      For us it's been primarily positive. In some ways it's a similar adjustment as when you add another child to the family by birth. My older children had a more difficult time with foster children coming and going and some of the trauma behaviors that they had to live with.

    • @outofthemouths
      @outofthemouths 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes you can always choose to say no given the information they tell you, if you feel like it's not a good situation for yourself, your family or the child. But, because these are often emergency situations the social workers are unaware of many of the details. Once a child is placed with you and you feel it's not a good fit You can do a " 10-day notice" where they will have to find alternative placement within 10 days.

    I'm 36 years old and I've lived in Alabama all my life. My husband and I have been married for 17 years, and we do not have any children of our own. Now, I have been interested in learning about what options were available and more affordable in becoming a foster parent that would like to adopt a child in waiting. Now I know some families don't luck up as fast in finding a newborn baby, but their has been some foster parents for a child in waiting that was able to foster a child as young as 16 months old and then later adopted that child. I wonder if the foster care will be honest with us and tell us the reasons of why this child is in waiting. Does this child have any physical or learning disabilities. Or are they perfectly healthy and just in need of a safe and loving home. And when a child is in waiting, does that mean that the adoption is closed and there will be no conrinued contact of the biological parents with the foster parent who might asopt the child later on? Cause I know some adoption cases are open and the foster mother keeps in contact with the bio mother. But I do worry about how to provide a home for a child that meets all needs required. For one, my husband and I are planning to move into a 60 year old house once we finish restoring and repairing everything and remodeling. This small white house has a new tin roof on it. But we are going to have new floors put in and new windows and I'm going to have new kitchen cabinets put in. There is only a living room, dining room, the kitchen, I want to find a space in the house to have a walk in pantry built. And possibly one with a lock so I can keep cleaning supplies in a basket together away from children that cannot have any access to it. I'm not really sure what most foster do in order to protect their children from cleaning supplies in the house. There is only 2 bedrooms in this house. The master bedroom and then the 2nd bedroom is just next roo ot and it's a pretty large bedroom. I imagine 2 children could share the room either with a double bed or 2 twin beds if they are the same gender. But old houses didn't always have a closet. And this 2nd bedroom does not have a closet. I was going to have one made though. But I'm not sure how long and deep the closest should be if it's ok for 2 children to share closest space. You mentioned something about led in paint. Well, there is not telling I this house would pass that test or not. It's 60 years old. And so before I go and repaint both the inside and outside of the house? Who do I call to coke check the house to make sure there is no evidence of led. And if there is, how can I remove it. Now another issues for safety you spoke of if clean tap water that is safe to drink. Well, it's been issued that we the residence in our city is not suppose to drink the water in our tap. Not even bpiling the water will make it safe to drink. But I do use the water to shower and to wash dishes and clothes. So that is why I and my neighbors stock up on gallons of water plus bottles of water for drinking. We are always in supply of good water to drink. But not from the tap water. And I'd hate to think that something like led in paint or my tap water could keep me from becoming a foster parent. I cannot fix the problem with our water system. But I do stock up on clean drinking water. So will a social worker and foster care accept that? I mean all of my friends who are my neighbors who have kids of all ages do just fine but don't drink the tap water. Only frank water that they stock up. So if it works for them, and for us, can't we do the same? Now I've heard that you have better chances of getting picked to be a foster parentfor a child in waiting that you may choose to adopt 6 months later if 1 parent is a stay at home parent that watches over and takes care of the child at home while the other spouse works. I don't mind being a stay at home mother. But as the child gets older and in school, I might want to work part time or even do a stay at home job of some kind if possible. But I want to know what type of parents are most likely chosen. And what questions foes a social worker ask you about your past and how you were raised and yoir marriage? What specifically do they want to know? And I heard that the government will provide for the foster child's medical bills until they are 18 or sometimes even 21 years old. That they may provide an additional check that isn't much, but is some means to help provide for all of the childs needs for nutritional food, and clothes, shoes, school supplies etc. And I heard some foster children can go to college for free. Now I don't know if it's possible for them to do that I Alabama, but it would be great for the child if they did do that. I don't know if they pay for tuition and books and everything though. I'm also not sure if they wish for the foster parents ro write down every little thing they use that money to spend on in providing for your child's monthly needs. I know it's probably not going to be enough without investing more money into providing for the child, but I just want to have a better understanding of what financial and mecical support we can expect to help us provide for a child in waiting in hopes of adopting. And how long would we more in likely wait if we wanted a baby as young as possible or atleast 1 years old? So how would you suggest for me to fix up this 60 year old house we are restoring and transforming. Who should I call to inspect it to make sure it passes safety standards for a foster care or adoption agency.so that way while I'm at the beginning stages of stuff, I can do what is needed to fix this house in the way it needs to be to pass safety rules. And also, how can my husband and I prepare ourselves and our marriage for the major change that is parenthood in the future? And how can we best learn how to properly raise a foster child d and how to reward good behavior and give unpleasant consequences for bad behavior and do time outs, grounding or taking privileges away when they break the rules etc? Now one more safety concern I have is allowing a child to play outside the house. We have alot of land for them to run and play. But still, they could run towards the highway and there is no fence to stop them. Now, I will have a large portion of land that will be ours. Must I fence all over it? Cause that's ALOT of fence. Or is it possible to just have a certain portion of the yard fenced in so the kids can play maybe in the back yard instead? I just wantto make sure I understand all the rules. And we so not have a pool. But way off in the distance but in plain sight on somebody elses property, there is a pond. So is that an issue that will come up? I mean, it's not like I would ever have small kids outside not being watched by an adult. We would make sure they was in a safe area to play.

