CARF Models Rebel Max - Giant 3 meter wingspan Turbine
Nice flying. Just FYI, the markings on the vertical stabs go on the outboard surface, not the inboard. Other than that, looking forward to seeing what your planned mods do for its performance. What effect do you think putting some small squares of screen door screen over the intakes would have? If it would have a negligible effect on performance, it would give a somewhat more scale appearance, I think.
will this save the trims in different flight modes?
Yes. As long as you set up independent trims per flight modes.
Hi, Nice video. I have a problem: I set everything as you did but the thr instead of going in the opposite direction to the activation of the switch slows down and then accelerates in the same direction. Can you help me please? What do I need to change to reverse direction? Thank you
In my video, ch7 triggers the esc for reverse thrust. So it seems like everything works but it isn't triggering reverse thrust. Did reverse thrust work before? Without my fancy stuff did reverse thrust work the regular way? If you haven't tried, there may be that issue where you have to lower the Min Max on the outputs page. Try creating a new model without any of my mixes and try the reverse thrust the normal way. If it still doesn't work, you may have to go to outputs and play with the Min Max values until it does work. The values that I have seen work is -78% and 78% as I said in the video. If it works in normal mode. Then you probably have a switch direction reversed. For example, the momentary switch. When you assign that switch in logical switch, you need to hold that switch down when you assign it and WHILE holding it down, exit the menu. You should see a down arrow next to the switch. Look at your logical switch for Rev thrust safe. It should turn on when your throttle is enabled and
@@all_rc Everything is set up like in your video. The ESC was previously mounted on another fixed wing aircraft and it worked. Now it no longer works to operate the reverse thrust. I don't know where I'm wrong
Go to your outputs page. Does ch7 change directions when you hit the rev switch with your throttle enabled?
@@all_rc a curiosity: Could I also set another channel other than 7?
Any channel that your rev lead is plugged into from your esc
Just be very careful about getting this. I was supplied with an FrSKY X18+this module, with prior to delivery all correct s/w versions installed, TX recognised the module, so ready to go...except that NONE of my old FrSKY (ACCST), generic SFHSS OR DSM2 receivers - 5 different models - would bind. I tried everything I could think of, but nope, lovely new transmitter, module installed, just an expensive door stop. Whatever happened to stuff just working?😢
It does work. Do other receivers work or does it not work at all? Can you check a couple of things.. confirm your module is called IRX4 Lite. There are other modules that look almost the same but they are for different protocols. Make sure that the light on the module is on. Confirm that the pins on the back of the radio where the module plugs in are straight and not bent. I saw one person try to force the module on and bent one of the pins. I never used SFHSS. But for ACCST, use either Frsky X or X2 protocol in the radio. Depends on wether the receiver is ACCST V1 or 2. For DSM, I haven't had much luck recently with AUTO so I try each protocol in the radio once at a time.
@@all_rc Hi - this was all supplied as a supposedly working combo by a UK supplier. And, on your advice, when I just took the module off, one of the pins had been bent when he mounted the module! So, I guess I should have had a look first, but I'm old school. When someone supplies me something that will work out of the box, I assume it will😦 I will send this back and see whether he can supply a working setup next time!
Sorry - forgot to say that the X18 was delivered to me with the module fitted by the supplier, so he bent the pins(!) Thanks for your reply - very useful and helpful.
I find your videos extremely helpful. Your approach and detail is spot on. Thank you!
you dont need a gyro
Yep, doesn't have one. I don't normally run gyros but I finally installed one in my T33 just to see the difference. And it does make a difference. In stabilize mode (same as AS3X on Spektrum) it does noticably smooth out a flight especially in gusty conditions. Next test is on this plane or my Rafale to check how it helps for high alpha flights.
I have one of these and I love it! It can handle a great deal of wind 10-15mph. NO JOKING. I had mine flying backwards with safe on an into a 15mph wind, just the other day, Hit the gas and hang on tight! You will be impressed but the high speed and glider speed. Just don't let it get two far away you can lose sight of it in a head on orientation. What a blast! E-Flight hit an out of the park bases loaded home run with this plane.
Right on the money!
I’ve been dying to hear something about the thermal capabilities of this glider, among others. I’ve been out of the hobby for over a decade. Fascinated with the vario and altimeter telemetry systems now!
It thermals pretty well. Not quite as good as something like my old Goldberg Electra but it is very nice to thermal for a bit then have a screamer in the same flight. The stock receiver on the concsendo does not have a vario. I run Frsky gear and they do have a receiver with a built in vario. Works very well and the same sensor can do altitude and vario functions. The stock spektrum receiver in the concsendo does have a ton of telemetry including G Force, current draw and battery voltage level.
