    I am 42 years old and over the course of adulthood I have developed two lasting healthy habits. 1) eating a dense/varied salad for lunch 5x per week and 2) 1 hour resistance training 3x a week. As you mentioned, it took longer than 60 days to develop these habits. I cant exactly say when they finally stuck, but there were fits and starts that lasted several years. I would say it was probably 3 years before I got to the point where my subjective experience of these habits was similar to a "bad" habit, i.e. didnt really notice the benefits during the execution of the habit, but definitely got irritable/frustrated/thrown off if anything prevented me from executing. Now I relate to salad and the gym like a smoker relates to tobacco lol. Its so ingrained I dont even think about it, but god help you if you come between me and my fix :)

    Hey man, great video. I like what you said about knowing when something becomes a 'habit', not so much the guilt of not doing it that day, but more like 'bu**er, forgot to do that, how can I do that NOW' as opposed to later or the next day. When the habit becomes automatic. Looking forward to following your videos throughout the year.

      Start with a goal in mind and then break it into something smaller that you can achieve. For example, if you set the goal of completing a 10K run, you might start by committing to 20 minutes of cardio a day and then gradually increase the duration over time. The trick is to be specific and consistent about what you will achieve each day. Good habits, like bad ones, are all down to repetition.

    Currently don`t drive so its a 10 minute walk to the office 4 times a day, 2 mile walk every weekday evening plus a 4 hour walk every weekend (during bad weather I'll try and get out even if its just an hour or so). Just picked up a rower so its 15 mins in the morning plus a bit of stretching etc - all adds up quickly .

    I’ve been extending my long runs and building my weekly mileage up slowly this year as I train for a 50k trail run in October. Yesterday I ran 40k of the course, the longest I’ve ever run. The last 5k was tough! My couch to 50k in a year goal keeps me going, but by the sounds of it I need to pick some new goal races for afterwards or I might fall off the running-wagon if I’m not careful.

    • @midlifefitnessjourney

    Great video, thanks. I've only just recovered, abysmal conditions. I managed a 30 min PB just under 3:29 probably only because I was so cold I thought I'd die 🤣 if I slowed or stopped to walk. So many people in a bad way at the finish - my brain had gone and my hands stopped working at 20 miles and I couldn't get gels from my pocket anymore. I'd decided to run in my wind/waterproof jacket, but if it helped any I didn't notice. Then the "bag drop" left the bags on the ground, not under cover, in the car park in the heavy rain for an hour or so so no dry clothes as water had got inside the plastic bag 🤦🏼‍♂. I finally stopped shivering about 3 hours later. Fun though...

    As a fellow marathon finisher, I can confirm how awful the weather was. I too (stupidly) ran with no wet weather gear, and by half way I had lost all feeling in my fingers ! But the waterlogged/flooded roads was the icing on the cake !!!

  • @barryleslie7727
    @barryleslie7727 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I totally agree with everything you said in this video. It was my first official marathon as up until this year I’ve never run anything more than 22 miles. In preparing for this race I actually ran the marathon distance twice and the time I got in this one was three hours and 31 minutes which fell halfway between my fastest and slowest Runs in practice. The weather was horrendous and I along with other people seem to miss our targets by about 15 minutes. It was a huge factor and I had the crushing feeling that my target wasn’t going to be met and it was a 9:55 swallow to know that what I had to do was try and finish in the best time that I could. I was happy to survive but the mind games that go on when the weather is like this, are awful. That said it’s not gonna put me off from running another marathon and I’m even doing an ultra trail run in four weeks time 🤣

    Cheers for the video and providing video evidence (for my wife) to the amount of water on the course. I 'only' did the half with my daughter, and it's definitely one that'll be talked about for a long time. Incidently, I did it last year, and the conditions were absolutely perfect.

    Was my first marathon 3:50:56. Weather was horrendous nightmare. I suffer from Raynards with cold & circulation in the cold. I struggled from around mile 24 but just hung on to finish, my hands even with mittens were too cold to get my gels out of my belt after 2& half hours so missed my 3hour gel and the next one. Was in medical centre over an hour at finish. Thanks for the video 🎉
