In this episode, I offer a range of ideas and inspiration for my upcoming patchwork themed knit-a-long. There are garments, accessories and items for the home. I have set up a bundle for these and other patterns in my Ravelry account, which is UnderEagleMount. I showed a book by Kaffe Fassett called Glorious Knitting and mentioned the Log cabin Sweater tutorial on the Instagram page of Julia @m...

I like that you talk about all your crafts, I dye yarn as well so I really enjoy when you talk about your yarns
Thank you, that’s really good to know. Thanks for taking the time to tell me x
Your Heirloom quilt cardigan has come out absolutely beautiful. Your colours are gorgeous and I think the sleeveless option is really attractive and versatile.
Thank you so much!
I've just found your podcast and I love it. All your makes are lovely. I too went to Yarndale was completely underdressed and was very cold all day (completely my own fault!) I'm with you on written instructions versus charts I think it's because when I learnt to knit over 50 years ago patterns were all written out and that is what I'm used to. I'm going to look up your past episodes to catch up.
Hello! Thank you so much for the kind words. I too was VERY cold at Yarndale. More layers next year. I think lots of people struggle with charts, certainly a few people have commented here that they feel the same as me. I have just cast on the 424 stitches for that shawl this evening - twice - and have read through the first section of the instructions. Wish me luck. Hope you enjoy the other videos. Hopefully there’ll be a new one this weekend. X
Really enjoyed this. Love the dress and the skirt, such lovely autumnal fabrics. Both cardigans are gorgeous too. I’m with you on written rather than charted instructions, my brain just can’t make sense of them. Was lovely to see your Yarndale purchases and plans.
Thank you. Will any of those plans actually happen?!
I’m sure they will! In some form or another!
This was lovely to watch Laura - thanks for showing your Yarndale finds! Whenever I watch your podcast I come away with a little list of suppliers/patterns to look up - so inspiring! So, you definitely shouldn't feel guilty about spending money on your hobbies :) The large shawl patterns are just beautiful - I'll be saving those to look at more closely. I've been knitting my textured shawl for the KAL whilst watching your podcast..I'm probably a third of the way through now. Love the idea of having a shawl to wear on the sofa/in bed - soooo cosy! Happy knitting :) xx
Sounds like you’re making good progress on your shawl. Glad to help keep you motivated by providing things to watch 😂. I often have chilly arms in bed but have to have my hands out to hold the book so a shawl seems a great idea. I’m so pleased you find things that inspire you - I think that’s one of the best things about knitting YT. Happy knitting to you too x
Hi Laura. I’ve just found your lovely podcast. It was wonderful. Love your green Felix jumper. I’ve made three cardi versions. Also love the big shawl patterns. I would love to make one of them. So looking forward to watching all your previous videos. Beautiful makes 💚💚. Sarah 😊
Oh, thank you so much. It really makes me so happy when people leave such love comments. I keep thinking about a Felix cardigan; the jumper is such a good all rounder. Best wishes, Laura x
🍀 hello from turqia 🌺
Hello and welcome x
Just found your podcast!❤❤ In Missouri. Do you have a link for the pajama cardigan. I fou d one on Raverlry but its not the one. Thanks!!
Hi. Thanks for getting in touch. It is the Badana cardigan by Rosa Pomar. Hope you find it x
Thank you so very much. I loved your dress and the sweater was perfect.
@@LittleFlowerFarmstead Oh, well thank you very much for those kind words x
Love the shawls. You made a great choice :) A bit beyond my skill set at the moment though. I did comment on your scout scarf on IG recently and so I started to make one last week :) LOVE the waste wool concept too! Is it just a small company or do they sell online?
Hi. I’m so glad to hear you’ve started a Scout Scarf. Hope you love it. Do you know, I didn’t really look at the company name on the stall I bought the wool from. I was just chatting to the gentleman and was really impressed with the idea and the yarn and bought it. I think though, it was a special for the show.
0:09 Really enjoyed your podcast, thank you! I found you quite accidentally, from your accent, I thought you must be a close neighbour, so I settled down to watch. Glad I did, we share some of the same interests, though I have never tried dyeing! I have gone back to your first episode and shall relish bringing myself up to date on all you have crafted since.
Hi, so pleased you enjoyed the episode and hope you enjoy the previous ones. Where are you from? I’m from Manchester originally but have been in West Yorkshire a good while.
I'm with you on the charts vs written instructions situation. Whenever I try to use a chart I waste quite a lot of time reminding myself what all the symbols mean, especially with textured stitch patterns.
Glad it’s not just me!
Watching from Australia, love your podcast, particularly the natural dye segments. ❤️
Thank you so much. How amazing to be ‘chatting’ to you in Australia! Glad you enjoy the natural dyeing. I want to do more and more x
Thank you for another lovely podcast! Your dress is beautiful 😍
Oh, thank you for watching! And for the kind compliment x
I’ve just come across you and really enjoyed seeing your projects and hearing about your future plans. I’d love to know where you had the brushed fabric from as it was so nice ! My sewing skills are very limited but enjoy making simple pyjamas and project bags for my knitting!
