Proper voice placement - spasmodic dysphonia
Tim, I love rewatching your videos! Honestly, I’m struggling a bit and appreciate your encouragement to avoid Botox and SLAD-R. For those who say you don’t have SD, they must not hear it as I do. Your voice is a goal for me! Thanks for continuing to share.
Thank you, may you tell me, have I Dysphonia I uploaded the video on my channel
10:31
Thank you Tim!! I definitely feel a difference after the exercises, my voice the last few days has been the smoothest I have heard it in ages! Looking forward to speaking with you on facetime this week hopefully. Anna x
Cheer~~~active or occurring spasmodically or intermittently--not regular or steady.😅
Your videos give me so much hope! I've suffered from spasmic dysphonia for eight months now. And I will do enerything I can to cure it naturally
I’m so glad I found you. I’m gonna start watching your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Glad I found this! Thank you. I’ve had SD for almost a year. Great to hear your story 🙏🏽
Thank you for sharing your journey to healing. And I would like to ask you a favor, can you make a PLAYLIST, with videos in corresponding order. Much appreciated.
Thanks for the video. I appreciate you very much. I get so tired of not being able to talk with family and friends. The isolation is terrible. Have a Merry Christmas!
I would be happy to visit with you by FaceTime to encourage you as well as talk about what worked for me. We only fail when we surrender. You can do this! You can be victorious!
Thank you for meeting with my husband and me in Branson! We both appreciated your advice and hearing your clear voice. I work on my voice hours a day now, which isn’t as hard as it sounds, Gentle humming seems natural now. I’ve started working on pitch and relaxing so my air flows easier. Tim, thank you for sharing your experience. Many of us have seen multiple specialists and it’s nice to be understood. God bless!
Thank you so much for sharing. I wish Dr. Cooper were still practicing.
You are suffering from Abductor or Adductor SD?
Adductor, but the mindset and process is the same for both conditions.
I appreciate every video you post. Thank you so much.
Thank you a million! - desperate SD girl
So good to see another inspiring video from you! Bless you for your encouragement to us all .....I was having some hard days voice wise recently and feeling like a failure.... again...I was trying to remain positive and defy this "voice demon " as you aptly put it. But it's hard!! I'm doing better again and praying for continued healing a I keep on. Your positive post was just what I needed. You really sound great....a true success story!!! God bless and thank you!!! Happy Thanksgiving 😊
Thank you for making these videos and encouraging us!
Can you explain in detail the "hum" that you used? Ive been diagnosed with MTD but now she thinks it might be SD after voice therapy hasnt worked. Thanks
I thought true SD is only helped by botox or the SLAD-R surgery? Were you checked for MTD? They are often misdiagnosed.
That’s also what all my doctors (before Dr. Morton Cooper) told me. They were wrong.
Thank you so much! God bless you. This was so helpful 🙏🏾
Thank you so much! I got SD overnight when I got highly upset at something my granddaughter wanted to do that I felt was wrong and yelled about it. I am confident that I will get the hang of this, as my voice is getting better (it's been 11 weeks)!
Can you share who your Dr was who helped you navigate thru the healing process? (I can’t find the video where you mentioned it). My wife is really struggling and we’re desperate for help. Your videos are helpful, but “the how” is still a mystery in many cases. We’re also looking for a nationwide directory of medical professionals who can help us like your Dr did for you. Please help with any information you might have. Thanks so much!
24 with spasmodic dysphonia. got it last year and lost everything. My job, My girlfriend. I swalloed the no hope pill, but I'm digging deep to remove that pill and seek a cure. Your videos are truly inspiring. I will be practicing your methods and strive to reach your clarity one day. I wonder if anyone else has gotten this disease as young as me? I would love to be apart of your support group should I be granted the opportunity.
Thank you for doing this video, Sir! I've been struggling with SD for 3 years now. I cried a lot because of frustrations, I am losing confidence and can't have quality conversations with my family. It makes me really, really unhappy. I will practice my breathing from now on. Maraming Salamat! Thank you so much!
