Resin Ghost Pins: Part 1 | Halloween Resin
Making some Halloween Pins out of Epoxy Resin. They Glow in the Dark!
This is the first of two videos. In it, I pour the resin in a few different layers. One of the layers I use to cover the straight-back pins I’d glued on. Then we demold the resin pieces, and clean the edges a bit. Finally, we paint in the details on the ghostly faces!
Also, I think the skeleton is judging my choices. His name is Fred, in honor of the comedy “Drop Dead, Fred…” which has nothing to do with skeletons… but there you go anyway!
The second part will include doming for a mirror finish, re-cleaning and carding-up the finished charms! Check it out, too :) to see the final, fantastic result.
Thank you so much for stopping in to my channel!

    What is your go-to type and brand of resin and why?

    • @angiebcraftsdesign
      @angiebcraftsdesign 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've used a couple of brands: "Amazing Clear Cast" from Amulitite was my first, some no-name brands, and "Crystal" from Pebeo Gedeo. My first 2:1 ratio resin. I liked the Pebeo because it had a *much longer work-time, so I could fiddle around with a lot of different techniques and ideas before it becomes tacky and thick. It also releases a lot a bubbles. The downside is is that you can't suspend items in it (like glitter) because it's so thin, it'll all sink to the bottom before the resin thickens. I tend to work in layers then adding different elements on different days It's a trade-off though, because that extends a project's time over the course of days. One thing I would suggest people take into account when picking resins are the Yellowing Properties of the resin. I opened up a box of things I made about 3 years ago, to find that they had a distinct yellow cast to them :(. It made me very sad. Thanks for the great questions!

    So you like this type of mold more then the chess pieces that come out in one piece, if so what are the pros and cons?

    • @angiebcraftsdesign
      @angiebcraftsdesign 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, @-BellFire-! I think when I bought these molds the idea was to make these small chess pieces and add them to other projects. These two-part molds would let me make 1/2 pieces that could then go into other flat things, or be placed together and made into jewelry items... or maybe little travel set wth magnets on the bottom. I admit I like the round molds better without the line for full-size chess pieces. I haven't gotten to go back and revisit the other ideas, though. I plan to someday :). Thanks for the question!

    I think there's some air bubbles inside? How could you avoid that from happening?

    • @angiebcraftsdesign
      @angiebcraftsdesign 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, @Todoparauno173 ! That is a good question. There are a few ways to reduce the bubble in resin. - Use a thinner resin (less viscous) because they release gas more easily as the product cures. (these can be hard to keep additives, like chunky glitter suspended in, though) -Use a vacuum chamber to extract gas from the resin before pouring it into the molds -Use a pressure pot, placing the molds into it for the time (often over-night) it takes to cure. I'm a hobbyist, with a small space to work in myself, so I can't really accomodate the additional equipment at this time. For thicker resins, simply try to mix and pour very slowly. A slight spritz of alcohol on the mold just before pouring may reduce some corner bubbles, (But too much and may degrade the silicone of the mold. Also can't be used at the same time as mold-realease spray) Finally, try running the flame a long-neck lighter quickly over the surface a little while after the items have been poured, to remove any surface bubbles that have risen. Hope some of these ideas help! Happy Crafting!

    Answer to your "complex mold crevices" question: I usually use a toothpick to pick out the bubble out of tiny crevices. Needles would work, too, I suppose. Also, mica powder will make your resin more opaque. You mentioned the translucency of the resin you used.

      @@cam2designs No! It's still good! LoL! I was surprised when I pulled these guys out of the molds that the bubbles weren't too bad. I picked up some little silicone stick-like tool along the way, that I use sometimes, as well, that helps clear the bubbles from corners of molds. Another thing about the pipettes, use the smaller ones if you only need a tiny amount at a time or if you need the really small end,although you may want to cut the ends off as well if you don’t need it- and let it suck in as much resin as it can before using it. • @angiebcraftsdesign
      @angiebcraftsdesign ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, pep Asa! I had been using resin that is very thin, and likes to flow. When it inevitably runs over the side of the cured piece, the new resin adheres to the old resin, ruing the surface of the underside. It often looks like hard plastic drips. Actually, just looking at it, you can see my over-run really well at 8:30. Those hexagons would have been part of the face of the charm permanently if there wasn't a barrier between the original charm's resin and the new "doming" resin. The latex creates a barrier. As the resin flows over the side of the piece, It moves *on top of the latex. Once it's cured, I can peel the latex off and the "drips" come with it, leaving the original poured resin with it's nice surface. I think people can use tape for this purpose as well. I learned the technique from other TH-camrs' videos. I hope this makes sense :). Thanks for the question! 🌼🌻