Not sure I trust them plastic claws that hold the wing struts to the bottom of the fuse. That part of the strength I want it a bit more beefy. Still think I'll get one though 👍🏾
I think for the size of the plane, they are fine. If the plane was bigger, I'd want a better retention system
Take the trunion out of the front stock retract. Get a drill bit the same size as the head of the A10 80mm retract pin. VERY carefully countersink drill the hole in the trunion checking each time until you have it deep enough to allow the head of the pin to go inside the trunion and stick out the other end to mount the nose gear on it. You may need to file a flat spot onto the pin for the grub screw. No need for sprite cans, fits tight as if it was made that way from E-Flite.
I cannot access these buttons as a menu option when I am making logical switches. I've got V1.5.8 loaded on a Twin X Lite. Got them setup as a 4x2pos switch. And want to make logical switch when combinations of them are true. Any ideas? Also, is there a way to adjust/dim the blue LEDs on these switches? Very bright indoors in the evening.
I just tried it. What logical switch are you trying? I did the AND switch and with 6x2pos switch, I can select it for Value 1 or Value 2 just fine. I wouldn't use 2pos switches, I would use momentary. Much more controllable with logic switches. But 2 position switches are selectable. I doubt that function switches work different on your Twin Lite.... I am aware that you cannot use a function switch as a source in mixes but they should work fine in logical switches. Let me know exactly where and what logical switch you are trying and I'll try it on my radio
@@all_rc I did get it working by the way you described. Thanks for the pointers. EdgeTx only allowed these as a single 6POS switch so this is a little new. My experiment was to have L01 enabled by holding 1&4 for 3 seconds. That would be the throttle enable condition. Then holding 2&3 (L02) for three seconds would be the throttle cut. Just a learning experiment. Would love to be able to dim the blue LEDs when I am inside.
Yeah, don't think you can dim those buttons unfortunately
Thanks. Enjoying these. Dumb question... what does the red slider (center low) do? I can't find a description of it.
Anything you want! Think of it as one of the side sliders or the knobs at the top of your radio. You can do general radio stuff like volume or screen brightness. Or it can control a surface like flaps or even elevator if you are brave!
@@all_rc Thank you! Saving up my $$$ for one. I love sliders for variable gain or rate adjustment.
Really appreciate your videos as a Spectrum convert to FrSky. Can you do a video on programming the momentary switch as a two position for "Engine Off" with a flick but "Engine On" by holding the momentary switch 1.5 seconds. Thank you.
That's almost the same as my "A Different Throttle Cut Video". th-cam.com/video/Hnt_wBivo8M/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uqREy9EGbqeWQQsu I did two buttons that you need to press and hold for 1 second to activate and deactivate the throttle. Watch the video and where I program the "Sticky" Logical switch, just replace the Trigger off with the physical momentary switch instead of the 4TCut logic switch. That will allow you to flick for off and hold for on. Also the 4tcut switch is an AND switch so I need to press two buttons to activate it. Make it an EDGE switch and program a delay before active of 1.5 seconds. That way, it's only one switch instead of holding down two switches. Try it out. If you can't figure it out, email me and I'll send you instructions on creating it.
@@all_rc Fantastic! Thank you so much and again really appreciate all the videos and critical information you present.
Great video I see you got the manual setup also I'll try the setup we did first and add it later if I need it. Thanks for all the help the other night.
That really sucks! Sorry to see it go down like that.
Great video very helpful. So how do you make a switch act as throttle? What I’m trying to do is setup a switch for pilot fatigue for my reverse thrust. Brian Phillips has a TH-cam video where he sets it up but it’s on Spektrum. This is done so you don’t have to give throttle while holding a momentary switch. Just flip the switch and it goes into full reverse. Thanks Art
Lol, I was gonna set that up myself on my EC 1500. I'll try it and make a video. Stay tuned!
