The Story of Alexander Graham Bell (1939)
A classy biopic of the inventor of the telephone, which was for a while called the "Ameche" in the movie's honor. Stars Don Ameche, Loretta Young, and Henry Fonda. With Charles Coburn, Spring Byington, Gene Lockhart, and Young's sisters Polly Ann and Georgiana. Directed by Irving Cummings.
I don't own this movie; I just want to give it a wider audience.

This marvelous bit of fluff stars Loretta Young as a prim, repressed nurse who unleashes her wild side when sleepwalking. Joseph Cotten is the hotshot lawyer who warmly receives her advances, if with some confusion. Also features Cecil Kellaway, John Ridgely, Irene Ryan, and Basil Ruysdael.
From Chicago USA, Like the story and its subject. Despise the unrealistic aspect ratio distortion....(images appearing too slender and tallish).
What a cast! Loved the movie because of the cast... I do imagine it's 90% dramatized BS though.... Remember Washington confessed he cut down that cherry tree....

Is it true that the renter (woman) claimed the law allows her to keep Bell's possessions in the room if he didnt pay but he can leave? A 19th century law of somekind
The day the Bell system was broke up telephone service in the USA and around the world has become SHIT !! How about leaving something good alone !! Great movie.
😂this is so beautiful and amazingly 👏 very funny 😄 😆 ❤ 🎉
Somebody advice me: to whom write appeal for permission to use part 1-3 minutes from this film in my video (not for earning purposes)
Complete and utter American RUBBISH. Alexander Graham Bell was a SCOTSMAN born and bred in Edinburgh till he was 32. Then he emigrated to America. He was still a BRITISH subject when he invented the telephone.
planet earth do not forget over charging to get rich and or rich co. profits and paying u poverty wage then - not sharing ok wage is taking your share n gauging u all to the point of stealing = thieves , over taxing u for overpriced and over spend on military when they should spend less on military around the world and not give away your money to any rich wages or rich co. profit government contracts as such bad use of your money they are thieves also , and biz and government killing the planet the way they do biz n warmongering is stealing destroying killing the planet that is all our homes so stealing -thieves from us all

Genius can't be stolen for a given idea with it's full potential. An Idea is generated in thinker's mind under peculiar circumstances and them can't be copied or stolen because time of conceiving such ideas is unique due to all required ingredients for the idea. Thinker's mind is like a fertile land and the science of keep the land fertile is only known to the thinker. Thief is a thief and thinker is a thinker and such person does not care about Idea being stolen. Actually unique Ideas are generated in sincere person mind.
Quel bonheur ces deux là. Loretta et Joseph❤❤❤❤
Fun movie
It always amazes me the Providence of the Lord how he alone gives every one there name Mr Bell, the phone bell rings we answer it . 😎
Jesus made a man speak who was born without speech.❤️
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💖💖✌✌🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I read somewhere that Loretta Young forfeited the rest of her contract when the studio changed Mabel Hubbard Bell to hard of hearing instead of deaf. Young had even prepared by visiting a deaf school (even though, in fact, Mabel was raised with an oralist education and had a falling out with Gallaudet).
I am so grateful for all those who have that 'spark of genius' that benefits the world to date. ❤
The nurse with Loretta at the start of the movie is granny from Hillbillies.
When this movie was produced.. Hollywood was in the business of tooting the horn of America's glorious history.. Now Hollywood does everything it can do to bury our history... It's also one reason so many people DON'T KNOW OUR OWN HISTORY.. other than the dark side that we conquered and now they want to stir that dark side in a pot of hate..
Bell did not invent the telephone, he stole it of a other technician
I can't think of the name of the song that was played off And on during the movie most noted when she' was dressing up in her green dress it's a big band song
Loretta had such a beautiful dace🎉 and the green 💚💚💚💚 dress she wore wow 😯😯😯 cute movie nice to see a younger cute spunky Irene Ryan
Face
What a good wholesome story for all
Absolutely delightful! 🎉❤🎉
@scottishinvention!
This is a horrible print of the movie. For some reason, the normal aspect ratio (4:3 or 1.33) was squeezed inward from the sides and everything is distorted. You can even see that as they masked each side of the picture. Excellent movie if you can find a copy that isn't all f'd up.
Isn't it cool to see GRANNY CLAMPET looking young and cute!
This is just the out of the box love story, and it's funny and unforgettable experience
For me this was a great movie, the girl was in a trance state,,a double personality where she wants to marry his childhood sweetheart
Great movie
16 mins 30: Lovely film, but a chuckle when there was a knock on the door and Loretta looked up towards the sound....😊 🇬🇧😊📞🦉📽️🇬🇧
See you gst stupid because your ego is not withdrawn from your personal care of people and shut up sounds the sane here at rA Rzs
I know someone said fell on love wantedcto marry his back therapist after an accident but I suspect was the pain free times appreciated notvthe actual person doing the work.
I'll call you on the Ameche. Funny that the telephone was invented by a man named Bell. Thank You!
Little strange but I did enjoy it! Thank you for showing it!
I had no idea Granny was a nurse prior to her career as a Hillbilly!
Weird
This is one of my favorite films.
I mean FUN!!
So run seeing Irene Ryan, the original Granny from the Beverly Hillbillys!!
2:59 Goodness no one recognizes nurse Kay with Loretta Young, that’s a young Irene Ryan, who is also Granny in “The Beverly Hillbillies”! 😊
I'm sure he would be horrified if he could see the world now addicted to the phone and the spread of misinformation.
💚🙏😇🙏💚
An endearing and heartwarming reenactment of the historical story of the invention of the telephone. Very well done. 👍🏽👍🏽
Excellent movie 🎥 and a blessing of our history worth remembering.
Granny Clampett, yessiree!
Delightful!!
I love how she made that green dress go from drab, to fab!
Good to see Granny in a different role for a change. It's 2024 now in the 1970's I watched Granny in the beverly hillbillies.
