Applying to nursing school | Grades & Test Scores
Hey I'm in RN school, but I'm recently divorced and am starting my second job soon, so I think I'm going to switch to LPN. All I want to do is long-term care, but I'll feel guilty if I switch programs. I'm concerned that I physically can't survive 2 jobs full time plus RN school, so what I'm trying to ask is this- Do you feel that you get to spend a good amount of one-on-one time with your patients as an LPN vs if you were there as an RN? I'm a CNA now, and I'm also worried that if I'm an RN, all I'll basically be doing is computer & meds when what I want to do most is the actual bedside care. I just can't survive on a CNA salary. Any tips on my switching from RN to LPN, please? Thank you. I really appreciate your video!
Honestly I’ve heard the RN program is little more slower paced than the LPN program and it may be easier for you to work. I think that because LTC is normally short staffed you don’t get to spend much time with your patients whether you’re an Lpn or RN. If you feel more at peace switching to LPN I’d go for it, but in my honest opinion I’d stick with the RN program while you have the opportunity because of LTC burns you out you’ll have much better job options and better pay. I hope I was able to help!
@@Brithenurse Very much! Thank you so much for your time! You're a great teacher.
Don't like school? McDonald's is hiring ❤
Well tell that to the thousands of ppl that wish they could go but can’t afford to. Or to the ppl that have no choice but to take care of their sick family members. Some people don’t have the luxury to not attend school just because they simply “don’t like it”. Have a great day. ❤️
❤❤
You should have been way more prepared before you made this video
Guess I better keep my day job

I’m not gone lie I love the message hun but the video and you itself is hilarious 😂 😂❤❤
CNA exam is very difficult to pass, I can't believe i failed after studying with so many materials😞
Sometimes it doesn't matter how hard you study you also need to pray to God for success
@ very correct
I have a cousin who never studied much, we studied together but she gives most of her time to her phone than her studies after writing the cna exam last month she passed and i failed😢, i asked her how she did it, just found out she got help from Mr Richard 🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭🫢🫢🫢🫢🫢
Please does anyone know who this Mr Richard is? I really need to speak with him I'm frustrated 🥺
Wow so sorry you failed, i have heard so much about Richard but I don't actually have his info
How much do they pay RNs in Georgia? Whats the hiring process like', does it take long? Do you have to hsve experience in Corrections to be hired or is experience in acute care hospitals enough'?
I’m not sure about RN pay but I came from acute care prior to being hired and for agency the hiring process is pretty quick compared to being hired for a staff position.
It really depends on what you want in life. If you want work life balance than nursing isn’t for you period. You can be an LVN put in those 60 hours a week and make 6 figures. If you need an expanded lifestyle than you can be an RN work them 60 hours and get the mini mansion you really can’t afford and never retire. So in essence just do what makes it work for you but there’s no 1 fits all solution it’s gonna be trade offs. You got ppl who are doing well that are mechanics because they have no debt they’ve been invested since their 20s and they keep their lifestyle below their means. Also yall got to take into consideration nursing can be a physically and mentally taxing career and most of us will probably be taking out a lot of debt to get that RN and if you’re young cool you got plenty of time to pay that debt off
Get tot the point already. Geez Louis smh.
lol thanks for the view 😊
Relax girl. It's oknto cry..we are here for you. You been there for us. Let it out babe. Cry that good cry that brings fit relief.
I watch multiple vids for corrections jail and prison nursing. I haven't found one yet that can give just a ballpark for how many incarcerated "patients" one med pass might be. I have only read overwhelming stories of nurses having 90 inmates on one med pass. Is that possible? THAT is what is keeping me from following through for onboarding. That's beyond to me, it would be non stop the entire shift.
It really depends on the facility location and the population of the county, so I would start there. And not only that some patients don’t get meds everyday. Some inmates have chronic illnesses and get meds everyday and some have temporary conditions that may only require them to be on meds for a couple of weeks, months etc. You also have inmates that leave and are taken off med pass and vice versa with new inmates that are added on. I’ve worked at a small facility where med pass takes about an hour and a bigger facility that took about 2 hours. Sometimes there’s more than one nurse and med pass is split between the two. Hope this helps a little.
@@Brithenurse I can understand what your are trying to share with me. I may be going in to a very big state prison in California, very high full capacity. I would hope there would be a co-nurse for whatever unit I'm sent to. At this point it is an absolute mystery for me as I am waiting for gate clearance etc and truly don't want to hardship out because of the shear volume of the meds.
@@sarahchandler695 I see what you’re saying and I hear prison and jail are kinda different but most nurses prefer the prison setting because it’s more routing and structured. Try to see if you can shadow a shift for a day before committing to the position, also try googling “correction nursing all nurses”, it’s a nurse forum online and many nurses give their insights and opinions. Good luck with everything , keep me updated if you can!
@@Brithenurse happy to receive your replies. My disadvantage is that mine is an upcoming 6 mo contract, that won't allow me, the candidate to shadow. That is precisely what l would like, but can't. I have no idea what's behind those walls at this point, but will say l have zero interest in the jail setting at all 100% volatile! Prison inmates have been processed and not coming in off the street impaired etc. I have been on all nurses for many yrs. Thank you dear!
I was in. the RN program, but my school closed so I had to challenge the LPN test. In Florida and California if you get so far and are in RN school. they will allow you to challenge the. LPN test.
Would you mind sending me more info about these contracts or at least what company to contact? Thanks!