Great i have the Freewing Zeus that I want to set it up on. Thanks again
Before I try it, it may not be quick enough for you as I have other videos to make.... I assume you already have the throttle Rev momentary switch set up. Keep it in operation for this. Create a logic switch. FUNCTION - AND VALUE 1 - ( your throttle active switch position) VALUE 2 - (your throttle reverse momentary switch) * This is used as a throttle cut for reverse .. for safety. Create a new free mix. NAME - SLOW SOURCE - (your momentary switch for Rev thrust) Actions WEIGHT 100% (Add a New Action) SLOW UP - try .5 sec which will be 1 second ramp up keep slow down 0sec OUTPUT 1 - CH64 (This creates a dummy channel to have a ramp up to 100% throttle) Create another FREE MIX NAME - Rev Throttle ACTIVE CONDITION - (logic switch you created) SOURCE - CHANNELS - CH64 OPERATION - REPLACE OUTPUT 1 - CH3 (Throttle) Try that... But be careful in testing. Haven't really tested it yet. Make sure the logic switch switch positions are correct and work properly
I’ll see if I can do it. I’m still new to this radio but I might be able to get help from someone in our club that knows more than I do. If not I’ll have to wait for your video. Thanks for the help
Clone your model and work on the clone (rename the clone in the EDIT MODEL page)... That way if it doesn't work, you didn't screw anything up
I have one in kit form still in the box so when it’s time to build her, your input will be very helpful. I might keep the landing gear stock, digital MG servos, maybe a gyro, and a high performance fan/esc from Motion RC
4 inch CG you say? I thought the book CG looked very close to the nose.
Yeah book cg is way off.
Awesome Job 👏🏾 . I can’t wait to use these features. Thanks again!
I use the Red slider on the front for Throttle Cut using logic switches similar to your tutorial. Also you know if the throttle is active just by looking at the Red slider.
Tried to get this to fly on a 6s 64mm.. Couldn't get it to fly right.. Battery forward or back.. just a mess.. Lippisch p.15 on 6s 64mm.. definitely where the fun is
Interesting.... The Panther flies so well on the 4s setup, I thought it would be great on 6s. It's so stable... I had the Lippisch and it was fun on 4s. Must be crazy on 6!
@all_rc I just uploaded a video from today's adventures.. flew qith a 3s Lippisch. The 6s is crazy fast.. and very capable to maneuver F9F for me and another gentleman I fly with was a disaster.
Please make a video on how to set up frsky radio for a long range (is the certain module needed to buy, which receivers to use,, etc). Planning to use it for fpv fixed wing. Thanks a lot
I have an ELRS module and receivers on order so once I get them, I'll do a video on them. You can use the Tandem receivers like the TD-R10 or the twin Lite TW receivers (need a module for the TW protocol to plug in the back for the XE, X20 and X18 series). But the newer X20 pro, Aerowing, X14 and the Twin Lite radios all have the protocol internally.) The tandem receivers like the TDR10 have 2.4ghz and 900mhz at the same time. The 2.4ghz is standard range while the 900mhz is long range. That's what I would use for long range right now and works with all Tandem radios like the X20s.
@@all_rc lovely. I am getting the newest RS expected to be on market in few days. Hopefully they will have the module internally. It will be good idea also to make a video and give your thoughts about this new model RS. Thank you so much for answering all these interesting questions 👌 and wish you all the best.
Unfortunately, I buy everything I review so I won't be upgrading to the new radios. But yes, the RS has everything so it supports TW ( twin Lite) and Tandem. Great radio! Has everything you want, including the extra trims. You'll love it.
@@all_rc Thank you a lot for these useful information. Even the people at frsky were not replying about it clearly. My concern now is to be able to use the many Spektrum receivers that I have (and futaba too) with the Frsky RS. Now , I understand I will need to get a module even with the new RS 👌
Correct. It's just a 35 dollar module called iRange IRX4 Lite. Works well for Spektrum. Be aware, forward programming isn't functional yet. Telemetry works but not forward programming. It might even work for Futaba depending on which Futaba protocol you are using. I'm not too familiar with the Futaba stuff as the last time I used Futaba was back in the 72mhz days. But I believe they have some Futaba protocols in there. Check out my video on the multi protocol module installation when you are ready.
Another question too about frsky. Can the xe be used by thumbers. What is xe compared RS. Also I found a version called aerowing! What about it and why it is double the price. Thanks
The XE is not good for thumbers. You need to pinch to use the XE. The sticks are too long and when you thumb, you should be able to grasp around the radio. Can't do that with a tray radio. You want the X18 or X20 series. The X20 has a few different variations. The regular ones are the X20 and X20s. They were the first radios in the tandem series. The other ones like the X20 pro and the X20 Aerowing are higher end radios. They have metal cases, flash memory storage instead of SD Card storage. Extra trim buttons, extra momentary switches and overall better quality and weight. The Aerowing version also has mechanical detents on the left slider so you can use it for flaps easier. I Believe the Aerowing version is designed for Turbine pilots. But in terms of number of channels and power, all their radios are basically the same.
