Ocean slip docking with wind and current.
We have had requests for harder flip docking in wind and current. This is a challenging situation. In this video we have strong wind and current both moving the same way. This is one of the hardest situations boaters encounter. I hope this helps you!!

This is a great way to use very little dock space and allow many other boaters to utilize docks without hogging space. This works in tidal waters as well and keeps your boat protected from getting banged up against the dock.

Preservation on the water

This video is dedicated to those of us that want to continue to ride or ski on the water as long and as un-abusively as possible. Many people are intimidated to continue getting behind the boat as they either get older or are just not interested in risking an injury. Here are 5 things that are not abusive but still fun to do. Also, as good an exercise routine as any gym or yoga mat will offer you.

This was my dream boat in 1987 when I started skiing for Cypress Gardens. Watch as this old beater comes back to life!!
Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge & “tricks” - no Captain is too experienced to disregard the basics! Fair winds, following seas and happy Holidays!🤙🏼
Best video on this. Thanks
Thanks!
I always carry an extendible paint roller pole, with an old roller frame. Once I have one cleat tied off, I use the pole to pull me in for the next tie-off. I'm too old to be running back and forth like that.
Incredibly helpful, concise, and well done!! Thank you! Liked and subscribed.
You sir a real real BEAST, thank you for your help
Great video!!!
I love your videos. I just completely renovated a pontoon, which took 2+ years because I've never owned a boat before. I finally got to drive it and my girlfriend and were dropping F-Bombs as though it was wartime. With your advice, I believe that we can now eliminate the stress, tension and fights. Thank you..!!
I"ll echo what others have said. This video made it so much easier to understand than some of the others. No shade against the others, they say the same thing but they say it in a different way. As a new boater who has struggled with docking I used what I learned in this video to dock the boat 4 different times today in four very different conditions. For the most part I had no problems. Thanks Dave I appreciate the help
Love the Top truck for bridges, etc. That was slick.
Excellent information and instructions..
you made it look so easy 🙂
Great video!!
Oh boy so much to learn on docking.
Seriously the best docking video I’ve ever seen. I’m a rookie boat owner with an I/O. I’ve had a hard time turning my boat in the correct direction. I watched this video once and my confidence was at an all time high. I can now control the boat perfectly and going out with my family is much more fun. Thank you so much.
Thanks, Dave. Going to rent in the Wisconsin Dells next week. Many moons ago I drove my Dad's and brother's ship, but this was a FANTASTIC refresher course for me!! Mahalo Nui Loa!
Great and easy instructions. You are a good at teaching. Keep it up.
Very good instruction. Thanks!
Regarding operating in the marina and docking, the captain who taught me said this many times- "Never go faster than you want to hit something" 🙂
Words of strong wisdom
I can't tell you how much this video helped my docking skills. Best docking video I have viewed!!!
@@gpabrown8225 thanks glad you enjoyed it
Nicely done - thank you for this!
With a right handed prop is it easier to pivot turn clockwise vs counter clockwise or no difference?
A right hand rotation prop will pull toward the left when backing up. This is most prevalent on an inboard boat obviously as the prop shaft is stationary. But on an outboard or IO the pro will change direction and allow you to pull backwards either way.
how do you do those two items when you have a strong cross wind?
Hi Jay, Here's a good one with wind and current. th-cam.com/video/wz6v0HrYHrE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=OWclHZ_XExKvOPO8
@@davebriscoethewakeboardcoa838 Thanks. My situation is we have a few restaurants on the lake that have a double well, so there is always another boat either on port or starboard when we want to dock. We don't have much current, but always have a cross wind.
@@jaybangert1066 Hi Jay, If you have cross winds try to use the wind to your advantage when available to blow you toward the dock the will naturally blow you away from the other boat. If this isn't possible set your fenders out before you dock to help eliminate direct contact with the other boats. What kind of boat do you drive? how long? inboard, outboard or IO?
@@davebriscoethewakeboardcoa838 We have a pontoon 25 ft. Typically the wind blows away from the dock and into the boat. When I have another person on board, it’s not a big deal as they help keep me off the other boat. Was curious on any tricks when your boating by yourself.
@@jaybangert1066 Can you send some photos or video of the docks and the situation? I can then give some advice of what I would do.
Hey thanks for the time always been a power boater just recently purchased a tritoon info should be a big help thanks
Best video on the internet by far. More docking and leaving dock (parallel parked situation)
Thanks I plan on making some within the next week.
Looking forward to it. Best teaching style on the internet by far.
Can't wait :)
Everybody kept saying just give it a bump. Now I know exactly how to bump. Thank you!
Ha ha glad you got some good stuff out of it.

Very well explained. Thank you
your very welcome
Thanks a lot Sir
Excellent tips. Thank you! Great memories, as I grew up on Lake Roy!
Almost crashed three or four times this year at the Dockside in Torch Lake, Michigan. Tons of boats, high winds, and not a lot of room to maneuver in the channel. I think I lost five years of life from the stress.
Great information that was easy to understand and follow 😊
I feel so much more confident about taking my boat out for the first time today after watching your video. You’re a great instructor and simplified this perfectly for me. Thank you!
Your very welcome feel free to ask for specific videos and I'll keep making them.
thanks for explaining it slowly and clearly.
It’s very easy to follow your instructions. How about doing a docking method for inboard motors?
So why would you prefer to dock against post on the outside as opposed to the boards. My thought patter is the bumpers yo have hooked on your boat will keep you away from the dock better as opposed to trying to keep a bumper between the boat and a post? Help me understand this I just bought a brand new tritoon and want to protect as much as I can from damage
Your boat has a rub rail built onto your boat. It is the widest point of the boat and designed to protect the rest of your boat. When you have an exterior post this is what your run rail comes in contact with. So you don’t need fenders in this situation regardless of the height of the water.
@@davebriscoethewakeboardcoa838 I guess that would make sense if the posts were all straight a verticals. Lol I belong to a seasonal camp ground docks are horrible
Thank you for making these videos!
Thanks!
Fantastic video, Dave. You are short and to the point. You are also a very good speaker and instructor. Thank you, and keep making these wonderful teaching videos!
Great video.

Thank you
Thanks for your help
Thank you for your instructional videos. You have me (a new boater) more than you will ever know. Much appreciated and I'll keep learning everything that I can from you!
Awesome vid.. excellent tool to put in my box👍😎👌
Excellent video! Thank you!
New to this. Because the boats going to be in the water swaying won’t it scratch the boat? How do you prevent that?
