LS lifter trick - How to fit LS7 lifters with the heads on! (in the car)
มุมมอง 11K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Something I tried on my own LS just to see if it could be done, always have and always will pull the heads on customer jobs to vac test the heads and fit new guides. The main thing I have to say is fitting the valve springs with the heads on is harder work and took longer than changing the lifters this way, so if you’ve done that before, this should give you an idea of what you’re up against. My first time tearing into a skyline transfer case for a look, with only a few forum posts for ideas it wasn’t the most time efficient job but you can see the process nevertheless. The 2 extra friction plates required cost around $55 each from Nissan here in Australia. Other than that you just need some silicone and time. VE SS 6L J pipe before and after - budget exhaust mods part 2 - fixing the drone!
มุมมอง 14K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Little video I made trialling some cheap J pipes (or helmholtz resonator) I bought for my L98 VE SSV Ute. The conclusion is they muffle the exhaust note more than I expected, and almost completely removed the cabin drone which was quite bad before. I think the next step will be to make some decat pipes to try and get some volume back in the exhaust and see if it still sounds good inside and out...

hi there- nice video and thanks for sharing! question: is it okay for an r34 gtr to be towed backwards with only the front wheels on the ground? my car was unfortunately towed like this and now i'm worried damage was done to the tcase (or at least ware to the clutch discs in the tcase)- but i've heard a lot of mixed opinions on if damage would have actually occurred- car seems to drive fine thus far but i left it parked after i got it back- thanks again.
That was what..2500 in parts?
did you happen to have a mod list for this car at all? 99% sure we are the new owners 😂
This is some ninja type sh1t bud.
Thanks mate
Thanks for the video. I attempted this and when I pulled the front cover off the clutch hub front bearing came with the front cover. In your video it stayed on the center drive shaft. With your experience do you think I should remove the bearing from the front cover and press it back on the drive shaft?
Agreed with another poster; it's much easier to pull the heads than put the car on a lift, drop the oil pan, pull the timing cover, and expose the reciprocating assembly. Talk about penny wise and pound foolish!
Correct, I do that regularly, it’s my job. This was for the fun of it to see if I could do it, it was getting a rebuild not long after this video (and it did) so I knew I was going to be replacing the lifter trays soon anyway. I would never do a cam and lifters without putting the vehicle on a lift, removing the pan and replacing the oil pump/timing components and clean/reseal everything, so I don’t really understand what you’re doing anyway. Backyard jobs??
Nice video ! 👏 Did you have by chance the part number for the extra plates that needs to be added ? Can't fin it.
Is removing the T case from the transmission as straight forward as just removing the ones around the casing ? Or has something to do with the shift selector rod ? Thanks
There is two hidden bolts behind shifter hole that hold case in too need to be removed, shifter link likely requires removing which accessible at same time here
Did you have any issues mounting this manifold at all? I’m having issues with the runners hitting the studs and other things even with trimmed studs
It fits well? I am thinking trying to stuff my td06h-25g greddy on the stock manifold with a kunigawa turbine housing on it.
ute sounds awesome m8y...hopefully that magnetism thingy doesnt flow through to the pipes and suck everything out...hopefully....🤣😂
Great vid, for some reason i thought inside was way more complex, still dont know exactly how oil travels to lock/unlock the transfer
Cheers✌️That comes from the atessa system which is mounted in the rear of the car (fluid reservoir in the boot) and pressurises/actuates a slave cylinder on the back of the transfer case! It has a slave cylinder and fork pushing on the clutch packs much like the clutch on the back of the engine
its basicly a wet clutch
If i had mistakenly driven the car low on transfer oil, what parts could i have hurt? The fiber/steel plates? I guess i could replace them and build a setup like you did...
Depends how long for, the plates hold oil so they probably would deal with it for a bit, but the bearings and oil pump/chain may not like it for a long period of time
@@Dan34R i drove around 2-4 km at varying low speed since i just rebuilt the engine max 50km/h.
@@jasaircraft it’ll be fine!
@@Dan34Rtoday i managed to remove the transfer case filler plug as it was stuck. Oil was on level but looks old (dark brown). Both the transfer case and the attesa reservoir use the same d-matic oil right?
Cool, I was wondering if this coud be done. Might be time& cost effective for replacing just one or two lifters. You coud pull valvecover and push lifter out from there if afraid of magnetizing parts I think.
From the day I filmed this video to today, this car and all these components have been daily driven every day by me and the new owner and have had no issues at all, it still comes to me for a dyno tune occasionally when he makes changes. So I can’t say I’m overly afraid.
nice build. which Clutch master cylinder setup did you use? Thank you
Was a custom made pedal using a vy commodore master and remote reservoir
I just noticed you live in Launceston do you still own the car
Nah! I kept the running gear and sold the shell 5+ years ago
@@Dan34R oh yeah i'm thinking about getting a 180sx or a R34 saden as my first car since their kinda cheap do you still live in launceston ?
Did you measure the plate thickness to insure it was within tolerance? I did not see you check that in the video.
Nope, they don’t require preload so I’ll just run them down to nothing and replace them when I slip it and fry them completely 👍
BTW, LOVE those wheels!
tasmanian devil
Nice...what cover plate (H Gate) is that your using? Looks billet?
Sorry for the delay. It’s a ppg sequential transmission
Just magnetised the lifters…. Great job 😂
Only the rollers, it’ll help suck the lifters back down and prevent valve float. Oh look now there’s 2 stupid comments on here 🤦♂️
@@Dan34R And it looks like there will be more Why not take the heads off and change lifter trays as well, literally the one thing that’s plastic and fails, why not do some cheap insurance I could go on but it seems you don’t take well to criticism 😂 No skin here
And it’s not only the rollers that will be magnetised If you knew how lifters are manufactured and the last process they go threw you might have a clue 🕵️♀️
@@costagiourtis2531 The trays have been replaced, the engine was coming out/apart later to be upgraded. I always do pull the heads and replace them, this was purely to see if it could be done. Do you really think a magnet as weak as that will put a lasting charge into those lifters in that time? Do you do this on every single video where people use magnets to remove lifters, buckets, valve collets etc? You must have more spare time than I do
@@Dan34R Nah only cause you’re using the lifters that you placed in with a magnet If they were the old ones then fair enough but… can’t argue with stupid
What ecu is he running? If you know/remember