    Can they appeal the adoption if it’s open? The visits are retraumatizing her and idk what to do. I don’t want them to appeal it and keep having visits but I also don’t want her to see them the rest of her life

    • @outofthemouths
      @outofthemouths ปีที่แล้ว

      By "open" do you mean the adoption has not been finalized and signed? Or it's been finalized but you have agreed to an "open" adoption meaning there is some amount visits, phone calls etc..? If it's finalized, the chance they could appeal the adoption is slim. If not, then, yes, if they are not in agreement with the terms you want ( no visits) then they could drag out the process. Ultimately, if you truly believe the visits are retraumatizing and will not get better, and you have some proof ( from a counselor or someone supervising the visit), I would go before the court to amend the adoption terms. I hope that made sense and helps!

    • @emilyyoung9285
      @emilyyoung9285 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@outofthemouths It’s not finalized but I’m thinking while deciding to do open or closed that if I do closed and they appeal it she’d have to see them the whole time. I’m a therapist myself and I see firsthand that the visits are retruamatizing, and the woman who does visitation and her state case worker agree. If I allow visits after adoption can they still appeal the adoption for some other reason, or are they not able to appeal at that point?

    • @outofthemouths
      @outofthemouths ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, until it's finalized she will still be allowed visits and if you choose closed and the bio mom doesn't agree, she can drag the process out for quite a while, until it can be proven a closed adoption is best for the child. Once it's finalized, rarely will those terms be changed but she could always try. Often families will choose an open adoption but with very strict stipulations on very minimal visits, like one or two per year, supervised with the option to not allow the visit to happen if the parent doesn't meet certain criteria.

    • @emilyyoung9285
      @emilyyoung9285 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@outofthemouths I don’t think you get my question 😅 You’re saying that they can appeal it if you choose closed adoption but if I chose open isn’t that still a risk anyways that they could also appeal the open adoption just to maintain control over the situation

    • @outofthemouths
      @outofthemouths ปีที่แล้ว

      @@emilyyoung9285 yes they can always but it's very unlikely the terms of the adoption will change if you have abundant documented evidence of what terms are best for the child. That is the whole reason the adoption process takes so long, to give the state and courts enough time to collect documentation to prove what's best for the child and not have to go back to court after finalization.

    • @outofthemouths
      @outofthemouths ปีที่แล้ว

      Most states have FMLA that may cover time off for the placement of a foster child. You'd have to speak directly with HR of your company though. Also, not all placements are "emergency" meaning you don't have to be available to take them in immediately. Sometimes they are already in a different foster home that, for whatever reason, needs them to move or the child may be temporarily in a group home, children's shelter or even a relative that can only keep them short term. In those instances you would have time to coordinate with the social worker as to when they can get moved in and registered at school or daycare. I hope that helps 💗

    I'm happy for you and for him. But my heart aches for the birth family. Only saying this because if the rules were different, if parents could have more access and time with their child, generally, maybe reunification would still be a possibility? Some reunifications might take more time? It makes me wonder if parents are even okay with adoption in the first place, even when they agree to it. Are they doing so because they feel that time is up? :( Sorry, I don't mean to be critical, I understand how touchy and hurtful this is.

    • @outofthemouths

      Thank you for your thoughts. Unfortunately without getting extremely personal, most cases the parents are given extended amounts of time to show progress in the ability to parent. There are often other factors, like a history of older children being removed over and over again. Believe me, I too struggle with heartbreak that all parents and children can't be together 💔. How can you say “God’s plan is always better than ours”? That is so incredibly false, and just outright ridiculous. What about the people who die young from cancer, automobile accidents or murder? What the about people who suffer from disease and illness? What about the people who are poor and homeless? Look around you! There is suffering all over the place! Is that all “God’s better plan” for those people? Do you believe that certain people deserve to have bad things happen to them? Life has NOTHING to do with “God ‘s plan”, because there is no such thing as “God”. The concept of God and religion is used simply to control people, so they believe they need to do “good things”; so they make it to the afterlife and don’t go to hell. I just don’t understand, and can’t get over how so many people around the world fall for the idea that there is some “God” in “heaven” who plans their lives. That’s just crazy! What if that new baby of yours gets sick and dies? I bet I know- you’d say it’s “God’s” plan” so that you would feel better about such a loss. Religion and God are a crutch people use to get through life, where crazy things happen, and there’s really no rhyme nor reason to any of it. It’s chance, luck, good fortune or bad fortune. Some babies are born into wealthy, decent families, and are likely to have good lives. Other babies are born into poverty stricken, drug addicted families in the ghetto, and are likely to have miserable lives. But I promise you, there is no “God” “up there” controlling everyone’s lives, and planning things for them, and it’s just ludicrous that people believe such nonsense.

      I'm truly sorry you feel that way. I agree with you in the sense that not all the things that go on in this life ARE God's plan, we have free will and there IS evil. I don't claim to know all of why things happen but the evidence for God greatly outweighs evidence against him. I know you can't tell from this one video or even our entire channel ( because we don't share everything) but we also have experienced many of the things you mentioned in your comment. I don't think God planned or caused much of it, but our free will and the actions of others..or just living in a fallen world ( not perfection) .but I have experienced God's loving hand hold me through it all. I can not deny that or Him. And no I did not grow up in the church, this is my personal experience. I pray whether you open yourself to that possibility or not that you also experience that same peace and love while on this earth. Thank you for taking the time to watch and to comment. ❤️Val
