How do these stupid 3-way circuit switches work?
So just mix and then rub in? Won’t it stick to everything ?
@@aquenture it can. Takes some practice to get the technique down. Switched solar cure resin recently which helps - hanging it in a UV booth takes the cure time to 5 min.
What pickups?
People dont understand how much time and effort goes into these instruments ❤🎉

@EGWguitars absolutely, that's why I didn't want you to think I was dissing it. Definitely wasn't. It's a beautiful looking guitar already

how about those those 2 extra pin no use? can u show which one is to solder for bridge, and neck. so i will just leave the other pins?
actually i followed this and its wrong, i went back to the product diagram and it worked. probably ur demo os kinda reverse
@@yousocrazy1199 it can work either way. Depends on the orientation of the switch and which lugs you use.
@@EGWguitars yah i figured, this video help actually, i was actually have no idea what i was looking at the switch, until i saw this video. thanks
I'm KINDA getting it, but I'd love it if you could go onto the Fishman Fluence wiring diagrams (particularly the Tim Henson's or Classic Cores) and just walk through the wiring n why it's laid out the way it is. I installed mine and they work n everything, but I stared at it for so long trying to think through why it all works the way it does n I just could never fully get it. It's especially confusing because they have the "side coil" wire as well as the "voice 3" wire (AND a 4 pole/5 throw switch, which also have very few- if any, really, videos that go over them; I know it's the same concept as any other switch, but my brain just doesn't get it) so I have trouble applying what I see from all these videos. One thing that really confused me was their "Classic Core Custom Wiring 2 (hum cancelling in all positions)" diagram, where all of the positions have the single coils wired together and the push/pull knob changes if you're on the outer or inner coil. I was wanting to do that, but while keeping it single coil (not sure if that's even possible lol). Sooo if you have the answers to any of that n would want to do a video on it, I'd super appreciate it!
I dont know how to used this with solderless emg set😭😭😭
is this a 3d render
The wood was 3d rendered by a tree. So yes?
what kind of epoxy he used?
That guitar was 2:1 fast cure total boat epoxy. good stuff and great for structural, but for grainfill ive moved to UV cure resin. Can get a lot more done in 5 min cure time than 48 hours.
@@EGWguitars it helps a lot thank you

“It’s Bart’s idea….. oddly”😂😂😂 Bart is awesome… but damn that’s hilarious
Seems a baritone guitar
Well... without diving into the baritone vs bass debate.... it's strung in standard guitar tuning from low E at 41.2 Hz. I love how he makes that voicing work.
How thick are those strings?
Good question. In this configuration, the ZIVSIX is strung from 84-24.
That's sick !! 🔥
Appreciate it. It was super fun to build, exciting to deliver, and mind-blowing to watch as he played it as if he was already familiar with it.
Wish I lived near you guys!!
@@cjgsicknote uh oh…got a broken guitfiddle?
@EGWguitars couple of cracks in my old takamine's cedar top, along the grain, coming from both sides of the bridge, you know the ones!. And another crack just in from the lower bout an inch in from the bound edge. I've retired it until I can get it cleated up or diagnosed professionally at least. Taken the tension off and popped it in its case for now. Bought an eastman e10d-tc to replace it which I've admittedly fallen in love with big style but my old tak is my old tak man!!!
That’s just Awesome! Killer product and a Great player of such!❤️🎸 I am impressed! That’s one beautiful Guitar!❤️

So the hot pickup wire never gets soldered across 2 of the 8 posts? I might need to re-examine my PRS 3-way
@@sbrave not every 3 way is the same, but the vast majority of imports use this one. Your PRS likely uses a different switch, unless it’s an SE
@@EGWguitars I have an SE, with a 3 way, that looks very much like this with the lugs all in a row
After a few re-wires, I finally got it, (each pickup just gets wired to one lug) and damn, if the pickup is one lug off, it will only work in it's position, but not in the middle, when both pickups should be combined. This was a big help, thx again!!
@@sbrave nice work!
My question is: WHY TF ARE YOU DOING IT?
Because it is what the customer wants!
I thought it went without saying, but were we not refinishing, we would absolutely have scored around the tailpiece anchors.
Beautiful guitar! Great idea about the build video-- Just about every guitarist I know enjoys the geeky stuff :D
Thank you 🙏 it’s one of my absolute favorite builds. Aaron was even so cool as to let me borrow it in January to take around NAMM on my first year. Man…. I was nervous on those planes!
What happen. U take metal and put it by pickup. Does it act like if had string over it
Just a guitar the customer had blocked the trem with a socket. I dig it.
What song were you playing on the guitar?
GnR nitetrain
Yeah this is great! Thanks for tearing it apart! I ended up mapping it all out with a continuity tester, but your video showing the insides is very helpful
Sorry for missing your comment. I apparently missed a bunch of notifications. You got it figured out then?
@@EGWguitars Yeah I mapped it out. manually, and that was enough, but seeing the insides makes it much easier to understand. Thanks!
@@tweakrr99 awesome!
Thanks for this clear explanation. I've been three days trying to do a simple switch change! I now know logically how things work. The fact my central position still results in silence can only be illogical! I know I'm doing something wrong - but I have no idea what it is. ;-)
Sorry for missing your comment. I apparently missed a bunch of notifications. You figure out your switch?
@@EGWguitars Hey EGW - you have just given me flashbacks reminding me of that issue! It was a nightmare! Because I was connecting Tonerider pickups, even the boss of the company, Andrew, got on the case! (Tonerider are great). He rang me in person! But all to no avail. In the end I got a Kaish one and that wired up with no problem at all. Perhaps the original one was faulty, but I think I may have missed something. The Kaish one just wired up logically - there was no head-scratching necessary! But both switches were less than £10.00, so I just put it down to a learning experience - I didn't break the bank sorting it out. My new Resonator from Harley Benton is a different matter.....
Good info.
Sorry I missed your comment. appreciate the kind words.
I just got a blue one with Emg pickups in it . Not a scratch on it and it play really nice
LTDs are great!
Man i do not get it. Electronic stuff always eludes me, right now im just staring at my wiring wondering what the heck is going on and im considering just buying a new one lol (if only i was loaded)
It’s definitely a little mind bending at first until you start to “see it”… but it’s all familiarity and repetition. There’s lots of really complex setups then still confuse me. If you want a nightmare, look at Les Paul Jimmy page wiring. Hooooooo boy.
Ido hace a question , i have a thin line telecaster with neck HH and single coil bridge ; they sound finé individually but in the middle position the volumen drops like 50% …. What should I do to avoid that ?? Thanks !!
Without seeing the wiring that sounds like in the middle position, the two pick ups are out of phase with each other. The first thing I would try with the information I have is flipping the polarity of the bridge pick up
I had a couple comments come in on another platform which were good. Specifically asking why I didn’t check neck relief first. That’s a great question and a great reminder for me. It’s the first thing I did. I just didn’t think to even make a video until I was taking the strings off, and even then a reel can be 90 seconds… so I have to be very picky about what’s most relevant to the content. But for the record, ALWAS check relief with the strings on first. In most cases, that’s going to get you 90% of the way. Check, adjust, recheck, done. In this case, the guitar was in for a full setup, so I checked, but I will also straighten the neck to inspect the frets as part of the service. And that’s how we found Mt Everest at the 9th
What kind of measuring gauge is that and where do I get one
@@stevenhirsekorn3444 it’s a notched straight edge. Stew Mac has them, or many places on Amazon for cheaper. Just check and make sure they are in fact straight if you go with a cheaper one.

