The Frugal Foodie Mom
Canada
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 12 ม.ค. 2022
Welcome to my channel!! As a mom of a large family, much of my day is spent in our kitchen! I will be highlighting some of our favourite go-to recipes, as well as trying out new ones! I love variety and I love flavour, so that always leads me into some new territory.
I also will be sharing my journey into ways to become more food secure. We don't all have acres of property to grow or raise food (though that is a dream for our family), so I will be exploring ways we can just start where we are and begin to provide for ourselves. I have started growing microgrrens and am excited about 'kitchen gardening' as well as using vertical planters to grow herbs and even some veggies. This is my first year doing both of these, so you can start along with me and we can do this together.
Besides providing some of our own ingredients, I am also starting to make more things at home that were usually obtained in a grocery store.
Come, adventure with me! Be inspired!!! YOU can do this!!!

We can and freeze mega amounts of bone broth throughout the year. Bone broth is so delicious and so incredibly good for you. While canning and freezing is great for preservation and convenience, having it powdered takes up so much less room and frees up my jars!! I got my new freeze drier in November and it has hardly stopped since!!! This freeze-dried cheese is a game-changer!!! I don't grate mine, I use the S blade in the food processor and chop to crumbles. SO much quicker and less cleanup!!!

Surviving My First Week!!!
มุมมอง 135ปีที่แล้ว
My first week on my own at my new job!!! To many, this may seem like no big deal. However, for me, at this point in my life, and with all the challenges I've been through lately, to pull this off at any level is monumental. There are no words that could adequately express my gratitude to those who have stood beside me, behind me, and watched over me from above. To those who believed in me when ...

Make Your Own Taco Seasoning PLUS You May Never Peel Garlic AGAIN!
What were the settings you used?
I used the candy mode setting on my Harvest Right. Do you have a Harvest Right? I used temp of 140F.
That is a difficult decision. I think that I would make it purely on the health issues and my own feelings, and assume that teleportation is an option.
Still always looking forward to your recipes! ❤ Those are such big, scary decisions you’ve been having to make and you’ve got us all here in your corner. ❤❤ I think I’d make the same choice if I were in your shoes.
Thank you sweetheart. I love you. 😘
Thank you for this update! Your account has helped me make wonderful food for me and my family, we're all very thankful! I hope you stay safe in the cold weather, and i'm praying for you!
Thank you very much. This means a lot to me. ❤️

Where I live the hotel medical discount was only 10%. The radiation also kills off your white blood cells, I believe. I wish you all the best in your future.
Thank you very much. ❤️
Thank you for sharing an update on your health! Take care of yourself and I pray that you have continued good health 🙏 ❤
Thank you, Donna. I didn’t come this far to just come this far. 😉❤️
@connieembleton we are ALL Survivors of something and we become Warriors because of it ❤.
Glad to hear an update on your health.
Thank you, Marion. ❤️
I let my dough rise in the refrigerator ,over night 12 to 18 hours, comes out fine than add my raisins and more cinnamon
Does the dough not deflate when you add the raisins?
@connieembleton you have to do a second rise in a warm place, I put mine under the oven light
❤
i really appreciate for your content!
I appreciate that!
@connieembleton tnx a lot! if you dont mind i have a some question for you, what's your goal in this platform?
I love watching your videos when I’m cooking especially. This is so powerful ❤❤

