We're Dionna and Justin. When the kids (Tatum and Maddox) moved out of the house, we decided it was time to change up our lives. We sold our house and moved into a small condo....then moved out of that and moved into a van. YUP, a van with two dogs....one of them larger than most adults! I’ve driven through Leavenworth a few times on my way to Seattle but haven’t stop, even though I really wanted to.
Its so beautiful, especially during the holidays!
In 2016 on our trip from Tennessee to Alaska our generator stopped working. We couldn't get it repaired. When we dry camped outside Yellowstone, we had no electricity. Since our water heater is electric we had to heat our water on the stove. That meant sponge baths. We also had to drive around to charge up our house battery so that we could use the water pump. You need a back-up plan on how to handle things when something goes wrong and you have to live with it for awhile. We were still better off than tent camping. PS on long trips we tow a utility trailer with our pantry supplies, fishing gear, chairs, extra cat litter, spare tires etc. Since gas stations are far apart going to Alaska we carried extra gas cans. We drive a Winnebago Travalto.
You're not wrong there! A plan for how to deal with things that go wrong is HUGE! Dionna broke our toilette at one point. I spent the next day trying to figure out how to get a new one for fix this one. LOL! Didn't feel like waking up in the middle of the night to go pee in the woods lol! Luckily I was able to fix it!
My husband never wants to be homeless again. When we moved from Ohio to Georgia. We stayed with our oldest daughter. Then we moved to our youngest daughters. That lasted two weeks. Granted she kept moving back to our house. But that must have been different. Granted we come with three small dogs. Who are spoiled rotten. But I don’t expect anyone else to spoil them. We do that. So we moved back to the oldest daughter’s house. She has five kids, a husband and one dog. It was like a zoo there. So we moved into a hotel. We lived one place for five months. And another place for a few months. We already owned the land. We were just trying to get a manufactured home put on it. And it took over a year. We finally bought a tent and some sleeping bags to stay on the land. It was costing us a fortune to stay in hotels with three dogs. The first night in the tent was colder than anything. It was May in Georgia, out in the country. We put the tent right next to the house. It just so happened a guy came to do something at the house. He gave my husband the keys. We were really not suppose to live in the house. But we had nowhere else to go. So if any inspectors came by we shoved our air mattress in the closet. We lived like the pioneers in Georgia until July. When we finally got power. And we have a tank to this day that we get filled up once a month because they broke a bit when they tried to drill a well here. And we didn’t have enough at the time to have them re drill.They charged us $8000 for what they did. Now you can’t get a well company to do my work around here. Maybe in five years when stuff settles down they will. We have the money now and no one will come where I live. We even had a downer come out and show where and tell him everything about where they should drill. So we keep paying a small fortune, way more than a well would have cost for water. But we do have a house. And my husband will never be homeless again. But we want to get a used motor home to travel. But we have one dog who gets sick, one who isn’t thrilled with riding in the car and one who loves it as long as he’s really close to you. So I don’t know if we’ll ever own a motor home or not. And my oldest granddaughter is going to have a baby soon. And she wants us to come to meet him. And I would love to. But I may be flying by myself to do that.

Thank you Sandra! I still own my salon in Portland Or but I retired from behind the chair last June to focus the energy necessary on our online biz.
God bless you for being able to be in a small space 24/7! It takes a special couple to be able to do that and still be smiling. I can guarantee that would not be the case with my husband and me. Don't get me wrong, we dearly love each other but we both need some space . 😂. Thanks for the tips, I'm going to look into the towels even just for regular travel. ❤

You're not alone there. I can't give legal advice but I've heard people just....uh....."forget" they have them around those states. I would NEVER personally do that, but I've heard other people might.
