Lo-fi fun with a Roland TR-606 and Behringer TD-3 getting squashed by an Alesis 3630. The Roland TR-505 provides some support and the Yamaha DX100 puts in an accent or two. Reverb from an Alesis Quadraverb. I had a 3630 for a brief minute a few years ago and thought it was shit as I just tested it on a master bus but I came across another recently and gave it another try - the TR-606 absolutely loved it! It's much better when used as a creative effect - definitely not a utility device.

Love this song and the lyrics are awesome! Keep it up 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for the support!
Jesus Christ those claps and snares. Have mercy.
Usually I'm the guy that doesn't hear any difference between copies and originals but this was absolutely shocking! 😮
Yeah a lot of the individual sounds are pretty close but then you put it all together at 5:23 and the sum is just so different
Hey Justin thanks so much for this video! I'm trying to figure out how to convert my own samples into hex/bin info to load into the dx eproms, any thoughts?
There's utilities on the electrongate site - I've used DMXWAV successfully - www.electrongate.com/software/index.html
this offbeat placement of the 303 is great :D :D good old times :D nice tune
Bad ass beats 🎧

The LinnDrum snare sound isn't right. It's the same as the LM-1.
Conwaylife my beloved
sick!
Did you have any trouble getting the Squarp working with the DR 660?
No - the Squarp is just sending midi clock to the DR-660 and it syncs fine. All the drum sequencing was done on the DR-660 itself.
@@juztinmullinzsounds great. I just got the pyramid and was hoping there wasn’t anything wrong-turned out the MIDI Vol receiving was set to 0 on the 660. Didn’t see the pyramid in your newest video, do you still use it?
@@billthompson2183 yes Pyramid is my main sequencer currently - didn't need it for that latest video as it was just a jam using internal sequencers. I'll usually use the internal sequencer on a machine if possible (like the 660 in this case). Still searching for that perfect hardware sequencer!
The colors, the unknown of the technological future, the beats, everything in one video, this is a masterpiece, I felt like I was in the early days of computing, Incredible!
Top Track and Mix / I like the sound of the Alesis 3630. What did you mix through?
Mackie 1220i for tracking then C4 and Ozone across the main bus ITB for a bit of a master

Incredible song.

Love that!
Thankyou! It doesn't fit neatly into a genre but I have plenty more like it for you to check out. I captured all the computer graphics by tracking down old cd-rom images and running them in emulators. The TV spot and intel ads i just ripped and edited.
This is a gem
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Lovely! Drum machine is banging, is it Oberheim DX?
Yeah it is - nicely spotted!

thank you kind sir :)
This is catchy
Hey thanks!
the effect with the ascii is mesmerizing
ascii art just never gets old for me
Very timely and clever Kraftwerk tribute here, and the visuals are awesome, really great use of PhotoMosh. What's the basis for the singing head image, if you don't mind spilling the beans? I can't make out if it's actual video or something else.
Thanks for the kind words! For the head I generated a 'cyborg' head using meta AI in Whatsapp. I then fed that image into the aniportrait gradio demo with each line for the lipsyncing. Aniportrait was not very tolerant of non-realistic faces so I had to use a head that was pretty human looking.
@@juztinmullinz Very interesting process, and very impressive results! I might have to play around with something like this for my Twitch stream. Would be a pretty killer effect for follow alerts and such. I'll be sure to give you a nod if I do. Thanks for sharing!

Very cool.
Thanks for checking it out Kris!
This is so different, has Gary Numan 80's Fairlight CMI type sound too, very cool, also sounds like a bit of a parody on everyone using ai style computers to make music and interact nowadays, so thought it was dope amigo 🤟🔥❤
Spot on! It's funny how this type of music was once seen as the height of robotic and mechanical, but now it's almost as real as you get - every note is deliberate and it's all actual instruments. Compare that to today, where you can just prompt an AI and get an Ed Sheeran song!
@@juztinmullinz Yeah but their music sounds like it came out of a vending machine hahaa, I can tell what's real and has character, soul. And I prefer the process of writing my own music too instead of ordering it from just eat hahaa 🤟
Thank you!
Thanks Justin some top notch stuff.....
thanks for checking it out Ian!
Of course any original legendary machine that was made in the 80's will be hard to compare against anything fresh nowadays thats cheaper... But as a former Roland TR-909 owner, the pots will crackle and actual tune will deviate. Nowadays the aging TR-808 is being sold between 8-10 k which is just stupid. A New RD-8 retails @ £249 I am not asking for some old wise mans comments, but even a purist will see sense. Either way, keep producing. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The RD is a lot of analogue for your buck that's for sure
nice setup!

Yes and we doubled the budget of the last MidiBot video for this one
if both were designed at the same time, nowadays the tr would be more expensive. Has midi, etc, game over.

Superb track! Love how the chord ties things together.
Thanks! Chords are JX-3P - one of the first elements I had in the track
@@juztinmullinz Nice to know - that's an awesome synth.
hello:) where can I get the same set of sounds for my oberheim dx?
I’m also a Behringer user and for the money you pay you’ll get more than enough, probably the best clone out there including the new Roland digital recitations. However, I’ve upgraded myself from rd6 to tr 606, from ms1 to the sh 101, from td 3 to x0xb0x, and I’m currently waiting for a yocto to replace my rd8 mk2. I must say that the Behringer sounds great, but they’re lacking something musical. I can spend hours with the 101 every position is mind blowing, such an inspiring peace of gear, can’t say the same about the ms1, though it can reach almost the same sounds, it’s the little things that Behringer didn’t put their effort on, and it all sums up. Like here each voice is almost the same but when you hear it all together you’ll immediately notice the difference.
This is spot on! The clone never quite satisfies that itch for me either. In my case however I thought the TD-3 was an upgrade from the x0xb0x. Of course I'm on the hunt for a real TB-303 now! I was pretty happy with the RD-8 but the one track I made with it can't really sit alongside any done with the TR-808.
@@juztinmullinz I’ve never had a real 303 to compare with. My x0xb0x sound is really good to my ear, with all the corrections I wanted from the Behringer, the attacks, the square wave sound, and the envelope shape. I’m not so happy withe the sequencer which is quite annoying, and the random option is not doing it for me, I miss the original flow that Behinger wisely mimicked, not sure why they haven’t done the same thing with the ms1
sehr, sehr geil! 👍
It’s almost 2025 and they still can’t nail it 🙄
I wanted to say you’re getting in to Prince territory and you said it at that moment. Pretty funny that musicians ear saves all the sound in the synth brain. Good demo
I own the RD-8 MkII. It's supposed to have better quality sounds. I think it's perfect. You should have tuned the sounds the same, by the way.
Where possible I have tuned the sounds the same but you'll notice most sounds like the Snare, Rim, HandClap, CowBell, Cymbal and Hats don't have a tune knob
Great video Justin. I used to own both the Linndrum & drumtracks. The Linn broke down after years of using & I got the drumtracks as a replacement. It was great. Used the digidrums rock kit mostly in it. Was an excellent machine 👍
