I have yet to have a bad reaction to my hobby in late years, I had some crap when I was in highschool, but as an adult, never was a problem.

Tell me something, why a man has to explain his wife about having a hobby when his wife has a closet full of clothes, purses, make up, shoes, jewelry, etc.? now if you have to explain your girlfriend I have no respect for you.

This also happens with my parents that they really wants to destroy my entire retro game collection that worth millions of dollars.

if i die, i'll be too dead to be embarrassed and worried about the lack of value i know my wife will get back on my shit. she won't be able to get all the little accessories together and matched up to sell shit right. it'll be a fucking mess. we've all thought about it and we all know if we die suddenly there's either gonna be alot of shit in the trash or alot of motherfuckers getting our shit real cheap online.

You and my husband have similar interests, My husband collected 3 inch Gi Joes since 1985 (age 5) My husband is an Air Force brat and loved military toys and he collects it along with our son and i love him. Before i met my husband he was in the military served from 2005 to 2015 we married in 2012 and he deployed after our marriage. My husband deserves his peace he deserves everything he worked hard for and i am happy he can enjoy himself. He loves the 1/12 Gi Joe classified and he kitbashes many of the 1/12 figures to look like the men who served under him. Never be ashamed of your hobbies it’s your peace in this world. I collect 6 inch and 1/6 Anime girls (i’m Japanese i’m an Otaku).

My man, you gotta get these in hand. Neither have dead eyes and FT is absolutely beautiful in-hand. I was going to grab the XTB too until I saw in a review how un-sturdy the leg mode is. It may still make a cool figure for who’s interested, but I’m happy with FT for sure.

It might just be me operating in a non-mainstream Bubble , but it seems like the fact that Toy Collecting is a thing for adults would be common knowledge at this point. Personally, I don't have any qualifiers that would make the Toys & buy seem less like Arrested Development to someone with that preconception. I do like pieces that are classified as "Collectables" "Adult Collector", "Not A Toy", etc. But I also dig Lines that are unmistakeably Toys. My favorite figure style is the MOTU 5.5 Buck. As I was just noting elsewhere, I never felt the need to distinguish my appreciation for Box Art from a Gallery Painting or my appreciation of an Action Figure Sculpt from a Bronze Statue. It's all in the realm of Aesthetics.

I'm a new mama, almost in my 40s, and I collect figures/vehicles. Granted I "only" collect scifi horror (so Alien, Dead Space, Doom, Thing), but I love this shit. Certainly don't understand women who are against this hobby. If only for a monetary reason when it spirals out of control.

Sounds like the biggest difference between the Men & Women in the examples given was familiarity. They had similar reactions, but the Women come across as more genuine. Basically once they had a visual, they got it. If the guy is a Collector (even if it's a small Collection), it's kinda weird that it would take so much to understand the toys were for you. It is like he was feigning ingnorance until you gave him an All-Clear that it is socially acceptable, or he was just trying to be relatable for conversation's sake.

And your collection look way more fancy then mine it's all about the display case...classy

I am a major collector of rare toys animatronics life size movie props in every room of a 2k sqft house everyone love my shit lol.

I didn't tell my girlfriend I collected toys. I told my toys I collected a girlfriend. 9 years later, she and I are married.

Depending who you dating. Toys are toys, but I wouldn't consider statues and figurines to be toys though. Most people I date either like my statues, own their own statues or even buy me statues for my birthday/Christmas.

My ex pretended to appreciate my passion for collecting not just figs, but geeky collectibles in general to the point she would listen to me talk about my stories on geeky stuff. I did my part as a partner pretty well,but we ended it. But when we had that terrible end, she told me that it was childish and I should go out more. And from those words, I used them as fuel to just continue on with my passions.

I mean everyone in the world likes movies or films. Athletes, rappers(lots of them have anime inspired jewelry),hard working men, woman of all kinds, etc. So most people aren’t surprised when I have statues or displays of a character from a film. I’m in college and almost every friends dorm I went to has some type of fictional art. Whether it’s a figure of an anime character or marvel artwork poster etc. film and entertainment is a huge part of life nowadays. Look at the nba and nfl players with Lego collections. Or the rappers like juice wrld, trippie redd, and xxxtentacion who are all into anime and have songs and music videos modeled after it. Geekier hobbies have become I feel very common with most men nowadays because of all this influence.

It changes when they realize a professional artist and sculptor works on each piece. They realize it’s artwork of a character that millions of people like.

New subscriber, I gotta say every person collects something. People you would never expect collect figures,art, play video games, collect cards. Something of that likes. Myles turner the nba player has a Lego collection, now we all know that no woman is going to say anything to him. Heres another example, everyone in my family knows I’m into art. And I collect but I also use 1/6th scale figures for the dioramas I make. Having a nice display in your home can take it into another level. Especially if it’s movie related, people will look around like it’s a museum.

This reminds me of my younger days before and at the beginning of my action figure collecting! Your hobby should be for your well being and as long as your life's affairs are straight, all is good! Before collecting figures, I would tell ladies that I watched a lot of Japanimation (the word they used before "anime"); sometimes I would get the usual statement: "cartoons are for kids", but for those with an interest, I would show them "Urotsukidoji" or "Ninja Scroll" (IYKYK) - surprisingly, most ladies I showed that to were not sicked by those anime! FFWD some years later and the first line I started collecting was the Bandai Godzilla Movie Monster Series - there was only 1 lady that told me that she couldn't rock with someone who was "into that sort of thing". That was a bullet dodged on my part, thank goodness, but after that, I never had that issue again. FFWD some more years later and my wife is the reason I have a "mancave" as she purchased my 1st Arcade1up machine (I desperately needed a place for it)! So now I have a room full of figures, several 1up machines and a multi-console gaming setup!

I’m only 22 and a I’ve been collecting anime scale and a few resin figures from shows and games that I like and man it really is art with the sculpt and paint work for these figures

I told my wife to throw my stuff away. Anybody can keep what they want, but don't try to sell or salvage anything. I'm 37. I think about it. A lot.
