Death and brutality-the battle for West Africa’s largest salt deposit
The peaceful town of Ada has become a flashpoint for violent clashes over the control of the Songor Lagoon, West Africa’s largest salt deposit.
The current tensions began in 2020 when Electrochem Ghana Limited, owned by businessman Daniel McKorley (McDan), was granted control of the lagoon under a controversial lease agreement endorsed by the government and Ada Traditional Council. This move, opposed by artisanal salt miners (the main producers of salt in the area) and many residents, has led to violent confrontations, with accusations of brutality, land encroachment, and a monopoly over community resources.

Addressing the Gender Gap in Ghana's Parliament
มุมมอง 281หลายเดือนก่อน
The gender gap in Ghana's Parliament remains a critical issue that requires immediate attention. Despite some progress in recent years, women continue to be significantly underrepresented in the country's legislative body. This lack of gender diversity not only hampers the development of inclusive policies but also perpetuates inequalities in decision-making processes. As of 2024, only 40 women...
Forest Invasion: Minerals Commission, EPA unaware of Ghana's Forestry Master Plan
มุมมอง 4462 หลายเดือนก่อน
The ironies and contradictions surrounding the passage of LI 2462, its implementation, and supposed benefits are legion. The most glaring of all is that it contradicts the country's 20-year Forestry Development Master Plan, which was developed in 2016. The master plan targeted a 60 per cent reduction in mining activities in Ghana’s forest reserves by 2020, with an ultimate ambition to completel...

EPA lacks the capacity to enact Law to regulate mining in forest reserves - Lawyer
มุมมอง 2.3K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
An environmental lawyer, specialising in forestry regulation, Clement Akapame, points out that the basis for the passage of LI2462 is questionable, because the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which championed its passage, has no mandate to push for a law that regulates mining in forest reserves.
Did the Government of Ghana pass the mining law to benefit its cronies?
มุมมอง 1.3K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
However, under the law, the President has the authority to allow mining and prospecting in these forest reserves if he deems it necessary in the national interest. Records from the Minerals Commission indicate that there was a surge in applications for mining concessions in the forest reserves from June 2022, when the LI was presented to Parliament. Some media reports, corroborated by satellite...

The Electrochem company has sponsored bots in the comment section that are talking about hearing from the side of Electrochem and that Electrochem has done good jobs in the community and the bots are also praising Electrochem. A simple look at the profile pictures and the names in addition to the similarity of all those comments is all the proof you need. Just ignore those bots as they’re not real humans typing those comments. That alone shows that there is a lot they are covering up and don’t want people to know the atrocities they have committed and still committing. May the blood of those innocent people who lost their lives fight them one by one. I really feel sorry for these communities.

Its funny how Electrochem paid for bot ad in the comments section 😅
Just to know how guilt elctrochem is, just look at how electrochem have hired bots to be commenting in the comments section
Hmmm the woman who was dragged and filmed almost naked.... ahhhh in her own neighborhood.
Most politicians n rich people in Africa and wicked.
Masa Ghanaians should stop complaining if they are not ready to vote for NKB They should continue with NPP AND NDC sia fo)
Why are Africans so cruel and wicked against our own brothers and sisters? Most of our African brothers and sisters sell our own people to strangers, and kill each other for the interest and benefit of strangers, why? When are our people going to start uniting, by pulling our resources for the betterment, present and future prosperity for all our people and communities? This is so sad and tragic.
What's interesting is whoever is behind the astroturfing or information manipulation in the comment section. Lots of comments demanding Electrochem's side of the story are coming from fake accounts with unintelligible names, seemingly Arab, all sharing the same message with little variation. It's good to consider other perspectives, but this attack is obviously aimed at foiling the aim of this documentary. Don't waste your time replying to these fake accounts or get derailed from appreciating the revelations shared in this documentary.
This report is too one-sided. I was nearly swayed until I watched other videos like this. th-cam.com/video/k9xES9mH64s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tlkZHDzSPfeVwidE
What is the head and tail of this documentary ..... is it the resistance ???
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I can't stop weeping for this guy and others who suffered coz of this Songor issue. There's a portion which the natives depends on. Why won't you leave that small portion for them to cease all this?
nbs bot replies in the comments section

The chiefs betrayed their own people. This would never happen in Ashante region... Sad reality of corruption.

This very sad for my people....npp never again....
Power will soon change hands and people will be brought to book.
So what are the chiefs doing about these problems.
People must listen first because it is their own chives who went to beg for the lagoon to be saved. The fight did not start today. Is the people's own greed that has caused these problems.
Akofo Addo is a very cruel person
This is a very nice documentary but please don't be biased about this issue. The way this documentary is structured paints ElectroChem and McDan to be some evil corporation hell bent on profit and nothing else. Meanwhile that is not the case. A little research on this issue will show you the terrible condition the lagoon was in. If some the locals were not careless and greedy to indiscrimately mine salt this would not have happened. Again, the story is not one sided looking at how Electrochem was founded and swiftly took control over the lagoon tells us that this plan had been in the works for quite some time. I believe there is a middle ground here, one which you are failing to explore. I would implore you to revise your documentary, to not take sides. Be objective as you claim to be, because this story is not as balanced as it could be although I will definitely commend you on your efforts
It a big shame from the government and those selfish greedy chiefs.
Those White's are probably benefiting from this atrocities. Even if you want to establish a business in a community. The opinion of the community will be heard since this land belongs to the people of the community.
Thank you and God bless you ❤
Just listen to this commissioner, no accountability, no empathy, how do they even get into these positions?
Ghana needs a leader who is just. A leader who truly cares to make a difference for the people of the country and not themselves. Leaders and subordinates all Come into power to steal. Why?
So sad
My people, pls negotiate peacefully ensuring that Ada community and electrochem coexist.
As a Ghanaian, I’m so ashamed of this current government. I’m afraid the opposition is not any better either. May God help my fellow Ghanaians who are not born with a silver spoon or have evil and corrupt family members in government.
Electrochem's community role is important. Include their view.
Electrochem's voice is crucial for a fair story.
A close examination of those asking for the electrochem side to be heard or for the fourth estate to report fairly look like an internet bot or machine fake news spreaders. they are repetitive and use they same kinds of words and patterns. This clearly shows the evil Bawumia internet guys he has recruited to publish fake news are at work
Balance the narrative by including Electrochem's perspective.
Electrochem's impact in Ada is significant. Please report it.
Thank you, Electrochem, for your community work. Let's hear from you.
A balanced story should feature Electrochem's side.
Electrochem's achievements deserve to be heard. Include them.
May the fallen patriots rest in peace. NKB #12 needs to see this documentary. A potential win- win for both inhabitants and investor, with better consultation of stake holders and sound government policy, thereafter. Will be great to hear Electrochem's side also.
