The icons you showed at the start, what is their origin ? Where did the Romans copy mosaic and icons from ? Your lecture has gaps and missing information !!
Make Ghostface, and I'll run 15 miles.
Excellent lesson! ❤
Solomon J Solomon's Samson and Delilah is indeed '' awesome '' it is situated on the stairway wall of the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool [a Gallery well worth visiting] and is a much larger painting than you may be expecting . Why is this dynamic masterpiece missing from the pages of most art history books? as it is worthy of comparison to the much earlier versions of the same subjects by Rubens And by Van Dyck. Perhaps the dismissal of Victorian art by the promotion of Modernism still leaves a slight smell and leaves some art historians feeling uneasy about including such works and artists focusing instead on Turner and Constable as they can be more easily linked to impressionism and later movements. Thank you for another informative lecture.
Beautiful 🎉🎉
That's what I need, a guilt partner!
My ears cringed every time Velazquez was mentioned
Really love your Ask Me Anything. Wish I lived near your area to attend classes. I appreciate how well you answer questions. I have learned so much. I checked out Margaret Livingston. Found the book with the new edition and a website with TH-cam videos. Wonderful information about what you are describing about understanding how the brain interprets color, 3D objects etc. Again, thank you for these videos. ❤
Why not use Zinc White instead of Lead White (toxic) ? I find Zinc White is a good mixing white. Also Lead poisoning is more prevalent than people are aware of. Just the making of any lead products should be banned as it is very bad for the environment and the people working in those areas and around them those areas.. waterways/agriculture etc…… It is not good enough for Art teachers to just be flippant and say.. “ Don’t eat your paint!”! It is a World wide problem. Lead is stored 95% in human bones and the only way that it is found is in an autopsy. But people may have had many underlaying illnesses attributed to lead that was never diagnosed when they were alive….
The only thing that would make this better was if I had the handout!! It would save me trying to record notes on paper.
Handout is free on my Gumroad!
I found the handout free on your website! Outstanding!
Enter Islam and success
Artists encourage others to “just go for it and paint, try your hand there are no rules! Just put what u feel out on the surface. Remember when u were a kid & were free with your paints” .. but all this complex information presented in this video is making it seem impossible to just buy few paints & go for it Can i skip all this info and just delve in oils ? Im already using acrylics & i do abstract art not fine art/not representational art. All this info is going over my head ..it’s really complicating it for me. No doubt it’s all proper info presented here & it’s amazing how in depth it is but it’s scaring me off 😣😖🫣
There is nothing to be scared of! Some people feel comfortable experimenting on their own. I had a rough time when I was self taught so I found it was useful for me to learn more structured info.
However the one thing you should care about is knowing that oily rags in a open garbage can can build up a lot of heat and spontaneously combust. Solution : lay your rags out to dry, or put them in an air tight bag with some water at the end of the day. Other than that, have fun!
I think the “just go for it approach” is more complicated because you have to sort through all of these variables and come to your own conclusions. I need specifics! This is transparent. This is fugitive. This stays wet for days. This makes it dry overnight. These are things I’ve been trying to “learn on my own” for years and there were so many variables I was afraid to even go into my craft room! Everyone learns differently and I appreciate the way Julie presented this material and it gives me a foundation I can build on.
Awesome lecture !🔥🔥🔥 Learned a lot
This is why I ALWAYS use lead white.. Silver white by Holbein..
Fantastic lecture and many tanks from the UK
Thank you for making this available. I did not go to art school and I wish I had
Wonderful presentation, thanks for posting :)
Where R this 5 days exactly?
Thank you for the great lecture!
I soooo glad I find you ALL! To the subject I need to learn a lot.. thanks!!!
The best! Thank you.., I am so glad I found you ALL!
This video is very informative however it's very hard to listen to Garrett because his thoughts jump from one to another back to the first. Starts talking about one thing, cuts himself off, says something else, then maybe finishes the first thought, maybe doesn't. There is no telling. At some instances he doesn't finish 2 separate thoughts and switches to the third. It's very distracting and I wish was edited out. But this his a free video, so I am grateful regardless.
this is amazing! thank you so much
In a brick @ mortar or on Line?
you are one of the best teachers I have ever had. Thank you so much for this very informative class
Is white a color or tint?
Great advice

I HAVE THE BEST VOICE EVERRRR. 💘
Curious how aggressive of a part-time schedule did you do to complete the program in 6 years? Are all the classes available between nights and weekends? Is there a recommended order to take?

DO You WORK w oils?
Beautiful!!! Cant wait to try this!!
Thank you. Is there any way to transfer my graphite or charcoal drawing on top of this oil underpainting, specially for portraits? That's easy for acrylics but I want switch and use oils now. ..... joyce

For brushes...as a last gasp..you can try mustache wax to reshape.
Your content is invaluable for someone who's trying to learn by themselves. Thank you 🙂
Really one of the best sessions and excellent references. Thank you!
Very informative. Thanks
Thank you so so much for sharing this lecture with others! It's really great knowledge, I learned so much, and loved the casual nature of it. I felt like i was there at the school. The captions for the questions were really helpful. Thank you!!!
Thank you very much!
THANK YOU!!!! Love these lectures!
As an artist that stopped doing art in the early 90s, I can honestly say, this is some damn good teaching right here!
Very nice lecture. Thanks. A question about dispose the oily paper towels. If I have such an oil disposal bin like you have at school, when you say you empty it every night, question is where do you empty it to? To regular trash? Isn’t it still dangerous if the rags or paper towels still are going through the drying process?
incredibly good tutorial video and amazing teacher!!!!

Regarding materials, this is the best video on YT.
Thank you so much for talking about it! I always come back to my drawing and value studies after color stops working. Every good sessions of drawing helps so much in painting👍
Vermeer did paint many interiors. But he also painted the “View of Delft”