Hello. Thank you for your comment. I’m glad you enjoyed the podcast. I got the fabric from an online company called Minerva. Best wishes, Laura.
Maybe you can seam them on your sewing machine? Just like you would for steeking except backwards? 😊
I really enjoyed this. The prizes you have made/ are making for your kal are fantastic. I’m joining in as soon as I’ve made a dent in my current test knits. I love the heirloom cardi and the garment idea. That Liberty fabric is fab. Enjoy Yarndale tomorrow.
Hello. Looking forward to seeing what you make. We had a lovely day at Yarndale, stroked sheep, squeezed wool - bought quite a bit! Need more hands to knit faster!
First time catching your TH-cam channel. I enjoyed the knitting. The beanie hat was really cute. I looked for the pattern on Ravelry to no avail. I’d appreciate your help! Please and thank you!
Frontside Flip! Found it! 🤪
@@suzyburke Glad you did! I remember now, but forgot say in the video, I had to knit more repeats to get the length suggested before decreasing. Have fun x
Hi, I’ve just come across your podcast and your makes are relatable 😊 I knitted the felix cardigan with 3 strands of the harvest yellow from woolly knits and had plenty left over so I’m sure you’ll be ok! Such as lovely colour. Was thinking about going to yarn dale too!! Hope you have a super time with your daughter 🧶😍
Hiya, thanks so much for the comment. I love that Woolly Knits colour. I’ve had it so long that I’m struggling to finally commit to a pattern. If you get to Yarndale, enjoy it. We’re there on Sunday, say hello if you see me xx
I understand, it really is a lovely colour 😊 Will do! Thank you for your lovely podcast. Look forward to following your journey 😊
@@Kimsgardencare Thank you so much xxxx
I loved this video and seeing everything you’re working on. I look forward to seeing what you get at yarndale and I loved hearing your future plans. Can’t wait to see the project bag and the prizes for the KAL are so lovely xx
I’m having lots of fun at the moment, planning all the things I want to make. Hope I actually get to them all! Xx
Beautiful work and exciting plans. Thank you so much! I love all those colours.
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed it and liked all the autumn colours. They’re my favourite x
Hey Laura just catching up with your podcasts now, they're great, so much info and inspiration. I'd like to join a kal if its not too late. just need to see what wool I have in and what I need to buy, so might be a little late to the game but it'll motivate me to get started on something. I hear you with the moths, they are so destructive I think they love our climate. To the drawingboard x
Hiya, course you’re not too late. It’s all very relaxed over the whole season. Just post to Instagram (not stories) to be entered for the pressies. Otherwise, just enjoy. Can’t wait to see what you choose x
Beautiful dress 👗
Thank you.
Lovely socks! I must try a ribbed pair! The heirloom quilt squares look fab.
Thank you. Now I need to sew them altogether 😬.
I really like the low contrast on the blanket squares. It reminds me of the old-looking “faded Persian” rugs that are so popular now. Adding a few more would look nice.
Ah, thanks so much. I think it would be good to add a few more to balance them out. I appreciate your input x
I normally knit toe up for that reason I love long socks To get the grease out of your wool shawl wash in hot water with wool soap or kitchen detergent then rinse in hot water let soak for a while in the soapy water you can move it around a bit but don’t shock it with cold water that is what will shrink it let it cool in the rinse water if your washing machine has a spin without adding water spin it out then block out to dry and that should take most of the lanolin out you may have to change your soap water a couple of times but I think one wash should get it now. Good luck When checking for contrast for your colours take a photo in black and white and much easier to see the difference. Check kaffee fassett for patchwork inspired knits especially his older designs
Thanks for all the great info x
Hello. I just found your podcast and really enjoyed it. I will have to look into this KAL. Sounds like fun.
Oh, thanks so much. I’m so glad you enjoyed it. There is an episode all about it. Enjoy and hope you can join in x
Loved this podcast and looking forward to the KAL even if I am a slow knitter, the summer holidays have been busy so not so much knitting has happened but hopefully will get lots done in autumn xx
Fingers crossed! Should be easier once the garden slows down x
Love the earthier, more natural colours that you showed us.
Thanks. They are more my choice normally too. Although, I am getting lots of wear from the blue dress.
YT just recommended your channel to me and I'm so happy they did!! Your podcast is exactly what I've been looking for and I can't wait to go catch up on your other episodes!! xoxo Judy
Thank you so much Judy. That has really cheered me to hear. Hope you continue to enjoy the podcast x
I have knit several of the patterns out of the Kaffe Faucet book and still have it in my library
Oh good. Do you think you might knit one for this? If so, which? I’d love to see.
@@under.eagle.mountain I would knit the Out Lined Star or the coat that follows it I have made both before using yarn left over from items knit and also lined them...now would use hand spun....(not enough yet)
Wow! That all sounds amazing. I particularly like the outline star patterns but my skills are not up to that yet. Honestly can’t wait to see what you make!
I’m so excited! I have pretty much all these patterns in my to knit wish list so the problem is going to be choosing where to start! Off to look at the Ravelry bundle!