Yikes. It’s funny how each service modifies the audio signal after upload. Same file went up on Instagram, Facebook, TokTok, and TH-cam… this one sounds like farts.

I've been trying for a week to find a video like this. I'm building my own guitar. Strat body, but a p90 in the neck and a Telecaster bridge, no middle pickup, and I have a 3 way switch. I have been able to get the two to work independent of each other, but the middle position I couldn't figure out. This right here is what I needed thank you! +1sub
That’s amazing man. Thank you. 🙏
Question im soldering a Single coil humbucker in the neck position, when my 3way is in the neck positions im getting the Bridge and neck pickups together
That likely means that you’ve soldered the bridge wire to the wrong lug on the opposite side. Send me a pic and I’ll take a look There’s also the possibility that you’re using a slightly different switch. Most of them are the same, but they can vary. The point of the video was to show how they work… but it won’t be correct 100% of the time .
@@EGWguitars sent it to your instagram
Took lessons from Steve at A# (dont fear the reaper) then later on at the federal way school. Im rockin pretty good now, thanks Steve.
Thanks for the tutorial. I almost understand what you're saying. This is what confuses me. I have this switch that I would like to use for a HH Strat. 2 volume, 1 tone. When you say output, I'm assuming you meant the output jack right? Also, counting from the left, it looks like lugs 4 and 5 are soldered together, number 6 is where the hot wire from the neck pickup goes. Lug 6 and 7 and soldered together. Bridge pickup hot wire goes on lug number 3. Lug 2 and 3 are soldered together and lugs 1 and 8 are not being used. Am I understanding this correctly?
Output CAN mean that, but it really just means output. In this case, output means to the volume pot. Signal starts at pickups, goes to the switch, then to volume and tone, final output to jack. The lugs are soldered together because with this kind of switch you have to use both sides in order to get the middle position to blend the signals of neck and bridge. One side is used for neck and neck middle, one for bridge and bridge middle, and they are both output to volume. Does that help?
@@EGWguitars I get that, I just want to make sure of how to treat each lug
@@byronmakesnoise gotcha Assuming you have the same switch: Lugs 1,2 bridge (or neck) Lug 3 DO NOT USE Lug 4,5 output Lug 6 DO NOT USE Lug 7,8 neck (or bridge) Or you can opt to use 2,3 and 6,7 and not use 1 and 8. (I think that’s how I spelled it out in the video but don’t remember) All depends on how you use the switch. You just have to be consistent.
@@EGWguitars understood. Will let you know how it goes

Very Cool!
I have a question. Most schemes show pins alternating from one side in. Zigzag fashion _-_-_-_- Looking at your explanation the botom would correspond to the left side of your circuit and the top to the right?
I’m not understanding your question
Could you tell me how to do that man . I'm on a quest to Learn how to do this.
Sure man. So first of all, unless you’re a natural, this is truly a practice builds experience thing. And a good cut and buff is dependent not only on time, patience, and skill…. But on the quality of everything that came before. The wood prep The finish application And a lot of people have a lot of different techniques. Many people advocate starting at 600 grit and moving up. I don’t. It’s way too easy to burn through. That’s me. I start at 1000 and work the guitar evenly and lightly until all the shiny spots (the low spots) are gone. Then, or even just before, i move to 1500. Then I do a final pass at 2000. Then buff at medium compound. The then fine. I would highly recommend just doing some practice runs on scrap before diving into a guitar. But I didn’t even take that advice. Lol
