RIP Spice the dog. 19/03/05 to 26/11/18 . Yesterday we said goodbye to our amazing Springer Spaniel Spice. She died peacefully after a whole series of illnesses including liver cancer and Cushings disease. The vet told us at the beginning of the summer of 2017 she would only survive a few months but being a springer with their indomitable spirit and boundless energy she hung on for over a year and a half surrounded by a loving family and community. When she couldn’t go for her walks we took her down the pub where she was spoilt rotten by the locals. But the last few weeks have been very tough. Barely able to walk and eat it was time to say goodbye. We are all heart broken. She came down to Dorset with us as a puppy from London and had the most amazing life here in the beautiful English wilderness of West Dorset. She kept me fit and active and whenever I got stressed she’d come over and give me one of those Springer Spaniel ‘what you need is a good long walk’ looks . And we’d be off walking the land with her running free on top of Pilsdon Pen on a clear spring morning with the sky larks circling above and that amazing view over Marshwood vale and the coast beyond stretching for miles. She was my muse, best friend and soul companion. I wrote this Imagined Village track for her.

She is fine btw, finds the whole thing hilarious and really enjoyed the round of applause from the on-lookers. I guess that generations are fearless. After the ordeals of World War 2 and the hardships of the 40’s and 50’s NOTHING is going to stand between her and her shampoo and set. Silver Power!

That moment when the song of a skylark becomes the lead instrument is sublime. And the view from the top of Pilsdon Pen is the second best view in England. (After the view from the terrace at Chartwell - hey, I'm a Kentish lad of COURSE I'm going to plug my home county!).

no, the point being made was clearly about racism, about how Nick Griffin liked Eliza Carthy because it's english music made by a white english person. If you notice folk music involves a lot of ethnicities (some are very close friends of Eliza) which is why all the folkies stood together saying "we won't support Nick and his claim that this music and country is for white people" because that's not folk is about. Their message is, we don't wanna be misrepresented, folk is for everyone :)

BTNG started as a bit of fun on the Imagined Village tour January 2010 when the Guardian reported Nick Griffin as a fan of Eliza Carthy on the basis that ‘this most arthritically white of genres: English Folk’ is seen by the BNP as the pure music of the indigenous English. We are happy for any tosser to like our music, left or right. We are not happy for them to claim our music as their own on spurious racist grounds.

Last night saw this band on BBC Four. What a great idea for a band. Excellent. Hope the interest in them translates into cd sales.

haven't been to glasto since 1990, wished i'd gone this year just to see these. love the way the young coppers cant dance, reminds me of me. eliza carthy is stunning.