@@all_rc thank you so much for this informative reply. I have been asking here and there and I finally got the response. So happy that I found your TH-cam channel 💪
Thanks a lot for sharing this important video. I am trying to move from spektrum and futaba to frsky. I have a couple of questions please. I have many telemetry dsmx receivers, would this module also be able to read the telemetry? Also, I saw experiment where frsky range lasted to 5.7km while spektrum was 0.8km. So any idea if the frsky module used with the spektrum receivers, which range will prevail ?!
Yes, make sure to update the firmware on your radio. V1.5 firmware and above allow spektrum telemetry to work. For your second question, the range would be spektrum range. You are emulating spektrum protocol so it would be spektrum range.
@@all_rc omg. Thanks a lot for the quick reply and amazing content 👌
So quiet.
I had some questions about the kingcat, I’m getting my dads kingcat ready to fly
That one isn't mine... Wish it was!
@@all_rc thanks
Unfortunately that voltage sensor does NOT have polarity protection and its very easy to get it wrong when plugging into the balance port. If you do get it wrong you not only destroy your sensor but also you will destroy your receiver. Consequently I no longer use this. Be warned !
I wire it directly to the esc positive lead. So that way I don't have an extra wire to connect and disconnect. Makes it very convenient.
Yes a bunch of problems. This plane was crashed total loss that’s why it hasn’t been featured again. It’s an advanced plane so the crash was eminent
I don't know where you got your info or if you are just blatantly lying and making stuff up ... I still have the plane in one piece. If you look at my previous videos. You'll see I usually do one or two videos of planes. If I have a meaningful update I may do more. So whatever you are trying to prove you got your info wrong.
If you step up to the F86, the 120mm makes that 105mm look like a toy......Ya my 120mm F86 flies just as fast as the 80 size turbine version......technology is a wonderful thing LOL
That's interesting. My HSD T-33 has pretty good power. But I wouldn't say it's as fast as the turbine version of the T-33 (never flew the turbine version but I've seen it fly). My 105mm MB-339 was pretty decent after I put the HSD S-EDF in it. AF tried some EDF upgrades on that F-16 and he was disappointed. I've assumed it was the airframe and weight. Maybe the F86 is a cleaner, lighter design.
@@all_rc Ya the T33 is no way as slick as the F86 plus the swept wing design makes the F86 much faster......that is why they replaced the P80 in Korea...
what's the fastest speed (mph) it can fly and what's the slowest speed (mph) it can fly without stalling out?
Couldn't tell ya. To get actual, usable numbers, you would need to use an airspeed sensor. GPS won't cut it. GPS, in my testing is about 3 seconds delayed and unless you are straight and level, the numbers aren't accurate. Which it won't be if you are descending for landing or if you have any wind (GPS measures speed in relation to the ground). I don't have an airspeed sensor on my F-14 and don't really feel the need to hook one up. If you want to do it, you can record a log of your flight and get those numbers yourself if your radio is capable of that.
Did you mean 64cm rather than 64mm?
64mm is the size of the ducted fan unit in the plane. EDF jets are usually classified by the size of the Electric Ducted Fan in them. Typical EDF jets are 80mm ducted fan units so this plane at 64mm is a smaller plane.
What receiver did you use? If Spektrum, can please tell me your rates for AS3X?
That plane has no gyro in it. It's really very stable without one. If you are new to edfs then maybe throw a gyro in but if you've flown any edf before, it really isn't necessary. Super locked in.
Is it bind and fly?
PNP. No receiver
Would you trust Ali express for this one in a ARF? Lol
Shipping costs more than the kit.
@@all_rc I believe it... I saw one for 450 on amazon
Yeah well done sir. I raised my front landing gear for grass ops, I see everyone doing the mods to the spring too 😅 nice to see how it flys with the stock nozzles, but I got aftermarket just in case. Paint scheme absolutely perfect
Nice! I'm actually in the process of repainting mine as well. I don't like the blue and red paint on it either
I flew it in the factory colors for a couple weeks before painting. Much easier to see. But im just not into show colors on jets. What scheme are you looking at doing?
@all_rc I'm doing the Ukrainian digital camo livery. I got the graphics done by Calie Graphics I just have to finish painting the plane. I also got the 3d printed exhaust nozzles that are supposed to give the plane a little more thrust.
Tag us when you get it done. Would love to see it!
Man, I really like thay livery. I got mine years ago when they first came out and its an awesome jet but the stock livery kinda sucks. Arrow should re-release this in your livery, bet it would sell out.