Thanks I enjoyed your video been working a lot on my sd or muscle tension problem. 18 years now. Refused Botox. I will keep on trying to read and speak with breath support thanks again
Thanks so much for your video. I’ve been dealing with sd for a few years and am grasping every positive therapeutic suggestion bc like you I’m determined to overcome this. I love your suggestions about forcing air flow through the alphabet and practicing. I’m going to do this. Thanks so much!!!
Thank you so much for the inspiration and encouragement. It is very much appreciated.
Thank you for your videos and I hope you will make more because a lot of people are seeking help with their vocal issues. In 2015 I had a severe case of flu along with laryngitis, which I'd NEVER had before. It took about 3 months to fully recover, but subsequently, my voice seemed to slowly get weaker, deeper, and less consistent, and one of the most predominant things now is that there are certain letters in words that I cannot say smoothly (for instance, "R" and "W") and it sometimes feels as though I'm not going to be able to get those words out, thankfully I do, but they're broken, and at times there's a breathy quality that makes it even more difficult to speak. I do believe humming helps, as does speaking or singing through a straw, but I need to get on a strict regime of those two techniques. I have a history of hyperventilation, and most likely, I've never really breathed "properly", so I have no doubt that improper breathing plays a role in SD. There are a few other thoughts I'd like to toss out here for consideration that might help others and I would love your feedback: I think the flu/laryngitis did play a role, so that's a physical component, but I've also had a great deal of stress the past several years, including sad issues related to a couple of close family members and I believe the emotional impact of that has contributed to my speech issues ... call it a blocked throat chakra or anxiety, but I've read that negative and sad emotional situations can definitely affect one's voice, and I believe it and that aligns with your point about having a "happy voice". Optimism is very important - I am by nature, an upbeat person, but I think we can all agree that being upbeat and optimistic is not always easy for people, especially in these crazy times in the world. Two other things I've noticed that might offer some clues for others: A correlation between digestive discomfort, most notably bloating, and nasal/respiratory congestion and how that affects the voice. For me, I have not yet determined if the bloating causes nasal congestion or vice-versa, but they are usually present at the same time and oh boy, my voice gets worse ... I believe the fullness of the bloating pushes on my diaphragm into the throat area and affects breathing and in turn, results in breathier and broken speech, and it stands to reason that nasal congestion could affect your voice. The other night I took some Guaifenesin syrup, and I don't know if it was strictly a coincidence, but the following day my speech seemed a bit smoother, so I'm thinking of trying a regime of Guaifenesin for a few days and see if that helps and if it does, that would be a telling factor. The point I'm trying to make is that I believe there are multiple factors that can either be the foundational cause of SD or can exacerbate it, and the key is for each person to determine the cause and then address it. My two cents worth. 🙂
I also have same issue. I feel this is my story😢
Does this also work for general muscle tone dysphonia? My scalene muscles are tight as truck tires and clamp down around my vocal chords even though my heart rate variability and stress tolerance has improved to 91 out of 100. (It was 51 of 100 when I started this journey so stress shouldn’t still be affecting this). I have learned to talk by breathing in instead of out but that often makes me aspirate and cough
Have you always had this problem, if not, when did it begin? What were the circumstances of the beginning of your speech struggle? Are there times when you can speak plainly for a few words or sentences (breathing normally)?
I'm assuming Dr. Cooper has retired. Is there anyone else who has taken over his practice or a way to access his exercises?
I would like to face time with you.
Susan, I would be happy to visit with you by FaceTime. Please send me an email at btkidwell@yahoo.com and we can arrange a time. Tim
This man’s guidance helped me get my life and voice back. It took 3 years to be able to converse about 80% normally, and after 4-5 years, my voice is 99% normal most of the time, and 100% some times, but nobody ever knows I have SD as Tim has taught me how to overcome it. It is a long, hard, boring process. You can either spend the time it takes you to recover by doing these voice exercises, or you can spend the rest of your life struggling. The choice really is yours. I too, will post an update video. My SD diagnosis came in 2016 and you will hear the difference even from my earlier videos as I was learning to speak again. Thank you Tim, love you brother!