SEXY BUILD BRO 😍😍…. Just wondering I’ve got a r34 sedan aswell n have bought the r32 r200LSD with 5bolt axles will that fit in bro?
It will depend on what model of r34 you have and whether it’s an abs r32 diff, this 4 door was a gt-v and has a long nose diff with a single speed sensor (same as r32 with abs) so it was a straight swap. R34 gtt and gt4 have a short diff with 2 abs sensors on the output shafts which is the same as gtr, z32 etc.
@@Dan34R gtv as in the non turbo one? I have a non turbo one but chucking in a rb25 in it
@@kingkumar650 correct yes. Yeah nice
@@Dan34R oh yo sweet as so it’ll bolt straight up thanks for the help man appreciate it 👍🏽
@@kingkumar650 If it is an abs r32 diff yes, however I did forget to mention you’ll need new bolts for the front mounts and solid bushes in the subframe for the rear mounts and swap the covers over, to do it properly.

Hey Dan, trying to replicate this build in a way and would love to know if the r154 was remote or not and how well the stick suited the stock plastics? cheers.
It was a non remote box with jzx81 engine mounts, it never had a manual surround for the console but it fitted the hole in the tunnel neatly and the rubber boot that came with the gearbox (maybe jzx81?) bolts up to the tunnel with 2 factory bolt holes and the other 2 need to be drilled. All in all fits well once done but the tunnel ideally is too small, this one got lots of hammering and the box is spaced down a little which isn’t ideal.
Never thought I’d see that
Have had 2 SS commodore' s, VU SS ute & VE SS sedan. Both had true duals(no x pipe) Neither had any drone.
yep...same.
*509 hp for anyone else like me wondering ;)
You provide a noble service kind sir
Easier to pull the heads.
But cheaper to not. No bolts and gasket.
and retain the factory seal on the heads... worth it
Love your work
Great video, how’d you get the sump off?
Cheers, just lift the motor up about 30mm and it comes straight off
bro how is your engine so smooth sounding?? hands down smoothest sounding LS I've ever heard good fkn job
I made another video on merging the exhaust into a single pipe, that’s what smooths them right out, car was completely standard other than all that. Got a full system and supercharger now and sounds even better 😅
Hey mate, great exhaust, you know where i can get them for mate for my ute?
Yeah mate eBay is the easiest place

Just take the heads off.
In the second clip, was the engine built? Like cams etc. Or was it stock, with turbo upgraded
Stock engine both times all I changed was the turbo kit
Hows the fuel consumption bro?
I honestly can’t remember back that far. Been years since I had that car. They generally aren’t great though, 450km to a tank of petrol would be a big number