Not true. I’m an RN, that is not true
Would you ever start IV’s and give IV fluids in the corrections setting
Yes, I never had to personally, but the physician can give orders for it and we had bags of fluids and IV kits for inmates. You draw labs too.
Hello sis 🤗 I have a question about language. Do you need a strong language? Because my second language is English
Not really as long you demonstrate critical thinking and do your skills correctly! Being bilingual is typically a plus!

Can you have your phone on you or in your bag ?
I was allowed to have mine on me at both of the facilities that I worked at, but some nurses have told me that in maximum security facilities you have to leave your phone in the car and they give you a phone to use in there.
With what agency ?
Maxham
Do you apply after you’re in the nursing program?
Yes because they say they will not pay for pre-requisites
Yourr lucky in NJ LPN we're phased out of hospitals few years ago.
Wow, I’m shocked because of how short we are in nursing
@Brimadonna Yea they use multi skilled tech which do ekg and phlebotomy etc and pay them 18- 19 or so an hr
@@samo2072RWJBH & St. Peter’s in NJ hire LPNS
Do you have registered nurses in assisted living?
They mostly work in management in the assisted living setting, but not really on the floor passing meds.
@@Brithenurse ah nice to know
Congrats on your new position! Would you recommend LPN or going straight to RN?
Thank you, and if your end goal is to be an RN I would go that route because it’s only a year longer and because the Lpn-Rn can be frustrating finding a school and just motivating yourself to go back is a lot. But they’re both great careers just more advancement with RN, hope this helps!
Can you do a video on what you did to prepare for the NCLEX PN
Yes mam!
I am 62yrs and am doing my prequisites for LPN. I hope I get a job at my age. I just do not want to be a PCA anymore their is no money there.
You will most definitely get a job! Good for you for going back to school, you got this!!
Try BHW.HRSA.GOV and source of financial support
I hate being a LPN. The pressure is real. And tbh I don’t wanna go back because I love nursing. Cause tbh being a nurse has made me hate it. I am only anxious to go back because I feel like I am stuck. Like stuck wage wise opportunity wise we are limited. And livin in the northern east coast the cost of living is insane. Also us LPNs are not given grace. People look down on us. I can count how many times I’ve been at an assignment and was asked by people who were only school aids asking me what kind of nurse am I and if I was a HHA. It’s highly offensive that if I am a nurse you need to know which one I am because you want to know how you should treat me. Not to mention the jobs don’t be wanting to pay us. Unfortunately, I can’t go back because now we have to be Covid Vaccinated. My college is offering the bridge program and the lady who is runnin the program (or so I think that’s who she was) told me that if I am not vaccinated the program is not for me.. she didn’t even offer me to come back when I decided to get vaccinated she simply said if you are not vaccinated then this program is not for you. Am I canceling your appointment? After hearing her say that I came to the conclusion that maybe nursing isn’t. Cause now all I’ve come across is people in charge who are not understanding.
Ugh that's so frustrating, I'm sorry. My biggest fear is not being able to make it through nursing school because I don't want to get the covid vaccine. I'm willing to make whatever accommodations necessary but it really feels like you are unwelcome if you are not vaccinated, and hearing your experience made me even more doubtful that I can succeed in this field.
@piccolopete8747 Yup that’s exactly how I felt. Unwelcomed. So I said you know what it’s time I find a different career cause I do not like being nurse.
@@KeyaReneeMonroe I wish you the best and hope you can find a career that you enjoy and feel appreciated in. Do you have any ideas of what you'd rather do? Again I'm sorry that you experienced that.
This is 8 months old but how do you like working in correctional? I got exposed to the environment through an old hospital I teched at, they rented a floor out to the prison. So now as a nurse I want to try it.
Honestly, it was one of the easiest jobs I had as far as job duties, but you have to have thick skin and don’t let anyone manipulate you because they will try it, men and women.
See that's what I'm nervous about. It is the main reason I want to work there, to toughen my skin. How was if for you? Did it grow you personally or just professionally?
Both! I learned how to handle myself better when I’m being disrespected and faced with confrontational inmates. I learned the rules and regulations of jail nursing and every decision i made was based on that and I didn’t have any problems. Documentation is key!!!!!! Good luck to you!
@@Brithenursewhat State do you recommend? I didn't like corrections in Arizona
@@teady012002 I only have experience in Georgia. A coworker of mind did an assignment in San Diego, Ca and she liked it. There are travel corrections groups on Facebook you can check in to

