Is the Icom ID-50 Impact Rated?
During the Huntsville Hamfest I had a little incident. My parachute mobile radio bag decided it wanted to go for a solo skydive. In the bag was my:

The bag was recovered. Almost all the content survived. I now have an Icom ID-50 that has been impact rated tested in an extreme environment.

They say that when tuning an antenna you should check it out in the location you plan to use it. There are a lot of how to cut an efhw wire videos online, but none of them have been done at terminal velocity
That's why I tune them with two forty foot masts. That is as close as I can get to putting them up very high.
@@LifeAtTerminalVelocity they say there is no such thing as an antenna in free space. I don’t know how much conductive material there is in your parachute gear, but you’re pretty close to an antenna in free space I imagine

I went skydiving. Once. 1998. For the life of me I cannot figure out why anyone would do this twice.
Oh that's easy - because you know that gravity needs to be tested or it quits working.
I know the anxiety when I can't find my phone or keys in the house. I can't imagine watching my phone fall from the sky. I'm glad it all worked out for you.

Well this video does have the 40 and 20 part already done.
Don’t cut it for 40 until you have have the coil with ~10-12wraps
My steps for tuning were something like wrap 11 turns around the coil about 6ft from the transformer. Then trim/fold back as you normally would tuning to make it resonant on 40 meters. I’ve you have it resonant on 40, then add remove a turn or two to adjust where it resonates on the higher bands 10 and 15 the coil even has a small effect on 20m resonant
@3:28 is that your radio bag? KM4ACK said you had an ID-50 and a phone inside, and that only the ID-50 survived.
Different jump than this one but yea, my ID-50 is impact rated verified. A video will come out in about a month with more details. Stay tuned.

I don't think it has enough horsepower to drive the web interface but the only way to know is for you to do it and find out.
Not as geeky, but probably easier and cheaper to get a quieter fan.🤓
A quieter fan would be on all the time. This lets the fan only run when needed. There is a difference.
@@LifeAtTerminalVelocity My understanding of the issue was the fan is loud and thus you don't want it running all the time (th-cam.com/video/Ru5yA4VeJe0/w-d-xo.html). I would have better understood your approach had you stated that the goal was for any fan not to run all the time.
Naw your settings don't work for me. You need to slow down and wait for people to catch up.
TH-cam has controls towards the bottom of the video window. One of them is a pause button. You can also drink more coffee.
used your settings and the vertical db bar does not light up green and only has a 2 db, how do i correct this KC3WLS

This video worked great for me. I'm picking up planes 70+ miles around me, which probably isn't great, but since my place is backed up against a forest with low LOS I'd say its pretty good.

The work piece is moving too much, each turn of each flute causes small bounces. The drill press is the place for it. It is funny, the fame rate and rotation speed make it look like the drill was turning backwards....
I was holding it in the hopes that I was keeping that from happening. I guess it could have been worse.
