In 1954, when Jackson C. Frank was in elementary school in New York a furnace explosion severely injured him and killed his fellow classmates that left him with over half of his body burnt. During Jackson's long recovery process at the hospital, his teacher Mr. Castelli thought it would be a good idea to give Jackson something to do while he healed, so Castelli gave Jackson an acoustic guitar that would ultimately shape his life. After years of a tedious recovery process Jackson had a strong passion for music and upon turning 21, a hefty insurance check (roughly $900,000 today) was ordered to Jackson for his inflicted injuries from the elementary school fire. With these new disposable funds and a new love for guitar it wasn't before long that Jackson was indeed catching a boat to England. Before moving to England; Jackson befriended Paul Simon who would eventually produce and release Jackson C. Frank's self-titled debut album in 1965. Although Jackson had success in England, He felt it was time to move back to the United States as he was not mentally well and his insurance payout was running low. Upon his arrival back to the United States he was soon diagnosed with schizophrenia and protracted depression that prevented him from maintaining his career. Later in life Frank struggled with poverty, depression and addiction until his death in 1999. His influence however remains imprinted with Nick Drake, Paul Simon, Sandy Denny and many more all indebted to his sparse, melancholic confessionals. 58 years since the release of “Blues Run The Game” and musicians from all over the world continue to pay respect to the pioneer. 🎶 💕
