    I just passed. If I would give any advice, it would be to know Nmap (switches and syntax), injection attacks (what they look like and how to remediate them), and a general understanding of what each tool does. A really good resource for info is the WGU pentest+ subreddit. The cert is required for their BSCIA program, so a lot of people give good feedback there. Read the answers, then the question, then the paragraph. This can help keep info straight in your head.

    I took the exam today and failed it. Will be looking for new study resources. I took a Comtia pentest+ course for $2k and can’t believe I didn’t pass.. was getting 90s on all my practice tests and reviewed every single study resource the course provided me. The test was weird for me not much about tools and none of the practical questions were anything like the practical questions the comptia study material provided. Definitely need to find another resource and see $2k go down the drain

      I guess the results vary with person. I'm pretty much just starting out in this cyber security field after passing my CCNA, and bought the CompTIA Certmaster Learn, Labs and Practice Exam Bundles for the latest versions of Security+, CySA+ and PenTest+. After going through the materials with thought, and doing all the labs, I took one Certmaster practice exam for each course (~80%), and one Jason Dion Udemy practice exam for each course (~ 85%). With those steps done, I passed all three certificate exams in 3 months on my first tries with final scores each around 785/900. Luckily the Exam bundles have a free exam re-take, good luck!

    • @intelligencequest

    • @intelligencequest

      @jedi6185 at thos point I think the channel can help identify strengths/weaknesses for you, I'd definitely supplement with some written content even something like reviewing the CND objectives with a CySA+ book (there is alot of overlapping objectives) might be more cost effective than the EC council text

  • @James_Knott

    Actually, there is one additional security feature of IPv6. That is with such a huge address space, it's extremely difficult for an attacker to attack. The normal LAN prefix is a /64, which encompasses 18.4 billion, billion addresses, which is a huge area to scan, looking for something to attack.

    • @lewwolfgang9958

      But isn't that still security through obscurity? What of rogue router advertisements? I understand there are ways to mitigate the threat, but isn't the problem built into the protocol by default?

    • @James_Knott

      @@lewwolfgang9958 Funny you should mention that. I'm just watching a video where they point out scanning attacks happen on IPv4, but not IPv6, because the IPv6 address space is too large to make scanning attacks practical. The presenter mentioned the law of large numbers and the age of the universe As for RAs, where is the rogue router? Router advertisements can only come from a local connection. In fact, if you look at the hop limit, it will be 255, which means the RA has not passed through a router to get to your network. To produce 255 after passing through a router, it would have to be 0 when entering that router, which would cause the packet to be discarded.

    • @intelligencequest

      these are great points, I would argue that the large space is both an advantage and disadvantage from a security standpoint depending upon how the networks are set-up: - Certainly the large space makes it MUCH more difficult to enumerate from an attackers point of view, however this can also make it easier for rogue physical device to pickup and use a valid address in the space, that paired with SLAAC can make it even easier to gain a foothold

    This is great video! would you mind clarifying the use of VRF in a segmented network?

    • @intelligencequest

      Absolutely! so in the video above I was addressing L2 segmentation, VRF would effectively allow for segmentation of traffic as it was being routed --> think two sets of clients being routed by the same piece of hardware, but for security, logging, analytics you want each of the client networks have their own routing instances, you can utilize Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF) to route this traffic but maintain separation of traffic and routing tables
