    Wow, this is such high-value information. Thank you so much. ONE CAVEAT- iTalki is TERRIBLE -please stop recommending it. They argued with me about $300 worth of internal staff time to refuse to give me a $6.99 refund on a trial lesson that didn't work that was their technology's fault and that the teacher made zero attempt to help me resolve, plus they have NO visibility to get to any of your sesison experience to help you when there's an issue and they spam you constantly with BS in your platform inbox but give you NO way to contact them through the portal at all. They are why I have had to start over on looking for a tutor elsewhere, and the other sites I've found that have collections of teachers are either insanely expensive ($50/remote class? no thanks) or have equally shitty technology issues as iTalki has. So DON'T use or recommend iTalki. All that said, this makes my whole year. After blowing so much time banging my head against a wall trying to get through the technology ghetto that is every single French teaching tutor match platform I've tried, and TH-cam repeatedly refusing to take my money for the Premium plan, this video is the first thing that HASN'T interrupted my learning process this week. I'm so grateful for your curation of this and your insights. I don't even know how to express the degree of how great this is. Thank you so much!

  • @alg7903
    @alg7903 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I really tried to understand, but I'm not sure I got the point correctly: Is your struggle partially related to not using the languages you're learning as much as you used to? Also, I wonder what your thoughts are on this: I feel like learning a language is more of a medium than an ultimate goal. There are ups and downs, and when you don't use a language for a while, you start to forget parts of it, but it eventually comes back. The ultimate goal isn’t the learning process itself, but rather the opportunities that using the language opens up once you've mastered it to a certain level. So, I’m really curious if you’ve ever thought about shifting your content from focusing on the learning process and reflection on it to something else. Sorry if my comment seems a bit messy-I just let my thoughts flow here :)

    • @languagetraveladoptee
      @languagetraveladoptee หลายเดือนก่อน

      @alg7903 hey thanks for the comment! The struggle I described is related to lots of factors, hence why I had to add chapters since I didn't script. But I was covering the ups and downs of going back into learning a language, emotions behind it that aren't usually discussed, how language relates to my life seasons, and how I'm dealing with it all. I see the ultimate goal of this language (Spanish in my case) to be both--being present in the learning process plus being open to the opportunities this language will and has already unlocked for me. I haven't been present in my life for a while, Spanish is helping me do that ever so slowly, even though the inner critic comes up every now and again as normal! I am not sure how I am shifting my content, it may be more of how I edit videos and how I present, rather than the actual content itself. Hope this made some sense!

      Similar for me. I got through everything A1 in 20 days on Busuu with no problem except how they taught etre/avoir in such a jumbled mess and not in standard useful ways at all, and I've stayed confused on those because of that despite lots of working on it. I did go ahead and go into the A2 material though and most of it is pretty simple, so if you want to try that you could. It's the cheapest but also pedagogically the best app I've found by far; it's just that verb issue they can't get their shit together on somehow. I am doing that work other ways. I don't need to pass a test but of course we all need etre and avoir forms to roll off the tongue, so I really wish I could find an affordable teacher who isn't on an awful teaching platform with tech issues. It's so frustrating to be at the mercy of these companies that have such shitty platforms. If you'd like an accountability buddy to commiserate on the A1-2 journey with, I'm down!

    HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, this is actually gold. When they say "You want it on a silver platter" you took it literally, this video is just amazing. Thank you!

    Hey, sorry, but could you use the Istanbul series on your own without needing a translator or tutor, if it is immersive?

      I just needed a tutor to check my answers I gave, unfortunately there is no answer key. But yes it's definitely immersive and you can make it work even if it's completely in Turkish if you have the audio and video lessons from TH-cam that pair well with it

    Biggest disadvantage that I see about this course it's the high price

      Yes it's definitely not the most cost effective out there

      You might want to check if your library carries the audiobooks in either CD or digital format.