Now you just have to find the right yarn in your stash and you’re good to go!
Looking forward to joining in, I’m leaning towards the dishcloths as I always knit my mum some for Christmas and these would be perfect (if they didn’t get used for dolls quilts) but I also love the bonnet. Have a lovely holiday xx
I've been wanting to try Natasja Hornby's shawl pattern Clint
Now’s the perfect time then! Look forward to seeing your colour choices. So many nice ones on the project pages.
Off to rummage patterns on ravelry and wool in stash. Will try and incorporate a ‘no spend ‘ from stash. 😊. Have a lovely holiday.
Greta! Looking forward to seeing what pattern you choose. Patchwork knits are great for using up stash x
Never done a KAL so might be an opportunity to give it a go 😊
Yes do! I’ll post a video in the next couple of days with some inspiration and all the info. It would be so good to have you join in.
Thank you I will look out for it !
I just discovered your podcast and really enjoyed it! Hope you will enjoy France :) what area will you be visiting? (I'm french)
Hello, nice to have you here. We are visiting Normandy, about one hour in from the coast. Except for a weekend in Paris, it will be my first visit to France and I am really looking forward to it.
Yes to the patchwork inspired KAL. I think that would be lovely. Loads of tempting patterns around at the moment!
Aren’t there?! Think I’ll try to make an inspired episode this week and start the KAL at the start of September. Glad you’re joining in x
The pots are great! They must have been so interesting to make. I particularly liked the glaze on the green one and the duck egg one. The colour of your new Tolsta is fab.
Thanks so much! Love the pot throwing and can’t wait to get back at it. X
Sorry cannot find the pattern for your tee you are wearing.....If you can put the name written somewhere in your video....the transcript says "a leaf tee by Rebecca something.... Anyway very cute!!
Hi, sorry if I wasn’t clear enough. The pattern is by Rebecca Clow who is @the.creabea on here, instagram and ravelry. It is actually a cardigan pattern called the Leith that I altered a bit. If you need info on other things, you can always contact me or check out my instagram .
I’ve enjoyed watching and being inspired by your podcasts. I’d like to join your makealong. I was thinking of the Ariana crochet cardigan, is that like patchwork? Enjoy your holiday! Coming to you from sunny Lancashire. 😎
A close neighbour! And isn’t the sun welcome?! I’m so glad you would like to join in. I think I’ll do a little video with some ideas in August and then we’ll start September 1st. That cardigan would be perfect xxxx
I just discovered your new podcast and I absolutely love it! You did a great job and it didn't even feel like it was your first. I can't wait to watch the rest! Love all of your makes.
Oh goodness! Thank you so much for your kind comments. I was so nervous first time round! I’m really pleased you enjoyed it and hope you continue to do so. Best wishes, Laura x
Loved seeing your pots, I love the Caramel brown one too, and the colour of the one you might gift your mum. Please share what you make next term too. I also love a junk/antique shop too, and taproot, I’ve got quite a few back issues but there is one (an older one) I might have to ask you to borrow (and obviously return) as it had a few articles I wanted to read xx
Of course, any time. Let me know which one and I’ll post it out if I have it xxxx
You live in such a beautiful place!❤
Thank you.
A project for yourself whilst dealing with the mohair is definitely the way forward! The bundle dyeing is really interesting.
Thanks. It was a lot of fun.
First time watching your podcast and I enjoyed seeing your plans. The hand dyed fabric you made is spectacularl👏👏👏very nice job and the yarn is also lovely. Have a wonderful vacation and I can’t wait to see all your lovely socks upon your return. If you are so inclined….I’d love to see your holiday location. GAyle in Minnesota, USA where it will be 90 plus degrees today and humidity to match😅
Guess it has to be warm somewhere! I’m glad you enjoyed the episode. I will hopefully take some pictures or even film of where we stay in France (not going until August) but don’t know if they’ll be much internet there so will put together something when we’re home. They’ll be other episodes before then I think. Thanks again and best wishes for coping with the humidity.
Look forward to seeing all your socks in your lovely naturally dyed yarn 🧦 xx
Oh I love the Heirloom Quilt Cardi! It’s in my queue!
It’s a beautiful pattern. Good luck with yours x
Hello from Nova Scotia Canada 🇨🇦!
Hello. Gosh, isn’t it amazing to chat with someone so far away?!
The rainbow of colours you got are lovely and it was interesting to hear what they were dyed with. Love the knitting pouch, what a great way to use the patch. What are you reading that has you so gripped?
All sorts of things. I’ve read some recently released detectives books, some of the Bridgerton novels, a new non-fiction by Patrick Grant. Just really enjoying a sit and a read at the moment. Any recommendations?
@@under.eagle.mountain I want to read the Patrick Grant book too. My favourite reads recently have been The Hike by Lucy Clarke and Platform Seven by Louise Doughty which are both clever thrillers with great female characters.
@@kate-emvintage Oh, thanks so much!
Your Leith cardigan is looking lovely.
Thanks. It’s all finished now and waiting for its first wear x
