within a few days then give them a call to show your interest. I’d be careful of overdoing it, so an email and a call/second email is a good option. There are lots of reasons for why they’re delaying a response, but sometimes no news is good news and you will find out soon enough. If it does end up unsuccessful, I’d suggest you ask for feedback. If you’re receiving all these signs, you will no doubt have an offer coming soon! One door closes another opens 🙌 Sorry for the info overload, but hope it goes well and this helps!
@@Harvey_Emerson Brother! I think you have some power! I got the job man! They just called me! I'm surprised, everything happened surreal✨
That’s amazing news!!! Congrats brother! What a way to start the weekend! 🙌
What if you got only one or two of the signs mentioned here?
Great question, thanks for commenting! Noticing any of these signs in an interview is promising, and will hopefully give you reassurance that the interview went well (or at least better than you first thought!). Even if you aren’t successful for a role, noticing some of these signs will show that you delivered a good account of yourself, showing you’re on the right lines and that an offer will be coming soon with future interviews 🙌 Hope this helps, and if you have a moment please consider subscribing as I will be uploading another video soon on signs an interview didn’t go well!
@stonesfan285 very solid advice🙌

So helpful!
Thanks so much!! 🙌
You looking good with an informative video as always. How do you do it??
Haha thank you! Really appreciate the support 🙌
Would you suggest going to uni then?
If you have a specific career plan that requires a specialist degree (dentistry, law etc.) in mind I think Uni is a really good option! The social side and connections you make with other students can’t be understated as well! If you are unsure of what to do at this stage, it may be worth exploring multiple options such as apprenticeship pathways or trainee routes 🙌
