Squier JV Stratocaster 1982-84 compared to Fender USA Stratocaster
The JV or Japanese Vintage Squiers are very sought after, especially ones like this example where the electronics and finish are all original and almost NOS. It only has very slight buckle rash and a chip off the pick guard.
I compare it to my USA start by playing over a backing and then comparing all the pickup positions.
It goes without saying that the settings are the same in each every example for both guitars.
0:00 - Intro
1:05 - JV Stratocaster played over backing track
2:26 - USA Stratocaster played over backing track
3:49 - Pickup comparisons
I came across this guitar as I was setting it up for a friend who i believe is selling. Keep an eye out on the UK eBay store, it's a good one!

Blindfold Challenge - Valve vs Solid State vs Guitar RIg 5 (modelling) - Clean, Crunch and Drive.
มุมมอง 8318 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi folks. Are you ready to take the test!!! Let's take a look at a question that a lot of TH-camrs have started to provide great demos and answers for. Can we hear the difference between different guitar technologies? VALVE - SOLID STATE - MODELLING Are we just loyal to traditional technology because it was there first and was responsible for creating those classic tones? Can modern technology ...
Harley Benton SC450 Plus vs PRS McCarty - In the studio - Part 3 - Cheap Guitar vs Expensive Guitar
มุมมอง 7K8 ปีที่แล้ว
I play the Harley Benton in my small studio in a produced rock track, then I play the same track with the exact same setting on my PRS McCarty. The playability of the Harley Benton is excellent. Is it as well made as the PRS, or made from the finest components and timber? No, but to me it sure as hell plays well and is great value for money! All guitar tones are produced by Guitar Rig 5 using t...
Ibanez RT150 - Renovation project - part 5 - How to level, crown and polish your frets
มุมมอง 1.9K8 ปีที่แล้ว
This is my first time levelling, crowning and polishing a fret board. It was a great experience and the result were great. Unfortunately this guitar will need a re-fret at some stage as the neck was severely worn and it's taken them a bit too low for my taste. But hey, this is the ideal guitar to practice on! An honourable mention to a few of the tool manufacturers: - The Chris Alsop crowning f...
Ibanez RT150 - Renovation project - part 4 - Making a custom pickguard/scratchplate
มุมมอง 2K8 ปีที่แล้ว
So I couldn't find a reputable source for an Ibanez RT150 scratch plate. As I'm a tradesman by day I thought "ya know what, get in the shop and make your own"... so I did. I ordered the pick guard material online, templated the original and used a router table with a flush trim but to transfer the pattern across from the original to MDF, then from the MDF to the new material. Keep your eyes pee...
Ibanez RT150 - Renovation project - part 3 - Installing a new jack and plugging her in

Here I installed a new output jack on the RT as the original one was defective. I have a little noodle and switch through some settings and tones. If you like strats, but like a modern radius and contemporary look, check these out, they are great guitars. Don't be fooled, this one was not designed for shredders! I have big plans for this guitar, hopefully it will become part of my regular set u...
Ibanez RT150 - Renovation project - part 2 - Strip down, clean fingerboard and assess the damage!
มุมมอง 1.6K8 ปีที่แล้ว
So really this is the first part where I really examine the guitar! Rusty old strings are removed as is the neck and I give her a general clean up before restringing and ascertaining what work needs to be done. There is one really bad fret (14th) which renders bends on the G string upwards impossible and the E on the D string buzzes out entirely so some fret work is necessary. The input jack ha...

So this wasn't the intended next video... I wanted "Part 2" to be a session in the studio with the Harley Benton, that will now be "Part 3"!!! Harley Benton - SC450 Plus VB - Part 1 Teardown

There have been a lot of videos made about the Harley Benton range of guitars. It seems that everyone has a slightly different story to tell about the build quality and playability. If talking tones only, yeah not worth the price. However, that PRS is probably buit 10x better overall. I have never owned a PRS, but their quality is said to be exceptional 🧐🤔😬

The noiseless are heavily compressed. They're great if you're playing something very mid-forward but if you want dynamic range and subtlety any real single coil will be superior.

Pickup comparison videos might be the most time consuming and articulate thing to create in this field. It looks like the videos are filmed consecutively but these guys have to film and record one set then go away and change the pickups (which is a great skill in itself), then come back and film exactly what they did before with the exact same settings, cam angles and playing as they did sometimes hours later. It's pretty much a science experiment. So much respect man. Liked and subbed. You convinced me to plump for a set of the Noiseless pickups. Plus, awesome playing! Heard some SRV and KennyWS influence in there 🤘

I don't like the noiseless. They're more focused than a typical humbucker. To me there is something really special about a pair of nice middle of the road Alnico V single coils. Nothing else can come close. I'll put up with the hum for now.

The noiseless pickups are very close basically indistinguishable. The true advantage that the noises pickups have is eliminating the 60 cycle home when you add overdrive or distortion it doesn't get magnified. In particular when you are in the studio recording tracks

  • @jasonswitzer1748
    @jasonswitzer1748 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Noiseless sound too clinical to me. Yes, the lack of noise is nice, but it’s “too perfect” to me. The ideal pickup offers minimal noise, but enough that you are subtly aware of it. I think that’s the vintage charm that the creator of the video was referencing in his write up.

  • @jimmy5634
    @jimmy5634 ปีที่แล้ว

In a band scenario, noiseless are really more practical and get the job done. Playing at home for fun, I’d rather not have them. In fact, I wouldn’t choose Texas Specials either. I’d rather have pickups that sound like what Mark Knopfler uses.

I think the stigma of noiseless pickups is all but wrong. The people who say they take away that Strat tone have a hearing impairment of some sort. I’ve used all tripe including Fender Pure Vintage single coils, not only are they too noisy, they are ear piercingly bright, and really make the Strat very uncomfortable to listen to and especially play live.

I'd have a jv squier 80s strat over a u.s.a fender any day even the squier made japan strats from the early 90s are brilliant. I have a 93 black squier strat from japan its more or less a silver series but after the removed the title on the headstock silver series .

I’ve been using an old set of lace chrome domes in my strat for years. Not technically a “noiseless” pickup by modern definition but lace pickups were the low noise option of the 80s. Although they’re not quite as “chimey” as standard strat pickups, that’s always been what I liked about them. Still maintaining that strat tone but filtering out some of the harmonics that can sound messy at times. I know that isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I certainly enjoy the benefits of them. Based on this comparison, noiseless takes the cake. The noiseless benefit to me outweighs losing a bit of that loose chime.

Doesn't seem like you are giving up anything using the noiseless but you are getting the cleaner sound that it promises. I know that there are a lot of purists out there but to me, it seems like a major technological advancement. Maybe they don't belong in a vintage guitar or even a vintage reproduction but if you are just someone who wants to play a modern guitar in 2023 you might as well take advantage of things like this. I have been modeling my MIM mod after an American Ultra with the noiseless pickups, the locking tuners, and the graph tech saddles. Eventually, I will get around to cleaning up the frets (they are fine as they are but not as pretty as the MIA), and I'll deal with that plastic nut too. As far as I am concerned this video is a major prof of concept. Noiseless all the way.

Not a recent test but I just found it… and the only Strat I played had Texas Special. A friend had Noiseless and I liked the sound on my Strat better and many had the same opinion. But it was two different builds. So this test is great, using the same guitar for the test. Strangely I still like the TS better. I use a Tele now with 3 PUs… and they are TS too ;-)

So many pickups and guitars sound different. It's all a matter of opinion though. Sometimes when you strive for the perfect sound you lose character. That applies to voice and guitars. Too clean sounds sterile. I like the TS pickups. Just my opinion.
