i was just telling my youngest kid stories about his grandpa and going to flemington to watch midgets/modifieds run…thanks for uploading this footage..brings back some good memories of being a little kid in the grandstands trying to pick up the tear away goggle lenses and getting burnt by adults cigarette cherries while walking in the crowds..80s were a dangerous time for a lil kid haha 😂

My father new you. You took many pictures of our 2 antiques. Nmbr 52 n T72. One is is a 40 Ford the other 35 Ford sedan. Wondering if you have any film of these get togethers? My dad is deceased now but if I can find some stills and or videos to show his grandkids n great grandkids, it would mean a lot. I remember Norman Pengelly out of Quakertown, Ray something out of Horsham near my dad, John Burkhard. Esp remember a little antique modified that was just awesome, went toe to toe with modern modifieds till he got punted n destroyed. I thought he ran with a flat head. Spent a lot of time at Flemington, Grandview and wall stadium. Bridgeport also. Only one time we're both cars out at same time. My dad in one and my uncle in the other..

Always enjoyed listening to Bill Singer announce. He had certain ways in using words in which no other announcer has done. Like "down the back ", "down the front ", # three corner". R.I.P. Bill. I've missed listening to you announce very much.

Ah Flemington. Rookie Sportsman ran their own division. Top 3 would make the Sportsman (was 339 ci, later 358 ci) small blocks at the end of the field. This might have been the second to last or last race of the Rookie season that year. They usually ran 10 races until graduation and the crowning of the Rookie championship. In this case, Allamuchy, NJ's Guy Howie won the championship in the 19. He later moved up to big block modifieds, running the John Burnett engine/chassis combination. Guy had a temper and wound up getting kicked out of Flemington, among other tracks. Had wins at Bridgeport, Lebanon Valley (NY) and Thunder Mountain before retiring. Owned a 360 sprint car and ran with the URC for several seasons. I last saw him in the pits at Williams Grove in 2013 and he was already in ill health. Helped work on his 19H modified at Nazareth and for Super Dirt Week.

I have not seen any pictures or video from there in quite a while but damn....I'll probably be up a while just remembering.........

I can still hear the track announcer say “Biiiiig Tom Hagar!” Spent every Saturday night there as a kid. Chip Slocum, Ken Johnson, Ray Bateman, Elvin Felty, Doug Hoffman, Billy Pauch (boo) lol. We used to travel to a bunch of tracks. Syracuse, US13, East Windsor, Nazareth, Bridgeport, even one down in Volusia FL one time. But Flemington was home base. My friends dad drove sprint cars. Not world of outlaws but the other ones, that I can’t think of.

Man, this brought a tear to the eye, I must admit. Thanks so much for posting this video. In 1981, I was a freshman in high school and my dad would take my little brother and me to the races every weekend. I was always a huge Sammy fan, hell, we all were. He always raced clean and put on a great show. I remember my brother and I imitating Bill on the way home in my dad's Plymouth Fury III, yelling... "And coming out of the short chute, it's SAMMMMMYYY BEAVERRRRSSSS!" :) I wish I could get in a time machine and go back to 1981 to re-live everything that Flemington was about in those days. The sights, smells, sounds... glorious. I remember taking Rt 523 from Whitehouse Station to Flemington and the "whoop-t-do's" (what we called the little hills) on that road that dad would speed up for, just to get a little light suspension action going on the backside of them. Easy to do in a boat, like the Fury III :) He knew we loved it and it was part of the ritual of heading to the races. We'd usually end up parking on the other side of Rt 31 and walking across to get to the track. You knew if you were jumping over a bunch of puddles on the way in, because of a recent rain, that the track was going to be fast! Dad would buy us each a bag of peanuts, we'd head to the turn four bleachers, knock the black clay dust off the wood in our favorite spot and sit down to see one of the greatest shows that ever was!