@@katieaustin5883 Mmmmmm....sounds yummy!!!! Love and miss you like crazy!!! 😘
You popped up in my feed and on a whim(I *thought* it was a whim), I clicked on your Update video. That lead me to this video,...and by not even the middle of it, I was in tears. I felt it. And I felt what you were allowing perfect strangers to hear. I kept sensing a feeling that I didn't quite know how to identify off the bat. But as I continued to listen....it didn't take long to realize that it was a deep sense of of pride for you. As batsh*t crazy as it sounds coming from just one of those perfect strangers; yep, I felt proud OF you and proud FOR you. At least I *think* that's what it was. 🤔 Was cheering you on! And while putting my groceries away I just kept acknowledging how much INCREDIBLE COURAGE, AUTHENTICITY & TRUE CONFIDENCE it takes to bare your bones to the world. Takes much more character & dharma to do that than to do what most people do,...which is bury them. Xoxoxo
Thank you so very much!!!! How incredibly humbling and encouraging. I appreciate you taking the time to share this with me and hope we can 'speak' again. I am hoping to do another update soon... <3
To make your video more helpful content, maybe show setting your temp, drying time and the other settings. Otherwise its just content and not very helpful. I'm happy you were successful.
Thank you… I really appreciate the feedback. The whole freeze drying thing is a huge learning curve, and I’ve just been kind of winging it. Lol I will try to be more specific and detailed :-)
What settings did you use for this?
Do you have candy mode on your machine? I changed temperature to 145F and made sure to turn candy mode on when prompted. I did no warm trays and I left them in for about 3 hours.
That’s wild to see them go from the small hunks to puff balls!
Very nice ......
Thank you! I’m having a blast!!!
That is a brilliant way to be able to take bone broth to go. Pretty much everywhere you can get a bit of hot water and get a well not meal itself but something that is warm and filling. I do find a cup of bone broth on cold days very fine and ŵarming.
So good for you as well!! 🙂
Just wonder if it actually saves money using the electricity it does?
That is a very valid question. I don’t exactly know the answer except to say our hydro went up about $20 for the past month and except to defrost, ours has hardly stopped.
That seriously blows my mind! So cool! ❤
You’ll have to try some!!! ❤️
I’m totally gonna try this! Colin and I are bad for not eating a good breakfast before work. These look real easy! Ps. I loved your “wait a sec” moment 😂
You caught that eh???? LOL They reheat really well too. I don't eat breakfast very early so I take them with me and heat them up later. Could add so many things... :)
Sometimes I think when a thought comes to mind, I should stop the video, write down the thought, and then continue with the video. Otherwise, here I am, at the end of the video, and my thoughts are all over the place. <sigh> So, this time, I am going with the flow and praying that it all makes sense. **Jesus knocking on your door** I wish He would knock on my door. I am way past the fleeting thoughts of how my place looks. I don't really care anymore. Growing up with a passive-aggressive mother who would say things like, "Oh, your place is like a doll house." Or, "I tell my friends how your house is always so cute." And, at other times say, "I guess I just don't understand you kids anymore." I don't feel the need to impress anymore. But, if Jesus were to knock on my door, I would let Him in, but ask for forgiveness for the mess, rather than trying to quickly clean up before opening the door. Then I envision myself sobbing while trying to tell Him why I feel so miserable. You're not alone in your feelings. And I can't help but wonder if it has more to do with our age and less to do with our circumstances. I will be 63yo in May. My parents were 63yo when they passed. That is something else that I'd talk to Jesus about if He knocked on my door. I've already told my doctor that I don't want to go through all the preventative exams anymore because I will not be doing chemo or radiation if something were to show up. I already take too many medications and the only thing I would add to the mix would be palliative care meds. I don't want any kind of artificial life support. I'm not giving up, I am just drawing the proverbial line in the sand.
But, back to the sobbing, I feel so danged hopeless. My brother avoids me, my oldest daughter has been out of my life for over 10 years now. I watched her youngest son's graduation on TH-cam. I'm grateful that his school posted the graduation ceremony. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have seen it. My youngest is so in and out (of her own doing), I feel like I should have a revolving door. This is what I told another friend earlier today, "Oh, wah, wah, wah... I'm sorry. I shouldn't complain. But, I do. And they make me feel so inadequate and unloved and unwanted. Sorry... my feelings are really dark today." And it's true. My feelings have been running dark lately. Surprisingly so.
I have Greenstalk envy 😆. I did buy the smallest one last summer and planted basil and sage in it this year. My garden this year consists of mostly herbs because they grow so well and we use them all the time for cooking! Happy gardening Connie ❤
So fun to see this! Thanks for sharing!
New 'adventures' can be nerve wracking, whether work, travel, or personal experiences; but once you've managed the initial steps you seem to always find it easier to move along. I recently experienced this and was relieved that my prior knowledge/experience allowed me to flow through what I was nervous about in the first place. Trust yourself going forward Connie - you've tons of experience and gained tremendous knowledge in so many different aspects of life. Also try to keep this in focus: sure a younger person may complete this or that quicker or in a shorter way, but WE hold experience and knowledge (equates to wisdom) which is of great value! Remember previous similar experiences and how you succeeded then and let that encourage and strengthen you moving through another challenge. You got this girl!
Thank you, Sandy… So encouraging! Hugs to you and Steve.
I can totally understand how you must feel dealing with the insurance stuff. I am a precert specialist and have been handling all aspects of health insurance for over 12 years. It is very complicated and every insurance plan is different and there is so much to know!!! That part of your job alone, is overwhelming, I'm sure. I can't imagine having to schedule appointments and all of the other stuff by yourself. I will tell you this, in hopes that it will encourage you. You will learn all of it in time and then you will be able to take care of those insurance tasks really quickly. Make a list of the requirements for each type of plan and anything else you see as a pattern so eventually, you won't have to look all that info up or call the insurance plan. You can just refer to your notes and then eventually, you'll have that all memorized and you won't even have to look at your notes. IT DOES GET EASIER! Hang in there. I know you can do this. Give yourself some grace.
Thank you so much! It means a lot :-)
Awe, dad’s a gem🥰🥰🥰🥰 So happy for you momma!❤️ In no time you’ll master everything!

