    Why do the customers buy from someone else within the same company ? that is unethical behavior on both sides.

    • @WeTheSalesEngineers
      @WeTheSalesEngineers 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      When you have a global company, you may have sales teams in different locations supporting customers in different locations. So I can be working with my customer site in Canada, and someone from my organization is working with someone from the same customer in Europe, for example. This part is normal. But when the salesperson in Europe undercuts what the pricing your salesperson provided, why would the customer want to buy from you?

    "Sales person should never leave an enterprise customer" - what are the pros & cons ?

    • @WeTheSalesEngineers
      @WeTheSalesEngineers 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      For enterprise level customers, the pros are that as a sales team you get to build a relationship with the customer and understand them deeply, and therefore offer solutions that will make them successful. Your success is tied to theirs. So you cannot just sell something that may not work, and then dump the work on the post sales team and still get rewarded for it. The cons are if the business dries up from that enterprise customer, and all your eggs are in that basket, you might have a tough year.

    In the work of SE, I often had a misunderstanding from technicians, they did not understand why we have second "Sales manager" at project team. I usually answered that I was in this project so that you could spend less time chatting and concentrate on the technical solution

    • @WeTheSalesEngineers
      @WeTheSalesEngineers 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm not sure how I feel about this statement. 1- Yes, I agree. Many SEs think they can do a salesperson's job better than the sales person. 2- SEs are much more than technicians. 3- Part of an SE's job is to chat with customers. That how we get to understand what the technical solution should be. 4- The salesperson offloads the SEs when it comes to negotiation, closing deals and finding new ones. Most SEs don't want to do that.

    What is a great starting point regarding SE? What work experience cooresponds to SE roles the best? Is a university degree be needed? Is ''technical sales manager'' the same as SE? Or what would setup a new SE with the best foundations?

    • @WeTheSalesEngineers
      @WeTheSalesEngineers 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Support, Professional Services, Customer success are good roles. University degrees are needed for some SE roles, especially in networking and security, but it's not impossible to get a job otherwise. You might need certifications. Technical Sales Manager is a salesperson. Best foundation for SEs is the technical skills and you can build some human skills on top of that.

    Great insights! I liked the tidbit about Sales vs Sales Engineers. But i do hope you can talk about more distinctions about Sales vs Solutions Architects vs Sales engineers in the presales process fitting in the sales cycle. More often than not people throw around the word POC so early on in the conversation that it de-values the benefits of the product for the procuring entity to simply solving a singular problem only to having the product stagnate after it solves said problem. Companies and people still cant make or draw the line of distinction and scope of responsibilities between these roles and the benefits they bring especially in the low-code software industry. One role focuses on solving a singular problem, the other changes the way we can go about things with the right tools in the Arsenal, and the other is focused on sourcing opportunities. Sales engineers imo aren’t just the technical resource the AE drags around to meetings, and does demos, and answers questions. They are bridges that work with Sol Architects, Sales and customers to design a tailor fit solution.

    We have a complete insight team other than the SE team and there are a lot of clashes between the two teams. the SE team engages in all opportunities where as the insight team comes in when the costumer don’t make a decision and the AE wants to give the opportunity one last push to convince the customer. This is what is supposed to happen but some AE’s engage both teams at the same time and that’s when it gets messy

    You made great points. I believe some people can use certain career paths as launching pads. Tony Moze for example creates great podcast. He is very entertaining and well spoken. Those traits would make a great SE, however with skills like that he is destined for more. Cyrus Harbin as well, he became a SE, and that skyrocketed him to creating something so big. I hate that tech layoffs are happening and jobs are raising the bar for individuals to become SE’s who may not have a technical background but took a tech boot camp. Keep it up with the videos, because even yourself have a higher calling then just Sales Engineering.

    Thanks for the shoutout! 😃 My credentials: 1.) BA & MA in Psychology 2.) Former Military 3.) Held previous industry experience in healthcare and research 4.) Certificate from a Software Engineering Bootcamp 5.) Been in Presales for about 1 year (time mainly academy) 6.) 2 x Years of SDR/BDR in tech 📋✍🏽 I wanted to be in Presales because that was the first role that reached out to me when I first made it into tech. But as I reflect, does Presales make sense for me? 🤔 I don’t know, thanks to lay off, I never had a chance to spread my wings, but I also noticed that we all have cognitive biases, and my one bias was thinking that being an SE is the only route to go, when that is a lie. ❌ Many people today are getting blinded by the marketing and posts by people saying SE is the best job in the world, thanks to LinkedIn and even TikTok. At the end of the day a job is a job. People need to reflect hard on the WHY behind why they want to go into a specific role 📌

A co-worker who was laid off as well had over 20 years with the company. We each got the equivalent of 1 month pay and was told by HR to be glad you got that since the company isn't required to give any severance. Having personal savings is KEY!

    Just getting into SE and im loving this field. As a person with general IT background ( I studied ICT & Business for a bachelor), I always found myself interested the technology but never in programming. When you say you focused loads on understanding the technology, does that translate to building applications and raw programming, or the general understanding for the tech itself and its possibilities? many thanks!

    • @WeTheSalesEngineers
      @WeTheSalesEngineers 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most SE jobs don't translate into building applications. The SE has the application that they would like to sell, and they show the customer how it works. Now some SEs have to customize the application, so some programming and API knowledge is helpful. As for understanding the tech itself, it is dependent on the org. For example if you're selling firewalls, you don't need to know how to build a firewall, but you need to know how a firewall operates, the tech it uses (SSL, ACLs, etc) and the value it brings to the customer. Connect with me on Linkedin if you'd like some additional help as you get into Sales Engineering

    I’ll say, unfortunately, that most (not all) SDRs are very GREEN, and it’s a challenge for them to really see the depths of things. I agree it’s NOT the role of SDRs, but it takes an SDR who is not so green to be able to give those subtle or quick “jabs” of information, which helps do a lot of things: 1.) Filter who is a fit 2.) Speaks of the underlying value proposition As far as John, I believe the idea that AI/Bots will be doing a better job, but like a recent Tom Bilyeu podcast with an AI leader he said that, to paraphrase, that AI will not put people out of jobs, but those who use AI will put others who do NOT use AI out of jobs. If SDRs know how to leverage AI, then they’ll be successful, but then the next thing to ask is, will they be still considered SDRs or something else? Take someone who now has Presales AND BDR experience. What is he considered now? An UBER SDR? A Presales SDR? A Presales Advisor? 🤔 What do we call him or her now? 💡