      Hello, @Luisa maria! Thank you for writing. I am not sure if this translation is correct. It is asking if you would use glue to protect the craft , pendant. In this example, I only used 2-part Epoxy Resin. I mixed more epoxy resin on additional days to "Dome" the surface so it looks nicer. That is, to make the front and back of the pieces rounded. The new Epoxy Resin adhered to the already hardened resin seamlessly in this project, which was great :) . I did not add any additional surface protection beyond this "doming." I hope that helps :) ! I learned the technique from other youtubers' videos. I hope this makes sense :). Thanks for the question! 🌷

      Actually, just looking at it, you can see my over-run really well at 8:30. Those hexagons would have been part of the face of the charm permanently if there wasn't a barrier between the original charm's resin and the new "doming" resin. I've able to get them off, leaving the thing looking good at 8:55 👍. I made a set of clover charms in an earlier video where I didn't know how to do this, and then tried to sand off the over-run... it was a mess, haha! (th-cam.com/video/O9wfJLeeafA/w-d-xo.html). Around 8:10 in that video, if you want to see.

      @@angiebcraftsdesign great, thank you. It all makes sense now. I find (normal) tape not sticky enough. Do you think if we put a bit of oil/cream. We can get the same results? I try to find out how to have many but very very small cells. Can you help?

    • @angiebcraftsdesign
      @angiebcraftsdesign ปีที่แล้ว

      @@celinefoff1863 Oh, I don't know about the cream or oil. I think I would have a hard time covering the piece all the way, or keeping it from rubbing off as I handle the piece. It sounds like a good thing to experiment with, though :) I'm not sure what you mean regarding the small cells. Are you casting a lot of very small pieces? I think, if you don't need to dome them / coat the back side, you do not have to worry about the latex portion of the process 👍

      Hi Sushila! The blue stuff? That's some "painter's tape" from the hardware store. It's like masking tape, but meant to leave less stickiness behind. I put it on the pieces before drilling incase the drill slipped, maybe it would prevent scratching. I was worried about the drilling maybe splitting the piece, too, since this brand of resin seems to be more brittle. I'm not sure if the tape helped in that regard, but the piece didn't split, so I'll keep using it :) LoL! Thank you, for watching, that was a great question! Happy crafting! :)

      Thank you so much!! The animated *transitions* I actually got as part of a pack from this creator: dhdesigns.gumroad.com/l/zAKLC . I'm not sure which pack I bought, but it came with some overlays (like the hearts, shapes and twirls that go right on the video) and transitions (that go between the videos breaks). I added the sound effects from the iLife library or GarageBand. I play with the audio clip's speed to change the sound & try to synch it up. These little bits come in incredibly handy! Thank you for watching! It really means a lot to me :) .

    Do you use the epoxy resin to fill in the bubble holes in the back of the mold?? Thanks for the video, I've jst started doing the island molds, getting lots of tips.

    • @angiebcraftsdesign
      @angiebcraftsdesign ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah! I used the same type of 2:1 epoxy resin to "dome" the surface on these & fill in the bubble. I'm not sure if it's really the best choice, as it's thin, runs off the edges if I'm not careful, and does not make a high dome, but I love how well it blends in with the resin that is already there. Because it's so thin, there is nearly *no* bubbles, too. It's like it's seamless! Between all the layers and steps that I take to make these types of projects... it also takes me ages to finish my resin projects . I have to find a better way. Thank you for commenting! Let me know if you have any tips & how yours came out, as well! 🌷

      Hi, @AMANI BATRISYIA! Thank you for saying so! I haven't gotten the process down pat on how to "finish" the edges so that they are really nice and smooth yet. My on-line store platform is seemingly going out of commission, as well. So, I think I'll be searching for a new one. Once I sort out these two aspects, I *do hope to sell these sets on line :) .