Congratulations on your new job, that's very exciting news !!! Having gone thru the same grievance process as you did I too can't tell you the outcome but what I will tell you is, once again I lost way more than I gained!! Im glad it's all over, I feel like I can finally have closure and heal the wounds from the past 3 years!!! I wish you all the best with your new job !!
Donna, it’s hard to explain to someone who hasn’t been through this, how traumatizing this has been. I’m sorry that you too have had to endure this. We may not have walked away with a huge settlement but our integrity is intact and we sleep at night knowing we have been true to our gut convictions even when it cost us.

That looks totally awesome Connie - I'm always trying to find new healthy ways for the grandkids breakfasts. I HATE sugary cereals. When my kids were growing up, there was no coco puffs or fruit loops - junk cereals. But every year, on their birthday, they got to pick out one box of junk cereal for their birthday week. But this looks so yummy and nutritious.
Thanks!!! Let me know if you try it.
Thank you ma’am! This was delicious!

Yummy. We love Peruvian chicken and that unique green sauce
Well, I hope this is somewhat authentic! I could drink the marinade, and use the leftover green sauce as a salad dressing!

Here you go Connie.... ..Genuine English Muffin. RECIPE FROM DELIA SMITH WHO IS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE BEST OF UK TV COOKS. INGREDIENTS 1 lb (450 g) strong plain flour 1 rounded teaspoon salt 8 fl oz (225 ml) milk 1 level teaspoon caster sugar 2 level teaspoons dried yeast EQUIPMENT You will also need a thick solid-based frying pan or girdle and some lard. Measure the milk and 2 fl oz (55 ml) water in a small saucepan and heat until just 'hand hot', ie, so that you can hold your little finger in without it burning. Now pour it into a jug, add the sugar and dried yeast, mix it with a fork and leave it for about 10 minutes to get a real frothy head. Meanwhile, sift the flour and salt into a large mixing bowl, making a well in the centre, then pour in the frothy yeast mixture and mix it to a soft dough - it should leave the bowl cleanly but if it seems a bit sticky add a spot more flour. On the other hand if it seems a little dry add just a spot more water. Now transfer the dough to a flat surface and knead it for about 10 minutes by which time it should be very smooth and elastic. The dough can go back into the bowl now. Just slip the bowl inside a large polythene bag (a transparent pedal bin liner is ideal), and leave it in a warm place until the dough has doubled in size. This will take about 45 minutes or longer, depending on the temperature. When the dough has risen, lightly flour the work surface, then tip the dough out and roll it out to about ½ inch (1 cm) thick. Then, using a 3 inch (7.5 cm) plain cutter, cut out 12 rounds, re-rolling the dough a couple of times again if it starts to get puffy. Mix the scraps and re-roll as well to use it all up. Now place the muffins on an ungreased, lightly floured baking sheet, sprinkling them with a little more flour, then leave them to puff up again for about 25-35 minutes in a warm place. When they are ready to be cooked, grease a thick-based frying pan or griddle with just a trace of lard, then heat the pan over a medium heat, add some muffins and cook them for about 7 minutes on each side, turning the heat down to low as soon as they go in. You'll need to do this in 3 or 4 batches but they can be made well in advance. If you want to serve them in the traditional way, all you do is break them just a little around their waists without opening them, then toast them lightly on both sides. The correct way to eat them is just to pull them apart without cutting and insert a lot of butter. You can store them in an airtight tin for about two days before toasting - if you have any left over.
That's awesome!!!! Thank you so much!!! Will be making these for sure!!!
This really peeled my interest! I always want to like English muffins, but I find them too sweet (no idea if that’s just in my head lol) so I’d be VERY curious to try this! 🥰 Looks delicious!!