Then people would complain that they cant see it in the air. 🤣 The F-15 is the bigger tragedy. The livery is horrendous. That alone is why the plane doesnt sell well. Just like the Yellow FMS 80mm Rafale with bad tattoos on it. 🤣
@@all_rc Yeah 1000% agree. I have been eyeballing the F15 since it came out. Yeah, you nailed it on the Rafale, what the hell were they thinking, LOL.
Perfect landing - - - :)
Me toooo! As for the 'factory cg' ideas, they are usually close, but way wrong. As for example, the 1.4M fms pitts. Factory is around 4.5". At 110mm to 125mm, on 6s/4000, it's Purdy dayum close! Rafale I cg'd the same battery as far back as possible!
I usually go by book and slowly bring the battery farther back. But some planes like the 70mm F-16 are so nose heavy with book cg, I don't understand why they set it like that. CG more aft usually makes an easier landing plane and better performance overall.
this and the FMS Rafale are my favorite hand launch jets. And yes, the SOUND!! Unlike any other Jet I have, this thing is all turbine like sound and no electric motor noise at all -:) I get 3.5 min full throttle on a smc 2900, or a nice 5.5 min of 1/2 power cruise. Not the easiest one to hand launch, adding gear like you did is not a bad idea👍nice flight -:)
I love the performance with a 1600 mah battery. Has enough flight time and it performance very well. I do run the batteries way down though!
What brand and model radio are you using. Thanks.
Frsky Tandem XE. I do a series on how to program on that radio. Awesome radio with lots of power. When using a Tandem receiver, the radio transmits on 2.4ghz and 915mhz at the same time. Radio hits and signal loss is non-existent with this setup. The XE is a tray type radio that only works if you pinch. If you use thumbs, a Frsky Tandem X20 or X18 would be better.
Nice maiden Jose! Sounds great 😊 she took you on a wild ride but you tamed her 👍🏻👍🏻
I am thinking about getting a FrSky radio as a first radio back in the hobby after a long break. I like what I see so far with them. This video was very informative, and I will be tuning in to watch others as I have questions. Thanks!
I think it's a fantastic radio system. If you are technically inclined and want to explore the more complex things a radio system can do, it's one of the most capable out there. But if you want to just fly a plane and enjoy, I would get whatever radio system is common among your flying club or friends. That way, you have support.
There should be a big disclaimer that you could destroy (or at least damage) your FrSky receiver instantly if its analog input pins are max 3.3VDC input -- in which case it needs a proper voltage divider. The older X- and D-series receivers probably only 3.3VDC max.
Nice flying sir, well done😊
So, how far from neutral were the control surfaces before and after the flight? And, how much trim did it take to straighten it out? You said you couldn’t wait to see how much it took, but didn’t tell us. 😎
It was quite a bit up. I'm rebalancing and resetting everything. I'll bring the cg way back and reset the elevator. That wasn't really supposed to be a flight for video but I posted it because it was a bit crazy.
@@all_rcI use the 737 Max runaway trim method - pull the nose up, let go, trim until the nose comes down to the horizon, pull the nose up, let go, trim, and repeat.. 😎
Lol! I've done that before instant trim. With instant trim, move the sticks to where the plane flies straight and level and press a button... And you are done.
@@all_rc Yeah, but I don’t want it trimming everything at one time when only one surface needs trimming.
@txkflier if you're only correcting for one surface, then it won't correct for everything, stick control, and a push of a button.
Nice job Jose! 😅 I’ll definitely remember to review your video on instant trim on my Frsky x20s ✅
Thank you for the tutorial. I have a similar problem. I’m trying to set up a sticky switch to turn off my NFC remote switch. The problem I’m having is how do I keep the sticky active when the model turns on? When I turn the radio back on the model will default to on( turn on). Physical switch I assigned is in OFF position but model is on.
Trying to understand your use case. You have a momentary switch that controls a logical sticky. That controls the NFC switch that turns on your receiver. You want turn on and off the receiver on your remote. Problem is when you turn on your tx, receiver turns on. So your logical sticky defaults to the on position when you turn on the radio... I would try to invert your trigger for the NFC switch. I haven't used an NFC switch I don't know where it is in menu but wherever you assigned the logical switch to turn on and off the receiver. Just try inverting the logical switch.
Yep, love the Viggen. It adds some weight but I always build mine with a traditional 2 layer wing with a spar, and also double up the vertical stab. Makes it last longer and not warp.
Yeah belly landing on wet grass does a number on the plane. Still flies but I might do what you are talking about on the next build
Nice I use an air tag . Cheap/ easy to use .