Critical vs stable?? Chile who critical in the ALF🥴😦
Lol you’d be surprised, a lot of these facilities are for profit and will take patients that should be in a nursing home
I do not miss these days at all!😬😩 one nurse and and one med tech to 50 ppl smh.
Me neither! And then having to wait for someone to relieve you … nope
keke palmer twinnnn
lol, I’ve heard this a few times
What made you leave the assisted living facility?
Wanting to go to the hospital so I wouldn’t lose my skills.
Passing the CNA TEST is when you study hard, if you can’t study or you don’t have time for your studies I’d advise you get yourself a help like Mr. Albert
I passed mine after studying hard, I’m not discouraging anyone just say do whatever you believe will help you pass
Nice words
My wife subscribed his questions and answers, which she got after 4days
I think his just too lucrative and perfect for this job 🙃😋
I thought of becoming an LPN. (Here in L.A it’s “LVN”). I’m a Massage Therapist & the stability of healthcare is tempting to me. Might sound like a silly question, but are you on your feet for the entire 7-8 hour shift? Or just when you pass medications/other duties?
Go for it! There is a nursing shortage due to the aging population and nurses are retiring. And for this particular job I was mostly on my feet during med pass/duties. I had a good amount of down time.
Me too the stability!
I was trying to become a medical assistant first than move to lpn is it better to go for cna then lpn
I think so, because you get to see what LPNs do when you’re a CNA and you’ll get a good foundation of patient care.
I’m trying to go for lpn in Atlanta do they have any school that’s in the evening time
Not that I know of, I think South college has a flexible schedules

if you’re in GA, I’ve actually found quite a bit of LPN to RN programs, but I don’t know where you live at in GA so it could be different for you.
Yes there are a lot it’s just the population here makes everything so competitive
Im a cna and ive been working as a cna for about a year now and i do like helping others but i have really been giving alot of thought to becoming an lvn or lpn but im just scared of the huge amounts of homework and the nclex that you have to pass.
I'm an LPN and passed my NCLEX (my whole class passed on their first time) on my first try. I'm not going to sugar coat it for anyone, LPN/LVN is the hardest program compared to any nursing program (RN) and this was said by both my professors (both have their masters in nursing). Please prepare yourself financially before committing, because a lot of girls had to go on per diem while in school. This program is full on dedication and it's hard, but it's totally worth. At the end of the day make sure it's something you truly want to do.
Don’t be scared, just think of the end result!
@@pinogirl3321what did you study to prepare?
