“How To”: 2016 Scion iA Front Brake Pads and Rotors
The Scion iA, built for only one year and based off the Mazda2, is a great little econo-car for those on a budget.
It’s fairly reliable, and parts for most regular maintenance repairs are pretty inexpensive.
The front brakes are easy to maintain, and for those in need, here’s a simple walkthrough on how to do the job yourself. For first timers, give yourself an hour or two of time just in case something doesn’t go smoothly.

“How To”: 2011 GMC Acadia Spark Plug Replacement
มุมมอง 11Kปีที่แล้ว
Changing the spark plugs on a vehicle is one of the staples of basic car maintenance. Modern iridium plugs can last up to 100,000 miles, so the frequency of changing them is far less, but just as vital. A bad spark plug can lead to serious and even catastrophic engine failure. Thankfully, it’s an easy job that only requires a few tools.

My spare would drop about 2" then stop because the hook was frozen in place holding it. What I did was pull the cable down a couple more inches to prove it was the hook then retracted the cable just enough so that the spring would start to compress barely lifting the spare. I then had enough play in the spare to rotate the mechanism within the center hole of spare and lined up the hook side with a lug hole (opposite side where you can just barely see the cable through a lug hole), then with a 1/4" rod about 10" long fed though the lug hole and against the hook side of retainer, hit a couple times with a hammer to push the seized hook in, then was able to lower the spare the rest of the way normally...worked like a charm on first try!!! PS: I think this will only work with a steel wheel, since it is very difficult to see through the lug hole and with a deeper lug hole you couldn't achieve the proper angle to line the 1/4" rod up with the hook area. I haven't yet decided whether to cut the hook off or lube the hell out of it.

Just a tip I learned dealing with my Chevy Avalanche 2002 1500: My hoist was binding and I couldn't get it to turn (while the spare tire was still in place). It would just turn a little bit and then click and not turn anymore so it would not lower the cable. I was considering cutting the cable and then ordering a new hoist. To remove the hoist I figured I had to wiggle it a bit, but since the spare tire was still attached and tight against the frame, I wasn't sure how I could wiggle it. So next I let out some air from the tire and that released the tension on the hoist and then IT STOPPED BINDING and worked normally.

    • @takeroadslesstraveled6505

Old coolant, low coolant, air in the cooling system, and a malfunctioning radiator fan are all possible causes for overheating when idling but cooler temps while driving. A stuck thermostat would produce different symptoms (stuck open the engine wouldn’t reach optimal temps; stuck closed it would overheat constantly).

I always use a box end wrench when changing. Sometimes that soclet can tilt a little and cause it to slip. Over time you end up with a rounded off oil drain plug. The last thing you need. Box end wrenches just work so well for this application. And I always prefill my oil filter. There is a reason why oil filters have a anti drainback valve. The manufacturer does not want your vehicle to have a dry start which is what you get with a dry filter.