Thank you so much for sharing this. I often have to tell myself not to accept that “no hope pill” Are you on Facebook ?
It’s funny that you say a voice demon because in prayer I ask God to free voice from anything binding it. I believe it can be a spiritual thing as well. I was just sent your video from a friend with the same condition I met thru a Facebook group. Thank you for your encouraging words as I’m starting my journey on finding a remedy for this. God bless 💖
Dear Sir, so happy to see you back sharing your testimonies.
Thank you for all you share with us. It gives me hope and encouragement to keep practicing your tips.
Spot on---happy voice! My SD is better when I'm not all doom and gloom!
Thank you so much for posting. You give me hope and inspire me to keep on practising! 🤗🙏🏼
Tim, keep doing videos. They're inspirational. Thanks.
Thanks for that tip! You are always an inspiration to me, and all of us I'm sure! We can do this!! But it takes alot of spunk and like you said, optimization to keep going even in the bad days. I'm 18 months into recovery and not where I want to be yet but I'm alot better and confident I'll keep getting better!
Thank you! Your words provide hope and encouragement, and that's hard to find in the SD world.... 🙏🏻
I agree with the other comments. Please don’t stop posting. It truly gives us encouragement to keep up the good fight! 🙏
Which type did you have? I had ADSD for years then after COVID I acquired AB so essentially mixed SD. I appreciate your tips so much.
Thanks so much. I needed this encouragement today.
Please keep publishing. You help me to hope.
thank you so much!! you are giving me hope and I´m in tears just by your generosity. Thank you

Today is October 16, 2022-I found your videos on Utube, after 14 doctors, 3 ent’s and a devastating diagnosis of SD, 2 long years, 3 speech therapists and no voice improvement, desperation brought me to you. With refusal to succumb to the traditional treatments, after watching your videos, I ordered doctor Cooper’s books online, 3 in total and read two in one day and just finishing the third. With daily practice of proper breath flow, reading out load 3x a day, blowing bubbles into a water bottle, humming in my car, I am finally finding my proper vocal pitch, and I am regaining correct usage of my voice. Forcing the air out with various pitches I am improving daily. We all have learned to speak on no breath, m*sk wearing during the last two years without proper oxygen intake took me to this very dark place of speaking with no breath support. Yet, there is help. I am in this for the distance as a speaker and realtor, providing daily property tours and presentations, my voice is my everything and with this method and daily walks in nature-beach, trails, and exercise, I am here to tell you that I can speak again; the struggle is great! Yet, practice is easing my stress of speaking on the phone, in person meetings, regaining confidence, and hope and faith in God through His healing power is working. Send me a message and find me on instagram at LongIslandHomesAndEstates ; would be happy to connect with anyone needing a bit of inspiration. To the Pastor above, I thank you. God bless you, the angel sent to me from above. ❤
You gave me so much hope with your video's! Thank you very much for being here with your voice. You inspire me very much. At the moment I can speak very well when walking (then I breath more deeply then normal) and speaking on my own. But as soon as I talk to another person it gets stuck again! Very frustrating. With loved ones I now walk in circles a little bit to be able to talk, but as soon as I sit down it get's stuck again. I haven't spoken much over the last seven years. Never pick up the phone. Need to find a job, but dare not apply in person with my strangled voice. It is easy to forget to talk (practise) when on your own. So putting an alarm every hour on my phone helps, and I am amazed how time flies every time the alarm sounds (me time). You are right about lazyness we all want a miracle! Now I realize that I am the one that needs to do it. I feel I am improving step by step. 🙏🧡
So greatful hearing your speech, It gave me new hope. I' m suffering from SD adductor type for last 3 years. I read Dr. Cooper's book, tried humming. Your words give me new inspirations. Plz give more vidos so that we can practice with hope and inspirations.
