8 day clock
Final version of my 8 day clock
I made this clock with involute gears
I also wanted to try and compare cycloid gears and lantern gears, did not work out too well so I gave up, for now
Excellent link to learn more about cycloid gears in clocks and watches:
www.csparks.com/watchmaking/C...
Is involute a valid profile for horology? Check out this study:
www.openmovement.org/documents/OM10_Untersuchung_Raederwerk_24.pdf?mc_cid=31af043e59&mc_eid=2fec404d01
While Cycloid with the right setting might be the best, Involute gears are also a valid and quite good option

pin pallet escapement
มุมมอง 2.4Kปีที่แล้ว
An experiment in designing a pin escapement. STL files here: cults3d.com/en/3d-model/gadget/pin-escapement-model The original design can found in this book here: www.watkinsr.id.au/buffat.html In the watch the pins are 0.2 mm, in my model, pins are 1 mm the arbor are 2 mm The escape wheel is about 38 mm in diameter The original has symmetric pin placement, I changed that to get a even impulse d...

My rook Mod with motor on bottom based on th-cam.com/video/JbOr9a6ECg8/w-d-xo.html Made changes to have motors on bottom end and bed with bearings on diagonal. Also 2 Z screw on same diagonal to minimize binding with 2 bearing on each rod for more stability
3D printed 8 day clock experiment with lantern gears
มุมมอง 1.5K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I rebuild a version of my clock with lantern gears and it did not work as well as planed I believe that the lantern gears would work quite well for a 3D printed clock, the friction of steel pins against PLA should be minimal. But it did not work well, the clock kept stalling I finally realized that the clone Prusa Mini I just built was not square on the XY plane After a few experiment I found t...

8 Day Clock
มุมมอง 2.9K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I have been working on a clock that could run for 8 days I designed an efficient escapement with 1 mm steel pinson the anchor and 3 D printed escape wheel The gear ratio is 1/8 x 1/5 x 1/5 x 1/5 = 1/875 With a 50 mm drum and a pulley I get an 8 day power reserve with a little over 1 meter of drop of a 3.5 kg weight STL Files here: www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-clock8-280569 More details...
pin Escapement Clock prototype 2
มุมมอง 1.3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Slowly making improvement on my 8 day project clock Remade front frame to have better view on the pins of the escapement Improved the pendulum suspension with a 0.2 mm guitar wire Got to version 9 of the escape wheel, without bearings Feel like they are not needed with such low load, about 2 grams of pressure at pins And it simplifies the build

hi, beautifiul video!! Is it possible to have the code to generate the gears? Thank you in advance
I Jacques very very notable your work, complimenti sinceri. Eugenio.
I am not able to edit the gears, please help
Thank you for posting this, I learned a lot. I do wonder why you are able to make such selections, where I have to first project items into the current sketch. But with doing that, it worked flawless!
hey mr. jaques favre thankyou very much for this lesson!!
I just finished a diy 3d printer. After watching a few videos on your channel, I love to build the clock now
How weight can move up ? I don't understand how it's work
Amazing!
Do the hands move discretely though? By that I mean, does the minute hand only click to the next number at the top of the minute and does the hour hand click to the next number at the top of the hour? If the time is 7:30, the hour hand should be on 7 and the minute hand should be on the 6. The hour hand should NOT be half-way between the 7 and 8. I mean ... I know every clock NOW does it that way, but they used to be built so the hands moved discretely and I'd like to see that come back.
Hi I have built one but it does not continue to swing, what am I doing wrong, thank you
can't believe i'm saying this because it's a mechanical clock BUT that looks complicated.
Dear Jacques what kind of a spring/metal did you use for the balance spring? It has been driving me crazy, because with 3d printed PLA i can't get it to have enough force to spin the wheel back.
Hi Jacques! I was wondering why doesn't my spiral have enough power to rotate the balance? I've used your files by the way
thank you very much, very helpful. i have seen many watch escapements online but not the first one from Huygens with the horizontal gear. Great work, respect.
Great… I want to try this in school holiday
Im actually working on a startup project, your videos are juste amazing thanks for that
brilliant fusion work

Thanks sir ..... but the speed was too slow. I had to watch it at max speed with lowest quality and still my toddler was able to see it. Thanks sir.
Nice tutorial, thank you.
Excellent tutorial. Here both wheel are rotating. I wonder... Is it possible to change a bit the animation to make one of the wheels stationary and the other one "walking" around it?
Thanks for sharing
Клас 😊❤
Дякую вам за працю 😊❤
These are awesome
pretty good tutorial
This is absolutely fantastic job! 👏👏 Thank you 👍🙏
Interesting project... I have a question: -What is the length of the pendulum rod? - What is the mass of the pendulum's load? Thank you....
Very nice! 👌
Очень крутое и простое объяснение процесса создания шестерни
Cool
Good but really quick.
Download
great work!! so helpful
Nice video! But way to fast! 😅
How do the drum and gear 80 go together with the rachet? You just assembled it as one piece.
You knowhowto use that software ..how long have you been using it, and just as hobby or do you use it for your dayjob?i just got into 3 D printing just a few weeks ago, am getting my way round onshape, that was , for me, the easiest to start with...but i would like to make a mechanical clock myself, just dont know where to find the info
There is a guy who has a TH-cam channel called JBV creative. He made a clock that you can buy the files for. Not as special as making it yourself but still cool.
Спасибо тебе за чертежи ... ПОПРОБУЮ ОТЛИТЬ ИЗ МЕТАЛА .... радует что без денег.... молодец мужик
Jacques do you have linkedin, WhatsApp, telegram, mail or something to get in contact with you?
А почему маятник сам не начал движение? Что за ерунда!
Please sir can you make a video on how to use freecad to design a complete swashplate for 4 blades installed 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Legend. Thank you
One thing I am still struggling to grasp, is how to determine the needed radius for an escape wheel. I have planned out the sizes of my 2nd-4th wheels and my pinions, but so far I can't figure out what radius escape wheel I will need to work well with them. If you have any insights, or resource recommendations it would be much appreciated! Thanks for the wonderfully informative content!
smaller is less friction, but smaller need more prescision in my roskopf watch I was able to go as small as 40 mm for the escape wheel , printed on a Ender 3 and I use module 1,2
Thank you so much for making this video. I was able to design my own escapement from scratch with a varied design based on this video based on Abbey Clock's work. Very helpful! My design keeps time for about ten seconds then stops. I modified the wheel and notch on the fly because of time and that is why my clock is suffering. Hopefully I will redesign another one soon. I also used an aluminum wire for the hairspring... Also suffering. Buuuut hopefully I expect to get some nylon filament for a stronger spring and hopefully that will make the movement more functional. My next steps are to design a barrel spring based escapement. Thanks again for doing what you do!
Excellent travail. Incroyable, l'horloge sur 8 jours donne une si bonne heure.
Ravi de l’apprendre. La mienne marchait bien aussi+/- 1 min par semaine
Are the files available?
👏👏👏👏🤔
👍👏🤔 Parabéns 👏
That's so much helpfull for my project thanks !
