Senior Sound Designer | Turn 10 Studios | Forza Motorsport
A New Orleans native, Joshua Gouzy was raised in a family with four generations of musical heritage. He is a graduate of Loyola University with a degree in Music Education and a minor in Jazz Studies, and a Master’s Degree in Music from the University of New Orleans. In his sixteen years of performing professionally, he was the regular bassist with more than fourteen New Orleans-based bands, and has been featured on over 30 albums.
For most people, that would have been enough achievement to last a lifetime, but Joshua knew that there was more to his evolution as a musical artist, producer, and composer. The Sound for Picture and Games program at Pyramind Music Production Institute opened the doors to his passion sound design.
Shortly after graduating, Joshua accepted a position at Keywords, and is on the audio team at the award-winning Turn 10 Studios as a Senior Sound Designer for Forza Motorsport (2023).

WARFRAME // Mag // Sound Re-Design
Warframe has some of the most intense, detailed, and overall beautifully crafted cinematics in gaming, so I had to get my hands on one for a sound re-design. This particular scene features Mag, and is absolutely jam packed with opportunities for creative sound design. I loved every minute of working on it!
All of the sound design was done entirely within Pro Tools, and I used a combination of manipulated samples, original recordings, and synthesis with custom made patches.

is this an overlay on top of a video of the game? or is this a true sound replacement? if this is just overlayed on a video this is mad impressive, especially "tracking" with distant objects and such
Thanks! Yeah, it's overlayed on top. I took a linear clip of gameplay, stripped all audio, and rebuilt it. Everything's done by hand. I did the redesign in 7.1, but unfortunately had to downmix to stereo for TH-cam.

the problem now, the original uses the same sound effect as the ability ingame and you've lost that, and i cant see this version being used for the ingame sound effect the only thing that i feel this improves on is the sound of turbulence and objects whizzing past the observer, otherwise it just doesnt match the overall sound design of warframe anymore.. interesting proof of concept though and good to see the perspective different designers have to offer, this gives it a more cinematic and realistic feel, but warframe to me is meant to be a power fantasy and a fever dream, and making minimal sacrifices in terms of representing the gameplay at the forefront. i'd like to see this same approach but including enhanced versions of the games sfx as opposed to their realistic noise counterpart
I appreciate the feedback. I approached this as if it was a new IP, and there are no pre-existing signature SFX for any characters, for neither cinematics or in-game. As you said, more of a proof of concept. I do totally agree that Mag's signature sounds are just 🤌

That's some crunchy unsettling sound design. Loving the flittering string textures like flights of dark birds. Act 3 is actually pretty disturbing stuff heralding a reckoning for the protagonist. Great work and good luck.

@@JoshuaGouzy Yes I can hear that. At first glance this video appears to be nothing more than a languid zoom in but it packs a huge emotional punch with the narrator and the incredible actor portraying so much with subtle expressions. A superb piece to score.
Couldn't agree more! I went with the idea that the voice and sounds were all happening in his mind, calling back to his memories as a less-than-ideal human. As you said, a reckoning for him.

Hello, and thanks for the compliment! The visuals in the timeline on this video are a condensed version of what's actually going on behind the scenes. Each instrument/section has 3-5 layers of different virtual instruments within them, each with a different MIDI starting point in the timeline. For example, the 1st Violins are built from layering 4 different sample libraries. I think it would, unfortunately, end up being extremely confusing to interpret if I released the MIDI files as-is. I'm glad you enjoyed the music though!!
